Lefty? Reverse the pattern instructions for the bottom rows.
Too big or too small? Go up a hook size to make it larger. Go down a hook size if you want it smaller. Too short? Add an additional row or white to make it longer.

I just love your crochet tutorials! I wanted to learn how to crochet just so I could do your tutorials, and I think I've gotten addicted XD. I have made this hat 3 times. this time around I decided to combine two of my favorite patterns. the lazy crochet cluster hat and this r2d2 scheme. I am so happy with this one. I love this hat and everyone wants it lol. each one has been a bit different and I can't thank you again for taking the time to share this with us.

Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial! My daughter asked me to make one for her friend who is having a baby. I had to miniaturize it all so it didn’t fit all the appliqués as nice as an adult size but the recipient loved it 😍

I absolutely LOVE your tutorials! In MY opinion, they are some of the best ones on You Tube! I made the BB8 hat and it turned out PERFECTLY! Keep them coming! Any chance you can do an infant cowboy/cowgirl boots and hat?

Amazing job! Im not a huge crotcheter, usually only make something I can gift every once in a very long time. Last time I followed along with another youtuber video and made my new nephew back in may a little hat. Would love to now make him this, do you think it is sized for a 6 month old? Will def b headed out for yarn!

How many stitches across for a toddler size in blue at the bottom (after the 5 rows of white DC)? Is it still 13?

It looks great! How was the fit? I did notice you crocheted into the space between the crochets from the last round, rather than the stitch, which is why your final product looks a little different than mine.

+HanDIY Tutorials Yes. It fits great. I wanted it to be a little looser on my big head... :) I liked the hint of blue at the bottom instead of the full blue line. I tried it both ways and thought this way was interesting.

When will the written hat pattern be available? I've had to redo it several times going up to a J hook because it looks like a cone!

Be sure you keep the yarn loose when you are carrying it over for the next block of color. Going up a hook size is the right move if you have a tighter stitch.

I would personally keep the same hook size, just do a round less of increase (I explain in the tutorial) and take out a round on the bottom of the hat section of the hat so it is shorter. The other alternative is to go down a hook size and just make the child size version. Let me know how it goes!

I have just got to the point where you have measured it for the first time and some how mine is only 5 inches across and doesn't sit nice and flat like yours does. I'm using DK/8ply wool and 5.0mm hook.

Yes you can use a smaller hook and take out a couple rows of the white in the middle.

I am on round 7 and what the directions say and what you do is different. Maybe I have it wrong but are you counting the chain 3 ty for your and help and also you said this fits a 18 mth to a 3 year old. where do I increase it to fit a 4 to 6 year old

Yes, you are right about round 7. I can understand how that would be confusing. Follow what I do in the video. Just continue to increase in the increase stitches from the previous round. For toddler, stop increase after round 6, for child ages 4+ stop increase after round 7. Sorry for confusion! Let me know if you have any questions.

What size are you making it?

You just need do reverse the pattern for those rounds. For adult size, start with 7 blue, then go *one white, three blue* 3 times, 15 white, 6 blue, one white, blue to the end of the round. I hope this helps!

the pattern is very easy to follow, thank you. my only problem is, as a new crocheter, that even with an "I" hook, I still only measure at 5 and a quarter. about to tear it apart for the third time and try again with a larger hook.

+Cali Stevens Yes if you have a tight stitch definitley move up to a larger hook size. I'm sorry it is not turning out the way you hoped! I hope the hook change helps.

Success! Using a J hook I managed to make it reach 6 inches. hopefully the rest of the pattern will reach the size I need (making it for a friend whose head measures to 22.5 inches around). At least i have the first part memorized. lol.

Turtle Express Not even a full skein. You can usually make a few hats with one skein of yarn.

For some reason when I added a stitch prior to slip stitching at the end it added 3 extra and I had 33 instead of 30 in my white stripe. :-( No matter....I just made the back block of blue a bit bigger than the others.

Be sure to keep the strands loose when changing color. You must have a tighter stitch than I do. If it is still too small with a hook size change try going up another hook size. What weight yarn are you using?

i even went up to a size I and im using 4 ply yarn i wanted for my 18 yr old brother for christmas but it didnt happen it still wont fit so im tearing it apart again

What yarn type did you use? Cause I used a 4mm Hook and light yarn and it turned out waay to small^^ I did the Adult sized one and it barely fits my aunts toddler :'( am I doing something wrong? Should I go up to medium or even bulky yarn?

Yes you need a medium weight yarn and a 4.25 mm crochet hook. Since yours turned out so small you could also try bumping your hook size up one.

It is a regular ruler in inches. if it isn't coming out the same for your hat make sure you are keeping the strands loose when changing colors. If is is still too small go up a hook size or two.

Yes I'd go with a smaller hook size and make the toddler version. You also may want to skip a round or two of white so it isn't as long.

how far across on the top would you need to go for an x-large adult size?

+Shaun Merritt For a regular adult size, 7.5-8 inches is good. But for an extra large adult, I would want it to measure between 8 and 9 inches across. So for this hat, I would probably add one additional row of increase. So on round 9, add another round of increase.
