r/Maliciouscompliance In today's episode, OP is a sound technician at a recording studio. He has a rather interesting interaction with a expert producer who wants him to complete a rush order. The situation is a little fishy, but OP is a professional so he does his best to make his client happy. A few days later, the hotshot millionaire who was bankrolling the production shows up, and then it becomes clear how OP helped to destroy a millionaire's business.

You make a good point about the "white shirt" policy. What I also don't get is that usually restaurant workers 15 and under are usually given the dirty cleaning jobs, wouldn't their uniforms get stained more easily? I'd think you'd want to give them navy or black shirts instead.

Oh gods it was the same thing with the senior year shirts in my highschool, the material was nice, but we were able to do stuff like Construction and Art and stuff like that, Hospitality had it's own uniforms, that I love, but the white normal shirts were so easy to stain with a big black patch when it was raining, went through two shirts and it was _still_ stained when I graduated, F'ing MINT. Hell, it was shirts like that which annoyed the hell out of one of my friends, as you'd be able to see her bra any time it rained. Every other year before had blue and navy blue shirts.

i find the shirt thing so odd because i work at a mcdonalds in europe and here we all have the same uniform except the managers. we wear white long sleeved button down shirts tucked into dress pants(ngl makes me feel pretty classy) and the managers have short sleeved striped button down shirts. still have the same sheerness problem tho. as a guy it doesn't really affect me all that much but you can see all the female employees' bras under their shirts. it's not extremely noticable most of the time but after a while when it gets worn down from washing it's literally like they're wearing a see-through blouse. luckily our managers aren't dickwads and give the girls a new shirt whenever one of them comes out of the locker room panickingly holding her boobs

My late grandma started having issues with her router. The company kept trying to sell her a new router like 4 times within 6months. She would politely argue with them until they agreed to not charge her for the new box. I was outside (i was living with her at that point) one time when one of the workers came out and mentioned starting up a new feature she didn't ask for and I was like ur not charging her for that are u? They were of course. So I went and got her. She was in the house. It was a beautiful thing watching the exchange happen irl. She never raised her voice. She didn't curse. But she had this ability to talk and talk and talk. It was a running joke in the family that when u spoke to her on the phone she would restart the conversation like 3-4 times. In the end she didn't have to pay for the new feature. I miss that lady.

As someone who was once a 15 year old girl- There's a lot that I ignored and didn't speak up about until years later because talking about it just got you treated worse. My full-grown adult married male boss who had a daughter my age telling me I had the perfect mouth for blowjobs? I avoided responding and he cut my shifts. We also weren't allowed to dye our hair. And we had to have it in a ponytail. (Being fair we dealt with food, but if we had hair short enough that it didn't touch the collar of our shirts, we didn't even have to wear a hairnet which was what was most confusing.) He took us to a club for our work Christmas. When the youngest employees were 14 years old. I got hit on by customers all the time. I've also worked at a place where you were only allowed to wear neutral colours and the company provided shirt for your first shift (Since it took place at the same time as you completed the final interview so they prepared one in case you were wearing too many colours) Was fully see-through. So I spent my first paycheque from that company on an undershirt. And that was when I was 21. So. As a 15 year old girl? A see-through shirt? I would have gotten a proper undershirt and moved on, because by 15 I already knew that they could do whatever they wanted to me. Not only because I was 15 but because I was a girl.
@1wolsk

R/Slash is sweet, but still a little naive. I'm pretty sure the company was fully aware of how see through those shirts were. I once worked at a family-friendly theme park where all the employees wore conservative clothes... with one exception. The sweepers were all cute, very young looking women in childish, short, jumper-overalls that were thin enough that you could see any darker underclothing underneath. It was an open secret that some big-wig creep in the company had a thing for it, so when he was coming on-site, they'd try to get more sweeper girls working in the uniforms.

It’s all bs tho. He states that he wouldn’t mix on an analogue mixing board because it would be too time consuming to set up. That’s a damn lie. If you’re working on analog equipment you make sure to use a track sheet and take note of everything you’ve done, and no one and I mean no one with an analogue mixing board will tell you they’d rather do it on a computer because it saves time because that’s not the and analogue mixing boards produce and extremely higher quality mix. This guy was more than likely an intern that bullshited his way Thru school and somehow got an internship and got yelled at for being stupid and twisted the story in his favor
@andersonwonder9357
@andersonwonder9357 2 года назад
@@bostonrailfan2427 not an impossible task at all, mainly because you can save mixing board stated nowadays, the wires don’t get moved around unless you disconnected something or need to route certain channels for sound design but even then when working on analog equipment you’d take notes and keep a track sheet of everything you’ve done so you can get back to the same state quickly going back between projects. I know such because I’m an audio engineer and the biggest thing that gives it away is that in today’s time most engineers know how to mix and master equally as proficient because you go to school to learn how to mix and master if you’re going to be an engineer, only knowing how to do either one will make it impossible for you to get hired or even get an opportunity for an internship

Yeah, I usually don't watch while I listen but noticed it this time. It completely misrepresents OP's character. It made me a bit disappointed as what else could r/Slash be changing up to make the story "better"? He also did that when in his conclusion he said the Producer did it on purpose. I didn't get that from the story. I think the Producer just did exactly what the Executive Producer said, to maliciously comply. I don't think the Producer purposely sabotaged the project. First story: I don't think the producer wanted to use the analog machine at all. I'm guessing, since it "looks" cooler and is what everyone sees in videos the executive producer insisted on it. He wanted the image, not the actual quality. The producer had probably warned him, hence the "I told you" but let the EP have his way.
@andersonwonder9357
@andersonwonder9357 2 года назад
Actually that’s the biggest red flag that op was full of shit. MOST audio engineers prefer to mix on analog equipment because the sound quality achieved is much higher, secondly mixing boards come with save states meaning all you have to do is push a button and you can revert to previous saved states. Honestly if anything it’s a must to mix on analog equipment if it’s there, no way in hell that story is true. An actual audio engineer
@anotsomysticalnight7040
@anotsomysticalnight7040 2 года назад
@@andersonwonder9357 Actually, clearly the analog method is more time consuming, as OP explained. However, the executive producer wanted 10 songs in 8 hours, and to set up a song in 2 hours, which are both impossible under these time constraints. These result in songs or poorer quality compared to computer, and thus makes him look bad to the investors since he wanted music made fast. Speed over quality. Their integrity as an audio engineer is immaterial in this context. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The shirt rule actually makes a ton of sense to me as there are often legal restrictions on what employees under 16 can do and having a quick visual reference could prevent them from getting into serious trouble and major fines (by having a fifteen year old working with knives when they need someone to do something in a pinch for example). But I got my first job at 14, presenting as a girl. I'd had surgery on my SPINE 3 months before starting work. The full recovery time was 1 year. I asked to have 1 weekend day off to rest; no school, no work, just homework and recovery time. Working after school 4 days a week AND 8hrs both weekend days was causing me pain, mental breakdowns, and making my school performance drop drastically; which I brought up to the manager. I also brought up how I got horrible period cramps that give me cold sweats, shaky hands, a headache, make me unable to focus, nauseous, and caused horrible hip pains. I asked for more bathroom breaks and a stool to sit on behind the register- both for my spine and hips. For 1 week a month. I was told "Absolutely not, we're too short staffed, you'll have to deal with it." I was basically forced to quit a few weeks later. My body and mind literally could not handle that job. I was with the same cellphone provider for nearly 10 years, and I decided to switch to another plan (same company) I ask SPECIFICALLY over the phone whether 1)I'd get the introduction rate (it was only a 30 dollar difference over the entire year, so not huge) and 2) Whether they had my credit card details and that it'd switch over immediately. Day of the switch comes, I had to give up a week if paid credit due to the introductory offer expiry date and lo and behold, they switched my plan, but it was unpaid due to them NOT having my cc details. I couldn't even call them because my phone service had been cut. I had to make a special trip to their store and pay there, and they told me I wouldn't get the intro rate. I switched another service at the next opportunity. My only regret is that I didn't cancel the plan then and there, and that I gave their customer service a good rating because I thought they had handled it. Something not mentioned in the first story by OP is the fact that working with analog gear also requires summing - literally re-recording all of your tracks with the edits on them into a separate file. You have to wait the entire duration of the song (or however much time you want those edits to take up) every time you mix. Source: studying to be an audio engineer!

I worked in customer care at a telecom company. Any time a customer would ask about doing something that would technically go against our policy, but couldn't really be enforced, I would just say "well, I can't say you can or can't do that, but if you did, we wouldn't be able to stop you". I'd say it in a voice that would basically sound like I'm winking. I'd then laugh.

About the see through shirt story. As a person assigned female at birth, this is a common experience. Most white shirts given to me for uniforms in the past were completely see through after a few washes. One job I had in a grocery store deli had white button up shirts, but they became see through everytime they got a little wet. If we had to wash the equipment in the back, we weren't given water proof aprons, so our shirts would just be see through. Most women just wear tank tops underneath most uniform shirts because they tend to be cheaply made and revealing. I've never considered this guy's response, and now I really wish I had.

With the service provider story, I used to work at one. We literally could not change the price and always told the customer that if they are willing to cancel to reconnect, that isn't the process and makes us look bad in the eyes of the law as it's unethical. Which is true. And yes if a call went longer than say 20 mins, it would be a concern but we can't just alter prices because somebody is petty. It would lead them nowhere but a hang up.

I used to work at a donut/coffee place that had cheap button up shirts. I am not flat chested or very slim and those shirts never fit comfortably or stayed buttoned. I can't tell you how many times customers in the drive through would either be staring, or mention that the buttons over my chest were undone and sure enough, look down and there's my bra and breast poking out to see what's going on. Tried an undershirt a few times but those button ups were stiff and didn't breath. It was nice when they finally switched to a looser, decent polo.

I am a live sound engineer (39yr, 15 yrs in the buizz) and I had many "producers" come up to me saying "make it sound like the record". To which I only can reply: "Then make them sound like they did on the record". I can amplify their sound, not make it better. You get what the band sounds like, just louder. I can make small changes and adjust volumes, but if the guitar is louder than the rest of the band, then you will hear guitar with a little bit of band. I can not change the laws of physics...

For the email issue here is an alternative that will actually hurt them worse than the 10-minute mail thing. Create a google account for the spam and only use that for your customer. Go into the email and report everything as spam. I worked as a marketing solution specialist for a while and learned that any marketing team getting their server marked as spam hurts them so much more because it is so hard to recover from that.

LMFAO!! First story. I was down in Florida at Kingsnake Records and this goofball know it all starts berating us for “putting the amp in the stupidest places” and “we were just playing games to spend more of his clients money”. When the dude actually heard the difference between the sound of the guitar amp that was sitting on the floor in the studio vs. having it pointing up into the stairwell and hitting some sound foam, he turns to the idiot that was supposedly the “Executive Producer” and says, “If you want any EP credit on this project, you better come up with a whole lotta money. You don’t know sh*t about sound production and I’m NOT buying you a reputation that says you do.” That was awesome!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Regarding broadband. I used to work with broadband companies, and the "I'm going to leave" is the most tiresome thing to hear, usually it only works now if the company is doing a huge push to get up sales. But from observations, the best way to get a good deal is to call up and ask, politely, for information on how to leave the company, how much notice etc. They have to give you this and then they HAVE to ask you why you are leaving. Simply say " oh, I spoke to such and such company in one of their popups, and they explained to me that I can't renew and get a good deal and they offered me such and such a deal." It always goes the same way, a moment of silence and then the rep will get annoyed and defensive of the product. Threatening to leave makes them annoyed at you, saying this line, makes them annoyed at their rivals. Now you just need to wait for them to find a good deal and offer you some extras. Works EVERY time.

Actually for the McD shirt story, if it actually IS company policy the manager should have arranged for a 15 year old girl to wear the not so good shits. Any lawsuit would then be directed at the corporate overlords and take them down a small peg.
