The R1 cat is substantially different to the MT10. This video explains how, why it could be a better option and considerations if you wished to go down this route.
Very helpful vid, i got a full R1 exhaust on its way so good to know what i'm up for. I had a set of those rearsets but took them back because of the pain with the rear brake switch, i think i spoke to you on FB about your switch kits. Good thing is now i know that i'll have to make a bracket for the exhaust and maybe cut the sheild a bit so it all fits, many thanks
Very nice i went decat stainless for a bloke in Greece (£112) with p&p perfect and a scorpion RP1 -GP carbon can and that sounds nice with over run pops n bands
Hi Jeff. These are Rizoma reverse retro. I have fitted them using Rizoma bar ends that do screw direct into the threaded MT bars. They're not a cheap solution but they are awesome quality and work really well. I also supply them www.cregtech.co.uk
Sorry for the late reply. They're Bonamici. Not sure I'd recommend them personally. Great quality and fit but the heel guard on both side is located awkwardly so they dog into your foot. They're far from heel guards. I removed them but you shouldn't have to on a near £400 set of rearsets.
Yes - It is a straight swap Dalton. Just not the issues of the more up swept exit from the R1 cat. This will mean your can, if it uses the exhaust hanger/bracket, will unlikely fit. That and rearset clearance too.
I have one that I was given with the can. Going to fit it soon I think. Only issue I have is I have the Gilles MT10 rear sets .... I may need a hander solution 🤔. I assume after fitting this if I wanted a after market can I'd have to shop for a R1 can?
With the R1 cat you may need to trim the heat shield but I don't think it's alot. That is unless you've have your rear sets adjsuted for a higher riding position where they will then clear the shield. As for exhausts, if you have a shirte can that doesn't use the exhaust hanger then any can will do. If you have an exhaust that does then you will likely need to make a small plate to add to the exhaust hanger. This is because the R1 cats exit is swept up more than the MT so it won't align. Depending on the exhaust and set up it can be an easy swap. My old SP can had a clamp that to fix it so it doesn't matter where the bracket sits as the clamp can slide and down the can. The old R1 can the bracket is welded so would not fit with out some adjustments as per the video where I moved the hanger to unused bolt holes on the rear sets.
I had the same idea than you and found your movie. At the moment I put only last exhaust from R1. Sound is little better. R1 and MT10 exhausts looks very simillar but from R1 inside diameter is about 10mm more than MT10. Soon I will try with R1 cat. Do you think that is any good reason for remove cat insert and put only empty box?
Its an individual choice. Having tried a decat twice and finding it too loud I have settled with the cat for the noise suppression. To gut it would pretty much make it a link pipe in my view but less effective due to indirect air flow and possible back pressure issues. I myself would recommend leaving it alone or get a proper decat.
@@Cregtech Ah,not titanium. :-( And actually the R1 cat is 1,4 kilo more heavy than the MT10. I wish there was someone that had tested it on preformance difference.
@@mototechsam3051 correct. 217 to be exact, (if I remember correct). On my 18 R1, I had the ECU flashed to set fans at 195, Engine Ice Coolant, and Silicone hoses by Samco. In Texas heat, it would chill at 205 stopped, 180 to 190 on freeway, and about 150 to 168 at night.
@@mototechsam3051 wish I could. Wrecked last year. Rode it everywhere put just under 18K miles on it since purchase. Will buy another soon though. Probably an MT. I heard that it comes with S/S headers. But I still have the Ti headers from my R1 as well as the Akra GP Evo.
