Great review, and totally agree with all points except the lack of luggage. Are you aware that this bike has factory panniers with 56 liters of storage? That's more than enough for multi day trips.
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 6 лет назад
Jonathan Long well I know they have them, but the options they showed me were very small, the size of the Versys 650LT.
@TudorRebel
@TudorRebel 5 лет назад
Agree this bike has plenty of storage, I’ve done a mini Eu tour camping, (8 days 6 countries) no issue with storage, panniers can carry a lot, great bike, the buzz through the bike at 5k rpm is almost not worth mentioning, fantastic tourer, with the heart of a sports bike.

I have a 2013 Ninja 1000 and it's one of the greatest things ever no regrets ever since I bought it about a year ago Freedom machine

I own a 2016 Ninja 1000. Its a awesome bike with a ton of power but very manageable.
@Truthasvictim

Nice job RH. I have the 2018 Ninja 650, love it, but now I kind of wish I just went with this machine as now I'll end up taking a big hit trading in on it. All that 650 power just makes me want more of it. The guy at the store told me that as great as the 650 is, that I'd find the 1000 to be a completely different, and better machine with little resemblance to the 650.
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 5 лет назад
The 4 is so much more exciting than the parallel twin and he is completely right. The 650 is a great machine, but it does not have the thrust, the smoothness, and the agility of this big thing.

Thanks for the great review. When I was looking for a new bike it was between the Ninja 1000 and the zx14r. I ended up with the zx14r because the dealer didn't have a Ninja 1000 in stock at that time. I'm very happy with the zx14r. It's very smooth and comfortable, not to mention blazing fast. I think I could have been just as happy with the Ninja 1000, it seems to have everything that I would need. It wouldn't be quite as fast as the zx14r, but has all the speed you can use on the street.
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 6 лет назад
The 14 is an amazing motorcycle. The one thing for me is that I do not like to be so folded up. But you are enjoying a great machine and you are in the wind. You keep that rubber side down!
@fun89stang
@fun89stang 6 лет назад
You are right about the riding position, but it's not nearly as radical as a sport bike like a zx10. I'm 59 years old and it was a concern for me, but so far so good. The riding position only bothers me slightly at low speeds in town riding where there isn't much air blowing against me. I may end up getting handlebar risers eventually.
@Stclairm1
@Stclairm1 4 года назад
@@fun89stang I went last summer thinking I would leave on a 14R, but I rode the Z900RS and was done. Looking back, I wish I would have took the chance with the higher foot position AND wind protection. I thought I loved the RS until I rode it aggressively through turns and got wore out from the wind pulling my arms off while cornering aggressively. I could have got some rearsets and fixed that some.

Hello, thank you for the video. Does the 2019 have the 3 “Rider modes” Sport/Road/Rain like the 2020+? I know this year has the Power mods (F/L) and also Traction Control levels but I’m not sure about the Riding modes.

I had the 2011 with the factory Givi side cases and heated grips. Those were the only options back then. The wind screen was 3 position angle adjustable. I wish they still had it this way, but with traction control, ABS, ride modes, etc... it's not for me. I hate ABS. I did put a full race Akropovich dial exhaust on mine and a Sargent seat. The seat in my opinion was a waste of money. Not much difference really. Grunt in any gear at 2krpm. I have the opportunity though to get a good deal on a NOS 2016 Suzuki Bandit and wanted your thoughts about how they compare. Loved your review of the Bandit. By the way, when I bought my Ninja in 2011 new the MSRP was $10,999. I got it for $8,299 brand new, zero miles. It was a no-brainer. I got the bags and grips and was still out the door (with complimentary tank protector) at $10,240.
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 6 лет назад
Not a bad deal on that Ninja 1K back in the day. That is a tough call. The Ninja is the performance champ between the two of them and it is more aggressive in terms of seating and suspension as well. The Bandit is smooth and powerful enough to bring a smile to the face, is an able machine in the turns and sits more upright. If you want to blast around and enjoy the blur get the Ninja 1K. If you want to cruise and enjoy the view the Bandit.

I’ve been interested in test riding some Kawasaki motorcycles with the Ninja 1000 being one of them for about two years now. I can’t find a Kawasaki dealer here in the DFW area that allows test rides. Disappointing because I like what I see and hear about their bikes. Almost every other major manufacturer allows them. Enjoyed your video, keep them coming.
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 6 лет назад
Thanks will do! I am surprised they do not allow it, but it is more common here now as it is getting to a point that insurance companies do not allow the rides on sport type bikes as there have been some incidents and maybe that is what is happening down there.

Greetings from Sydney Australia! I enjoyed your review and I'm glad you bought up the heat issue on the right hand side. I test rode the bike yesterday and the heat on my shin (I wear boots that come half way up my shins) was unbearable. It was the only thing I didn't really like about the bike. The stealer told me that once it has its first oil change at 1000 km they use a thinner oil that will fix the problem. I've seen on other reviews that reviewers think it's the catalytic converter causing the problem. What are your thoughts?

I kind of backwards riding my 2 bikes. I mainly cruise around town and the highways on my Z. But on my Indian Scout I'll run it on full throttle!!!!!!! But it's good to know I have the power on hand. Your also absolutely correctly about it will cruise around and be completely fine doing it!!!!

Also more fun to take a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow, unless it's this one cause it's an all around kind.

Considering this and the GSX-S1000F. Not sure what else I want to research in the best power to tour with category. This looks like it will leave a Tracer 900 in the dust.

So far in most of the reviews I found that -> There is a significant engine vibration that also propagates to foot pegs and handle bars between 5000 - 6000 engine RPM. Could you please comment on that.
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 6 лет назад
shashi bhushan from what I felt the vibes stayed away except at lower revs such as idle and such and were worked out when riding. I guess it depends on what bike you come from too what you consider vibes that cause issues.

From the video, never revved it high enough and sustained it to find that out.
@Wabbit1961
@Wabbit1961 6 лет назад
As a previous owner I can say that it does hit a resonance vibration (felt through the entire bike) at the 5krpm range but it's really insignificant. Every bike has a sympathetic resonance at a given rpm, trust me.

@@Reapers261 I really enjoy mine. I have a 2015 N1k. It's a tad tall for me, but I love the bike. If I had to wager what he sold his for, it's probably for a larger bike. It's got plenty of room, but if he's like me a takes lots of out of state tours, you start to feel a little cramped. But I'm also a larger build, I'm 5'8 270

In your opinion, does it have too short of gears?
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 4 года назад
No not at all. It has such a tall redline that each gear can be taken pretty high, but since it's more of a touring model vs a pure super sport it is shorter than say the ZX10R.

Just my two cents...I'm 5'8 although have a very short inseam (only 28 inch) and I sat on a 2018 Ninja 1000 today (that I started paperwork to buy) and was able to put the ball of both feet to the ground. I would prefer a little lower seat although feel that it will work fine for me stock. I have been riding motorcycles since I was in grade school (i'm 52 now) and so don't feel I need to flat foot to feel secure. My 2 cents.

Thank you both for your replies (i missed the notification for the first one). Unfortunately I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum: 6'6" with 35". Having a very rough time finding a sport bike with fuel injection and ABS that fits me. Closest I've gotten so far is the 2014-2016 Ninja 650

@@dattomcat89 I have the 2016 Ninja 650 (they are called an ER-6F over here) and I just bought a 2015 1000sx, bargain price with only 5k on the clock. If you are comfortable on the 650 you should be even better on the 1000sx.
@dattomcat89
@dattomcat89 5 лет назад
@@draiguk Much appreciate the additional input (and hello from Texas!). Coincidentally I dropped into my local dealership last weekend and was surprised at how well I fit on the Ninja 1000. My big problem with the current Ninja 650 is that the tank indentations (or whatever the term is for those knee-gripping recesses) aren't high enough, so I have to swing my left leg outward in order to shift up. Hopefully that description makes sense... But yes, the situation is much better on the 1000.
