So true. My ex husband and I had a non-monogamous relationship, but he insisted on hiding that fact "for now". After we broke up, a lot of my friends stopped talking to me as often and I tried to get in touch to make sure they were okay. That's when I realised they had blocked me. I was so confused. I mean, some of them were even my friends first, before they became mutual friends. I understood that after a break-up, sometimes you only stay friends with one of the people, but still. One of my friends had NOT blocked me, and he also hadn't been blocked by anyone else. He's the one who told me what happened: my ex told people I had cheated on him. And because I did have another partner, there were pictures to "prove" it. My other partner had posted them and since there was no longer any reason to hide that I'm non-monogamous, I was quite happy for them to be seen by anyone who felt like it. He was overdue for having our relationship publicly acknowledged, after all. I never thought anyone who knew me could think I had cheated. If anyone had asked, or even said "How could you?" and gave me the time to type an answer, they would have known the truth too. It really sucked. I was closer to his family than mine and they all shunned me, and I didn't have a lot of people left on my side. Obviously a very different situation, since in OP's case, there was no reason for anyone to believe the crazy stories, and in my case, people could have believed it if they squinted and didn't read anyone's profile before blocking them. But considering how much I was hurt, I can't imagine how much more it must have hurt her :(
The guy who accidentally hit the woman is right to take her to court. She has damaged you publicly, and that kind of accusation can follow a man around like skunk stink.
FYI, last story had a juicy update. Turns out Tim never had the paternity test done because the "deadbeat" contacted OP. He wants to be a father to his child and is a plumber with a good income, but has no interest in Sarah. The reason he hadn't stepped forward before was because Sarah told him she was terminating the pregnancy.

She has no obligation to him, but it would be nice to talk things through with him. What happened was really messed up and not entirely his fault. Of course a cheater would also deny everything. Ask yourself this, if a random dude/girl came to you, giving a detailed confession on how they slept with your SO and she/he denied everything, would your first thought really be "oh, a jealous friend must have paid them to do that"? Cheaters are known to deny everything to the last point AND a partner's cheating usually comes as a total surprise, so this is a really tough situation. What could either one of them have done to prove anything?

It will take a long time for people to change their minds about you. I would say their lives aren't ruined but most definately seriously damaged. If it would work, I would get them to trickle out a half-arsed apology and then still take them to court.

Update to Sarah story: OP gave the family an ultimatum on they can either believe her or have her out of their lifes, and initially the parents backed Sarah. Turns out the deadbeat who slept with Sarah ended up reaching out to op on private, saying he was sure he was the father and that Sarah actually told him she was going to terminate the pregnancy. The deadbeat told her parents that he would completely support his child and Sarah, but dont want to be with her at all. Sarah dont admit her lie, instead, she started to "fake" a mental illness to cover up. OP says she now know how much of a manipulator Sarah is. Things still strained between the family but OP is making progress, Sarah moved on to get attention because now shes pregnant and "ill". She is not obsessive with Tim anymore, but OP refuses to be around her. After the baby was born, one of OP cousins send her a picture of the birth certificate, which had the name of the deadbeat guy. Tim proposed OP and now they're planning a long engagement - Sarah is not invited to their wedding.
The last story. Sarah is trying to accuse Tim of secretly sleeping with her when Tim isnt even sublte enough to keep his intention to propose a secret. How idiotic....

Just had to add a correction: if the “parents” aren’t married, the DAD would have to add his name himself to the birth certificate. The mom can’t just add some random guys name and then go for child support. If that were the case, I’d be pregnant with Elon Musk’s bastard right now, lol!
Indeed, in Britain at least, if the parents are not married and they both want to be on the birth certificate, they both need to be present at the time of registration. Getting added to the certificate after the fact is extremely difficult and requires proof. I don't know how it differs in other countries though....
In the US, it varies by state and how willing the courts are to actually follow the paperwork. The truth is, under certain scenarios, a different guy's name can be put on the birth certificate. Without knowing more about the reddit poster, all I can contribute is that the story from this video has some of requirements. The problem is bad enough a term "paternity fraud" exists.
That's not true for everywhere. In Detroit there was a case of a man being wrongly added to a birth certificate and was forced to pay child support or go to jail. They also wouldn't let him demand a paternity test. The woman was fully aware he wasn't the father.
I'm in Florida. If a woman is married, the husband's name can automatically go on the birth certificate. However, if the man isn't present to sign, no name can just be put on a birth certificate. I can't imagine being able to put any name. The justice system is broken but not stupid. A woman could randomly pluck a celebrities name or a rich man's name, put him on the birth certificate and get child support? Nonsense. The only problem I have seen is a husband whose wife has cheated having to pay child support until he takes her to court and gets a paternity test. There is no denying a paternity test, it might take awhile but imagine how many celebrities would be nailed with child support of random kids if any of that was possible.

I work as a security guard (lately I have been working at a lot of bars while they slowly reopen) everytime someone tries to fight me I clearly tap my pepper spray on my belt and say "Just know that, if you miss... I won't." 9/10 times they get the message. 1/10 I have a lot of paperwork to fill out. Essentially my belief is: someone tries to hurt you, hit back harder.

the advice on getting a court order to have Sarah take a paternity test is spot on. This happened to me. I dated a girl in college for just a couple of weeks. She was, let's say friendly, to many of the guys I was encircled with. anyway she got pregnant, and said she'd "let the father know in her own way." Her "way" was just to put MY NAME on the birth certificate. I didn't even know this until 2 years later when Family Services summoned me to court for child support. People started calling me a deadbeat, a loser. The people I worked for made life so uncomfortable I had to quit (didn't like the job that much anyway, so no big). I talked to my lawyer and she decided I needed to "take the B----- down." Day of court, her case worker showed documents on how we briefly dated, that we had a short but active sexual life that resulted in a daughter. witnesses that we dated, AND my name on the birth certificate. My lawyer then just handed the lawyer and the judge a document and said "your Honor, I'll let this speak for itself." the document was medical records showing I was born STERILE!!! After the judge read it, he looked at the girl and just asked "do you even know WHO the father is?" she never said a word. Seconds after the judge dismissed the case, my lawyer handed the girl a lawsuit for defamation of character. Her family settled out of court. Sad part is, if she had shown any signs of being anyway decent, I probably would have dated her again and made an effort to be a father to the child. Fatherhood is the one thing in my life I sorely miss. But after dating her the first time, no way was I going to have that nonsense in my life.

In regards to the final story: Maybe this isn't true in all states, but as far as I know, the crazy sister can NOT just add any name to the birth certificate and go for child support. If they aren't married, both parents have to fill out paperwork agreeing to have the father added and has to be notarized and all that. If she wanted to put him down and he didn't agree or vice versa, that's when the court can order the paternity test in order to determine if he should be on the birth certificate. Either way, i hope they get the test so everyone can see how the step sister is lying her ass off!

Well no, in among us you find out whether it's a lie or not after you eject the person. Even if confirm ejects is off, it's usually safest to just throw them both out. (This isn't even talking about if you're playing with friends via vc)
Actually Rslash, the girl CANT write any random name down on the birth certificate. They have a nurse and staff present and verify the man is in the room, is who he says he is (ID), and willingly acknowledges paternity before HE signs the birth certificate papers. My SO almost couldnt sign our daugters papers because in the rush of labor he forgot where he put his wallet and we had to find it before we could establish his paternity (luckily it was just in his coat pocket and he missed it on the first look). But they dont just let anyone sign willy nilly. My SO couldnt sign without proving he was who he said he was (because how easy would it be for a random guy to say "yeah Im John Doe" and falsify paternity on someone elses behalf). That said. She can petition the court to have him named as the father. In which she would still have to get a paternity test in order to prove who she was going after truly was the father before they can place any legal ramifications on him such as being named on the birth certificate and supplying child support. I cant say this is how it works everywhere but at least in the states, theres no real way to strong arm someone onto the birth certificate without a paternity test taking place. There are those stories of people scribbling the name down and saying the guy filled it out but there are specific procedures in place to avoid those situations so IF that happens your hospital failed you and that is a BIG lawsuit ready to happen both against the people who falsified the records and the hospital who allowed it

Here’s the update to the post (the one with the girl who was accused of cheating on him but was framed) Hello, I am back with an update. But before that I just want to say thank you to everybody who left nice comments. A few of y’all were telling me to kill myself. I am disappointed but not surprised. Anyway, for someone who has had a bad relationship with social media, it really touched my heart to have so many strangers say nice things to me for a change. I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate it. Also the post received multiple awards?! Thank u for those!!!! So many people have also messaged me telling me that this has happened to them before and I’m trying to reply all the messages as quickly as I can. Please be patient with me. My ex returned a few hours later that day to try to speak to me again so I decided to meet him at a cafe nearby. I told him he had 30 mins to say what he wanted to and then I would leave, regardless of whether he said all that he wanted to or not. I learnt that he was cheating on me with the girl friend and they started seeing each other 5-6 months before our relationship ended. His whole clique knew about it and since majority of them worked in the same building, they could cover and vouch for the two of them whenever they were together. He didn’t know who to choose out of the two of us as he said that he really loved me, but liked her. She was also saying horrible things about me to him all the time, poisoning his mind, which was why he was so quick to believe the boy and her. As for the paying a boy to lie to him part, he told me he practically screamed at her for an explanation of the videos and she broke down crying and told him everything. At the party, she paid a boy from uni (idk where she found this boy and how he got into the party) $200 and 2 bottles of vodka for him to lie to my ex. Apparently she kept saying to him, “see I told you she’s cheating! He’s admitting it to you”. He was so upset and didn’t know what to do. She told him that she’ll help him “pack my shit” so he could “finally kick that ho out”. They both decided to just behave as though nothing had happened so I would be so surprised when he kicked me out. According to him, he wanted me to feel the same amount of betrayal he felt. She had a spare key to our apartment that I didn’t know about, so she snuck in when we were sleeping, packed my stuff into garbage bags and snuck out by the time he woke up. We turned our extra room into a walk in closet, which is how I think that was even possible because I didn’t hear any noise at all. I am a heavy sleeper too which could explain this but I still feel like something’s off about this. (Note: she moved in the very next day) He then proceeds to say that he doesn’t want her anymore and he wants to get back together. He says that we can move away and start over. He’ll do anything I want and go anywhere I want to. He’ll spend the rest of his life doing whatever it takes for me to love him again. Once he was done I told him what you guys have been saying in the comments. He sure has the audacity to show his face after everything he has done to me. I chose to forgive him and am at peace with myself, but he will have to live with what he has done and the aftermath of everything for a really long time. This is especially so with many people knowing the truth. I told him I didn’t love him anymore and want nothing to do with him, his family or friends anymore. As far as I am concerned they’re all dead to me. I told him to never contact me again because I’m moving on with my life and I’m finally happy. He started crying a little and I left. Since the video on Instagram spread to all of his friends and family members, the crazy girl friend sent me emails with words in all caps about how I’ve ruined her life. She somehow thinks I’m responsible for the spread of the videos.. So I sent the videos, screenshot of the emails and a short explanation of everything to her bosses and her family members. Hope they have a field day with that. As for my parents, they really loved him a lot and would constantly ask us when we were getting married when we were together. That’s why they wanted me to give him another chance and hear him out. I reiterated to them everything that he did to me and even showed them the videos only for me to get a response of, well men cheat and a “he loved u so he didn’t break up with u. It’s okay you guys can work through this.” I then proceeded to ask them if my dad is cheating on my mom and if my mom just accepts if my dad sleeps around because that thought process was absolutely outrageous. I got yelled at for being rude so I told them that I would be going no contact for the next few months. Well, that’s all the updates I have so far. Im glad that I’m finally happy and will continue living my peaceful life with my friends and my boyfriend. Hope u all stay safe during this pandemic. First story had an update: OP agreed to meet her ex for half an hour. He admitted that he had cheated on her 5 to 6 months prior to New Years with his female friend and most of his friends knew and covered for them. He was sorry for everything they did to her and asked for a second chance, telling her that they could move somewhere else and have a totally fresh start. Female friend lost her job and almost all friends, contacted OP and blamed OP for ruining her life. The worst part of the update were OP's parents who told her that maybe she should give ex one more chance. When OP asked her mom if her dad cheated on her and that's why she was ok with the ex cheating on OP, OP was told that she was rude. So OP went no contact for some time.

Regarding the last story with the obsessive lying sister, if it was me and my girlfriend, we'd set up a sting. Have him text her that they broke up, when really the wife is hiding in the next room recording the conversation. Have him ask her why she lied to their family and friends over this. If she's as delusional as I think she is, she'd say something crazy like "because we belong together" or "because I love you", and not outright deny lying at all. Show the recording to the family and friends to out her for the liar she is.

That lying brother and sister need to be taken to court. That's probably the only way that they'll learn to stop slandering people and might even deter the brother from continuing with his predatory behavior. Sometimes people need to learn expensive lessons. I certainly have. The pregnant stepsister needs to be hit with a court ordered paternity test. If it was me in this situation, I'd also get a restraining order against all of them so that they would stop harassing me. There is no reason that she and Tim should have to deal with that type of abuse.
I’ve read through a majority of the comments and almost all of them are “why does gender matter?”. Good to see that most people aren’t sexist and think women deserve special privileges.
For accidental assault, here's something funny: OP sues, they get their lives destroyed. They post they lied, everyone hates them, and their lives are destroyed. No matter which, OP comes out on top. He should sue, though, because they did go after everything he has, pretty much.
