As I was deer hunting in PA, I discovered a trio of young raccoons eating from a nannyberry viburnum bush. They were eating the fruits of this shrub which is also known as Wild Raisin. I watched the raccoons and their acrobatics as they showed both agility and clumsiness attempting to reach the desired fruit. For at least ten minutes I remained undetected but when the raccoon cubs or kits finally saw me, they did something I've never seen a raccoon do before...they played possum. That's right; they acted as though they were dead. One of the raccoons even hung upside down in the bush. And even after I was more than a hundred yards away from the coons after the encounter, they still remained motionless. A moment I will not soon forget!
