when you look at so many great guitarists paying tribute to Dime but none of them are even close to pulling the solos off like Dime did,it makes you realize how truly amazing Dimebag was as a musician.
LaBrie has the voice of an angel, with that being said, his voice is not right for a Pantera tune, it needs to be rough and heavy, Russel should've sang the entire song if you ask me.
Mustaine absolutely butchered the hell out of that solo LMFAO. Goes to show how talented Dime truly was if people like Mustaine and Zack Wylde and other well known guitarists struggle to play his leads lol. Not even saying Dime had super technical/fast leads, while he did have some aspects of those styles he just channeled emotion through his instrument unlike many other musicians out there are able to. About to be 12 years since he was taken from us, still hard to believe he's gone nevermind been gone that long. Rest well my friend and thanks for your music and the impact you had on me growing up.
+Gnome Child I agree... However this was shortly after the whole injury issue... of course he was not in total shape back then... so kudos to Dave! I think it is an awesome cover
Mustain played his style, doesn't mean it was bad. Dime was great but Dave's reached a point where he can improvise and nobody's angry from the audience. Everyone says he's arrogant but he backs it up with his guitaring ability. And where are other big names? Dave's here to pay tribute to a great guitar player, that says something about his character too... Rip dime.
You do know that Dave had serious health issues after an accident which messed up his wrists the fact he still plays is a miracle, back in the 80's and 90's he could play great but now he still gives it his all it's not his fault old age and injury make him not as great he's still fucking amazing for what he does
alexilaiho1st What?.. First, I'm not talking about this particular performance, but in general about the two of them.. They're my two favorite singers, but James is definitely better in my OPINION.. And that's what it's all about in the end of the day.. I can't be "objective" because there's no such a thing.. We are all subjective individuals, and there's nothing to do about it.. And second, in this particular video I can't hear those "many" wrong notes in JLB.. I have seen them both live, and I can tell you that Mr Russell might sound very well in studio, but he's far away from that live.. JLB, instead, does sing almost as good as in studio.. Anyway, I repeat: they're both great singers.. ;)
Damn it, John, if you're doing a tribute to someone, you don't fuck with the song and try to make it your own. Play it the way it was played by the man you're supposedly honoring. Or at least try. No one sounds like Dime.
Tool APC First of all Dave was probably asked to help with the tribute and he would have said "what key is it in?" And then just hit the notes in the general area. He didn't sit down and learn it note for note. That wasn't the intention. It was to show love for Dime. It was an awesome tribute by metal musicians man. Peeps are looking too deep into it.
Not sure if I agree... I love Dave, but that solo really wasn’t anything good. But respect to Dave for doing it anyway, because it was still pretty soon after his nerve accident
Why does youtube always have music elitists with superior complexes? Dave Mustaine is a great player, not as technically proficient as John, but still great.
all the virtuoso petrucci is.... The tone is no scooped enough,,, harmonics don't squeal enough...solo tone cant come close to dime.... because DIME is DIME
I was really high when I first seen this .. I was really hoping dave would shred the fuck out of that solo but when I first saw , I was tripping the fuck out ! I was wondering "what the fuck!?" "is dave doing that on purpose??!!!!" lmao ..im pretty sure he was just fuckin doing that fuck man .. I was laughing ass off but I was also like come on man!
The best part of this is from 0:58 thru 1:36. The use of keyboards on the intro was nice too. For some reason it seemed more sad that way with keyboards now that Dime's gone. The rest of this song is pretty much butchered to shit, vocal timing off, and out of key, and sucked balls. I love Mustaine, but he just fucked this over. I give an "A" for effort, but this lot of precision tuned musicians SHOULD have fucking nailed this tribute, not murder it.
Do you mean in this particular video? Because Mustaine came to play the actual solo of Cemetery Gates, while Petrucci played all other lead guitar parts. By the way, Mustaine butchered the solo really bad..
I generally prefer Russell Allen as a singer but I would have to say this was not his best performance and note that James stepped aside at one point as he attempted to harmonize to no avail. Who knows, maybe Rus was on something or had one too many drinks..and WTF was that Mustaine, ?? love you man but, DT were the consummate professionals here.
Between Dave Mustaine fucking up the second part of the solo and that embarrassing vocal/guitar part at the outro, they really shit the bed on this song!
Personally, I don't think Dace's solo's on a whole are very good and Dave knows it- on every Megadeth album there's always someone else on Lead Guitar. It may be a tribute but Dave is actually playing the solo wrong, which poses the question does he even know how to play it? This in itself could be deemed disrespectful to Dime, I don't think so, Dave has good intentions but just can't play the solo. John Petrucci should have played lead and have Dave rhythm- that's just common sense lol.
I'd rather not see him there, considering how he massacred the solo. There are tons, and tons of guitarists in the world that are more than capable to do Dimebags solo justice. Mustaine is not one of 'em.
Watched the whole song to hear the harmonic pulls and dives at the songs end and the damn keyboard guy does it? jipped! If anyone could do it, Petrucci could.
Even though he's one of the best living vocalist out there, James LaBrie sucks hard when he's singing something so far from his usual style. Anselmo's vocals had a perfect "harsh/mellow" balance for this particular song, here LaBrie makes a good performance but completely out of place imho. Bell otherwise is a weaker vocalist, but more in sync with this tune.
You have the choice between choosing petrucci and mustaine to play the solo. Who do you pick? JK, mustaine just probably was slightly blacked out and he didn’t coordinate between right and left. Happens when you don’t play a lot, or when you play too much.
I think it's a good solo idea, but he didn't play it well, just a quick jam in the style of Dave maybe if he would have played it more times it would sound better
what is this? much respect to the music, but not anything progressive.....4/4 time just slower or faster tempo......DT must have been bored, but with respect to whoever passed on.....but its just like what? for dream theater
I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say, but an odd time signature means jack-all... Sure, interesting things can be had by experimenting with different time signatures, but that takes nothing away from the enormous talents like dime, that stay mainly in 4/4. What matters here is all the members paying their respects to a fallen guitar god. Even if they did butcher his solo beyond recognition... ;)
you guys spend so much time fighting over who is the best guitarist, and the truth is much simpler. Both are a show and each one has cast his career and has earned what he deserves: D (including the fanboys)
You can say whatever you want, amigo. So can I. :) Don't criticize if you can't do better. (And don't criticize if you don't even know how to spell. Lol.)
why people Keep trolling Dave's solo here ? did'nt you recognize that Megadeth and Pantera has different approach in trashing ? especially in the guitar part.. both MUSTAINE and DIMEBAG were GREAT but different styles right ? but overall MEGADETH still the BEST, i must say DIMEBAG his the BEST GUITARIST !
After reading all the comments about how bad the solo was, I was expecting the worst. Not really that bad. I wonder how much of the sound is just recording quality, and, even then, it's only somewhat suboptimal at worst.
@MultiMoon5 You've got a good point. It's unusual to come across people who can construct a grammatically correct sentence these days on this site, so I suppose I will have to give them some credit for that.
@MultiMoon5 I actually had some hopes that people would've matured a bit, but after all this is a movie with Mustaine so I suppose it was just wishful-thinking
Did I see YOU standing on that stage? NOPE! Dave's got more power and talent in a single hair on his pinkie knuckle than you do within your entire existence. Hate on Dave all ya want. He knows who you are. :D
well, i admit, petrucci is great, and i also love him, but consider the fact that dave had an accident concerning his neurons on his left arm back in 2002, and that his left arm had to learn how to play guitar from thrash.
YOWCH. Need some water for that one. :) Dave can play solos, but only of his own creation. I STILL respect him for "attempting" this solo, if that's what you wanna call it. Fellow musician... there were a lot of ones that turned down the gig. At least he was fuckin' there. :)
