r/Maliciouscompliance Why is it that bosses everywhere are so incredibly stupid? In today's episode, OP gets fired from her job as a teacher because she wasn't wearing a uniform, even though she's not required to wear a uniform. OP just shrugs and moved on with her life because they were making her work for free anyway. The next day, OP's boss calls her back wondering why she isn't at work. "You fired me, remember? Be careful what you wish for!"
👌 r/Maliciouscompliance Mom: "DON'T DISCIPLINE MY CHILD!" Babysitter: "lol ok" • r/Maliciouscompliance ...

The mother in law story....why were people listening to the MIL rather than the actual mother? I mean if someone I know said they were having a boy and their MIL kept saying no, it's a girl, I know it's going to be a girl....and the mother kept saying no, that's not true....pretty sure I'm gonna believe the person actually giving birth
@geraldgrenier8132
@geraldgrenier8132 3 года назад
Because they elders on MIL side of the family, aka people who have a long relationship with MIL and nearly know the mother, and many have only once hear the gender from the mother, but hear the gender multiple times from MIL (repeat a liemorten enough and people will belive the lie)
@RiveroftheWither

I can only assume this family is very "traditional" and believe in a lot of old wives tales. One old wives tale is that the shape or firmness of the belly tells gender, it doesn't that's why ultrasounds exist. Another is that an experienced mother/ grandmother's have a weird 6th sense about this stuff and can just tell because they have had kids and that somehow translates to a masters in gynecology. It's all just old world bs superstitions that's dying out with every new generation.

Even weirder, you can have a false "it's a girl", but not a false "it's a boy", because depending of the position of the fetus, you can miss the penis, but you can't see the penis and later be like "oh, it was actually a toe" or something like this

My aunt used to get irritated at my mom for dressing my brother up in my old clothes rather than buying new ones. (The princess footie pajamas were the worst offender in her eyes.) @Dope-io I know and posted a couple replies to people how it's gross to color code babies to advertise their genitals to strangers. That said I at least understand that most people label pink as "girl" and blue as "boy, what I don't understand is why purple is now arbitrarily being added to the "girl" list. @@Ikajo The US used to do that. Ernest Hemingway was dressed in girl outfits for his toddler years. I will go and confirm your statement to satiate my curiosity. Everybody assumed I would be a girl, thinking it would make the perfect 2 boys 2 girls family and that the 2 sisters with a 1 year difference would be the best friends in the world. They didnt make any test, they didnt even think of a boys name. When I popped with the unexpected thing between my legs, they had to think of a name on the fly and my parents didn't even agree. My father had to leave to finish his final exams in another country. He came back like 4 weeks later and was calling me the wrong name and my mother and grandma (who was helping since my father was away) were calling me another name, they finally kept my mothers choice because of it and I'm kind of happy cause my father's choice was really bad. And to be 1 year appart from my sister did make me a man than is not totally clueless about women, which kind of helps.

The mum stating that once their son could fit in the dresses, he’d be wearing them had me laughing out loud!!! Brilliant mum! My husband and I were the first to get married and pregnant (he’s the oldest of three boys) on his side of the family. My MIL was literally dying inside to have granddaughters and made sure everyone knew. I LOVE my MIL and I hit the jackpot with her but in the beginning things were tense as I had boundaries. We never found out the sexes of our kids. She was not pleased but went with it. Then she was crying that I was not allowing her in the delivery room to see her first grand baby born. My husband and I were both pretty creeped out about that request to be honest! We told her, if you weren’t there for conception, you aren’t there for delivery. Didn’t matter in the end as I had an emergency c-section to…A GIRL!! All was quickly forgotten and she was trying to fill my house with pink. I said ‘please don’t as we plan on having more and infants are in onesies, diapers and swaddled regardless’. Well, I got pregnant again within one year and you guessed it, another girl! I finally said yes to SOME pink. My house looked like a pig blew up! My husband’s brothers had sons, out of wedlock (Catholic family, big no-no) saying they didn’t have time to get married. It was hilarious. I don’t care one way or another, as long as the baby is healthy and they are happy! 23 years later, multiple prom dress shopping, homecoming dress shopping and wedding dress shopping in the future (please Lord give me at least another 5 yrs on that), she’s quite pleased! @@DanielLopez-up6os well, there are different types of retirement plans in the US. Some are savings and investment accounts purely under your name and whatever you have saved up will go with you whenever you leave, your job will just stop adding to it from your paycheck and matching it, if they have such a program. These are typically plans like 401k's and IRAs. This is what every young professional I know seems to have. The upside is that there is basically no upper limit to how big the account can get and if there's anything left in it when you die, it will pass to your heirs. The downside is, like a savings account, it will eventually get depleted, so most people work and save until they feel confident the amount in the account(s) will last. Pension plans, on the other hand, require you to work at the same company for a specific amount of time to qualify for payouts. These are guaranteed payments of some percentage of your final salary for the rest of your life. The downside is that this does not usually pass to your heirs and only benefits them as long as you are alive. Firing someone just to avoid paying their pensions is, I'm sure, highly illegal but also somewhat difficult to prove.

Funny that sewing is mentioned in one of the stories right out of the gate! That is exactly what I am doing as I listen to this video!! But I have to make a TLDR statement that is interesting if you feel like reading a little, lol. Sewing is actually an extremely rewarding skill to have as well as EXTREMELY handy. I’m not talking about simply hand sewing or needlepoint type stuff but rather about machine sewing. Understanding fabrics ranging from cotton and Sunbrella to webbing and leather, pattern making, seam allowance practices, different types of stitches, and specific thread types along with how to correlate them all with using the correct needle and tensions will deliver to you a skill that will serve you a lifetime. I learned to sew when Mom started traveling a lot with my father and wasn’t around to fix stuff when she was gone. I had her show me how to sew and then she told me I would promptly be executed if I touched her high end Swiss Bernina sewing machine. She bought me my own used portable Kenmore machine (that was actually a damn good machine) and I started fixing and making all kinds of stuff. Back then if a guy was sewing and wasn’t specifically a tailor, you got all the “That’s a girls thing” zingers constantly. That is until they saw the stuff I would show up with that I made myself, lol. Custom backpacks, redoing my motorcycle seat with cool heavy duty fabrics, etc. Once I discovered the walking foot machines and bought myself a portable Thompson Mini Walking Foot machine, that’s when the real cool stuff was getting made. Leather and canvas duffel bags, leather messenger book bags for school, and suddenly a few friends were having me show them how to sew, lol. 🤓😎🤓 The two manufacturing processes that you encounter or are engaging with literally 24/7 are sewing and welding. These processes are SO present that they have become invisible to ones daily perception of what is present in their immediate surroundings. Folks don’t realize that they are in contact with stitches every single day as soon as they get dressed and put on their shoes (notice all the different types of stitches and thread used in your clothing and in your shoes) the same as they encounter something metal that is welded as soon as they walk out the door and grab ahold of the welded wrought iron hand rail mounted into the cement on their front porch. Then they jump into the school bus and there is a welded frame and sewn stitches in every seat. Sewing is one of the primary means of “welding” fabrics together but instead of heat and melting metal, it’s stitches with a needle and thread. If you have ever heard the word “textiles”, that is the category that sewing lands under. And speaking of under, when the kids get to school and there is a fabric awning covering the front entrance walkway, those awnings are sewn together the same as the tarp covering the boat in the backyard.it’s EVERYWHERE!!! I started sewing in the 7th grade and now at 56 years old I can honestly say that learning how to sew as a kid was the smartest thing I could have done. Even though I have expertise in a number of different fields ranging from mechanical engagement with light to heavy machinery of through to computer tech method development, the most handy skill I possess that has served me extremely well all my life has been sewing. Today I have two large industrial sewing machines along with a few types of vintage all metal domestic machines from the 1940’s and 1950’s that will outperform ANY plastic throwaway machine made today for straight or zigzag stitching no matter HOW expensive it may be. I have a medium/heavy duty walking foot industrial machine, a vintage Singer 20U33 straight stitch and super wide zigzag industrial machine (probably the most versatile non walking foot machine eager made and this model number vintage is the absolute best version ever produced), a 1952 Pfaff freearm straight/zigzag stitch domestic, a 1949 Pfaff flatbed straight/zigzag stitch domestic, a super powerful early 1970’s Kenmore mini portable that can even stitch through 10 layers of heavy denim or thick non-veg tanned leather, and a few machines as collector/decoration machines from the 1910, 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s. I make my own custom wallets, grill covers, messenger/computer bags that are FAR more heavy duty than would cost probably $700-$1000 if bought in a store. Basically anything I want that is stitched that I can’t find in the stores, I make it myself as well as make tons of gifts for family and friends that are always very much treasured since I made them myself. So the moral or message from the story is this; No matter what direction you head in life be it a laborer on a construction crew, or a lawyer representing that construction laborer in an injury case, learning how to sew will unquestionably raise your own sense of personal confidence and accomplishment the more you engage with the skill to create complex, high quality articles and items. And when you have friends contact you for a little help fixing a ripped or torn item of value to them and you can put it back in their hands as good as new from your sewing skills, it really is a uniquely rewarding feeling. This is going to sound pretty corny, but it’s actually absolutely true. Aside from your career or hobbies including sporting activities, everything becomes a more rewarding long term experience if you know how to sew. There is just something unique about sewing that gives a very different inner boost knowing you can make it or fix it if it has stitches, which is basically a lot of stuff we engage with every single day. OK, lol. That was long enough!!! But I just had to get that out, LOL!!! 🤓👍🏻😎👍🏻🤓

The story about the new parents with the crazy mother in law makes me so uncomfortable One, who cares if the baby is a girl? You should treat all your grandkids the same. And you never know if those kids are going to discover they feel differently later, so what is the point of making a big deal out of it? And the elders being upset about the babies color scheme? Who cares??? It’s disgusting that some people still see things in terms of pink and blue. I feel bad for all these grandkids, they’re gonna have some awful gender roles imposed on them by their extended family (if not by their parents)

Final story: IANAL but it seems they asked for something completely illegal. Signed, sent and received on the exact date? That's not how it works, there are regulations for meeting terms and "too early" is most definitely not one of them. It would have been even funnier for OP to threaten them with a criminal complaint for attempted fraud. Here in Germany, you can absolutely cancel a contract the very moment it is agreed upon. E.g. telecom contracts often have a minimum duration of 24 months after which they are automatically extended by some more months. You can cancel the contract immediately, you just have to make sure that either the termination date is correct, i.e. 2 years in the future, or to use a phrase like "at the earliest possible date". (Again, IANAL but this is what I remember from grammar school and it has always worked for me.) The theoretical term I remember from school is expressed will (or consent). Once consent is *clearly* withdrawn, there's nothing the other party can do about it, other than offering voluntary incentives, of course. But if you e.g. write a wrong date on the cancellation notice, then they may argue that your will is unclear or conflicts with the contract or regulations, and you may have to send another notice and possibly remain party to the contract longer than intended.

When my landlord tried to keep our security deposit because of 'damage to the carpets' When I argued that,that was her builders taking them up to put heating in, she told me to prove it. So I did. On the day we were meant to be out I stayed.. all day. I sat and listened to the workers, took pictures, videos, found samples of mold in the carpet,and sent the evidence to the deposit people.. Got my deposit back in full. The best thing is the landlady, lived next door, and tried to say we had left rubbish outside the house. No...she just forgot to take the bin out 3 days after we left.

Yeah my dad had a similar problem at the very last complex we lived in before moving into a house back in '98. He was the lead maintenance who lived on property and when it came time for us to officially move out, he left the place clean and in much better condition than when we moved in. It was move in ready, nothing had to be done to it. The company running the place not only tried to keep the security deposit for 'damages' when there weren't any because my dad fixed or replaced everything before we left but tried to charge him $500 by putting a lien on our new home for taking out permanent shelving he got written permission to install and leave there. The pool houses he built to enclose the pumps and filtering systems are still there to this day though.

Honestly - everyone is crappy in the baby story, except for the baby. The mother in law may be dumb, self absorbed and entitled, but parents aren't much better for using the baby as a prop for their stupid petty comeback. It did not even achieve anything other than irritating the other relatives, who were fooled by the MIL. Besides, the internet remembers - who knows what the baby will think of the parents making a fool out of him in front of everyone on record once he grows up? Child grudges tend to accumulate, and seeing the kind of mean and petty relationships the family has - I'd guess it won't be the last one. Now the mature thing would be to make a big show of being all polite and mature, calling everyone who gifted the clothes, asking if they may have the checks so the clothes can be returned, being all sad and understanding if the checks are missing. And then very discreetly and insidiously say something like "Oh, you know MIL, whenever she gets an idea inside her head there's no talking her out of it"... In fact this is probably the best weapon the parents have to erode the MIL's trustworthiness and disarm her from any undeserved authority. Just needs to make sure to bring this mess up every time there's a family gathering or she does something stupid - just do it discreetly or sort of in jest.

Second story about the company firing employees just before they retire to avoid paying retirement money. I presume that this is in the USA. Here in the UK, pension funds must by law be held separately from the company, so if you leave or get fired or if the company goes under, your pension is not effected. In fact, this happened to a friend of mine. He worked for a large UK based company for a couple of decades, then one day got into a massive argument with a supplier and told them to f. off. He was fired. After a court case, he received a large financial settlement for wrongful dismissal and when he reached retirement age, was still able to draw his accrued pension from the company.
