@@mago97615 I literally said forsure and after others made the wrong call, I don't know who you're trying to argue with. I'm just stating that it wasn't all about the intermediates for Verstappen, because if he hadn't passed Ric & Sainz he would have finished 4th. They all pitted at the same time for inters. ( I wasnt talking about any other drivers, and i do agree, alonso was really strong)
We don't talk enough about Max's last to 2nd here tbh. Amazing how many moments this season you can go back and say "That was the difference in the championship". Just spectacularly close competition all seaosn
2:21 "They're slow. It's a slow pit stop, Crofty..." Well, indeed. It took 15 hours 41 minutes and 30 seconds for McLaren team to complete Ricciardo's pit stop
Well, on Lando's side of the story would be: I know the rate of how slippery the track is becoming, therefore I should make the call instead of the team. Eventually, his prediction based on his "feelings" was wrong and those at the pit knew better. So Mercedes made a better decision at the end. Dramatic :)
It could have so easily had gone the other way, if the rain had cleared people would have been calling him a legend. That's what motor racing is all about though.
@RYG Talking absolute nonsense. Haha. He took a risk. And it didn't pay off. That's it. He'll learn and improve. As for his attitude at Monza. Who wouldn't be upset. He had the pace to pass Ricardo, but he put the team first and didn't fight him. That shows great character, exactly what you want in a teammate
This was quite the Anxiety inducing race, constantly wondering whether Lando could hold on and then the heartbreak with the rain situation. What a race!
Yes everything is predictable. What you're seeing is just the action demanded but in the end it's gonna be yet again hamboy and merc because it's part of the plan.
I feel so sorry for Lando, such an amazing drive and pace. I just want to hug him and whisper to his ear that in Soviet Russia you always change rubber before it gets too wet. ALWAYS.
@@sunflowersofinferno7904 That’s cringe, I can understand not liking a driver but calling someone a fraud when they drove brilliantly shows you’re hating.
I was noticing that during the race. All the great stuff going on that I was aware was happening at every moment (even sitting in my couch) was being dismissed almost purposely by the director. It's like there was a deal to avoid showing the best on track battles while boring the viewers with lap after lap of the same car not attacking or being attacked by anyone. One of the worst broadcasts of the year, close to the disgrace that was Monaco.
@@hjr_official yeah, I was thinking exactly this during the race... like show me verstappen overtaking or literally anything else, that isnt Lando going around corners while being 3s apart from car behind... the race directors are such a joke
@@ProWajxxx Precisely. There were top drivers carving through the field and lots of midfield battles going on, and we were being shown endless laps of the leading car driving by himself. All the action was only shown in replays, which is a joke.
I'm glad Ive watched this one live. Thrilling battle for first between Hamilton and Norris. Heartbreak for Lando, historic win for Hamilton, and my oh my, P20 to P2 Max.
@@bariscelik9819 every thing Lewis does is great, everything Max does is luck. Still far better drive than overrated drive of Hamilton in Brazil with rocket engine and safety car.
Same with Danny. He held of Lewis for 25 laps or something and then held off Max until the rain started. He's the reason Lando even had a fighting chance at the end
Everyone said that going there you will make you lose time. Alonso went there, without crushing, and didn't lost any time and he didn't risa by getting touched in the first correr.
Imagine telling someone in 2019 that the French, Hungarian and Russian gp were the most exciting races to watch in 2021, they would say you re crazy Edit: I didnt include Azerbaijan because every race from 2017-onwards has been thrilling, I included Hungary because 2019 was just a duel between Lewis and Max for only like 20 laps. And I didnt include Bahrain for the same reason like Baku
I’m an American so it was really early in the morning for me. My alarm didn’t go off and I missed it. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
Exciting race but his team f up. Asking Lando, what do think about inter. What do you think a young driver that can sniff the flag is going to say. Of course he wants to stay out. Drivers take risk against other drivers the engineers gamble on a young driver to make critical evaluations about the car and weather. The difference between Merc Engineers and the engineers at McLaren. Merc was decisive, didn't care about Lewis opinion. There was nothing to learn here.
Definitely going to be a battle. I think max a slight advantage w upcoming tracks but It will still Be really close. If max is ahead going into ABU DHABI it’s over. LH won’t beat max on that track. The constructors is over. Bottas is more consistent than checo over a season.
@@LRBxH Disagree, all the cars behind Daniel were absolutely flying once he boxed compared to him before. I dont think Daniel had the pace today to get the podium.
What a roller coaster of a race. Heartbreaking to see Lando Norris lose out so much, but cool to see Max and George storm through the field at the very end.
@@adibzainulzaky his engineer wasn't firm enough like bono. Bono repeated multiple times to lewis to box so he did, unfortunately land never got the call they only asked him questions. I think McLaren should've taken their responsibility as the team and as the engineers that have all the information to call him in instead of listening to lando.
@@scully2671 they had information about the Rain, so they asked lando, wanna pit? Cause he should say how the track is. If Lando Pitet everyone would have said "Lando is GOAT, pitted in the right moment" and no one would have cared that it was Maclaren who told him. But in this situation it is Lando's fault.
@@oldcrawfish5008 I think it's both their faults Lando should have listened a bit more and the team should've talked more in the end it's disappointing and we can't do anything about it. But I still think the team should've have called him in like bono did with Lewis.
This season is showing how exciting f1 can be when cars are closer in performance and not dominated by a single team, hope this continues in the future.
Even if you bring the w11 from 2020 to 21 you will still get thesame result........the rain is just the one doing the job and max and Lewis crashing nothing new!
@@rodrozil6544 dude! Are you new to the sport! This isn't only about Honda....... Adrian newey package is a class above any one else...... That's why red bull is the fastest car and they are losing this ain't about exciting championship because it is not exciting to red bull because they've got a dominant car from Bahrain to Austria apart from Portugal and Spain but still behind that's PAIN! THE mclaren is also quick proving the Mercedes PU in it including the Williams.... They ain't bad cars......this season is only excited because Mercedes can't win races like before either team error or driver Lewis in Baku, Mercedes in Hungary monza Max ham crash....... So that the main reason red bull should be invisible with the car they have
Well, consider it a training before the new Russian circut. Igora Drive is close to Saint-Petersburg, and this city has a very predictable weather forecast : wind and rain. Except for winter, it is wind and snow then :)
Carlos just overtook Leclerc in the driver's standings, in his first year with Ferrari vs a extremely talented guy who raced there for years. Isn't that worthy of an applause?
Sainz WILL challenge the other contenders for the title if Ferrari is a top contender in 2022. That man is forcing Ferrari to be a two driver team. F1 needs to put respect on his name.
@@jongascon7172 unfortunately British media doesn't care for anyone, just British in general and vaguely some USA people. They act like they are the center of the world
@@SRD-hn7vx how is that being hurt or how is it going to hurt me? I'm not even a top Formula 1 driver who British media goes against. I'm just speaking about how British media is like that, in Formula 1 happens a lot specially with British drivers, like when Hamilton and Alonso were togheter in McLaren.
Wow, they didn't even mention that Max advanced from 20th position to 2nd place. If it was LH who advanced 19 places, they'd dedicate two special episodes just for him.
@@mrprincemusicandgaming no, this started in 2007 already. When McLaren and Ferrari were both fastest teams. He received a lot more publicity before he even appeared on the grid. If I saw the same treatment for George Russell, when he appeared, and if he was also given the fastest car, then I'd believe it was just British bias. But this is a lot more than that. In fact, after 3 years Russell still has one of the crappiest cars on the grid. And he's making miracles in it.
i don't know how you live your life, but i don't pat myself on the back for "nearly" doing anything. i certainly don't care if alonso "nearly" did something
@@Kevinschart Well I don’t know you live your life either, but Alonso is a x2 wdc, and you’ll always be a bitter troll. I doubt he cares much for you either with his accolades in this sport
I mean he was p7 then Leclerc spun, Lando did a whatever he did, Alonso Perez pit too late and lost a million hours. Great strategy and timing to go for the inters, he has the opportunity handed to him but most importantly he was there to take it.
@@playingdoge7407 same as now, nothing was pre-emptive, the Ukraine offensive was a counterattack against the Donbas forces of the DPR. You want proof, look anywhere, Ukraine is an open book, freedom of speech, cameras everywhere, news everywhere. Better than Russian leadership who are arresting people for telling the truth and are stopping the flow of information.
indeed, from point of infrastructure this one of the best circuit in the world. it's not a track problem if recent cars can't sit on rear wing. f2 and f3 have nice races, especially because of really wide track which hold 4 cars in a row.
I'm glad Ive watched this one live. Thrilling battle for first between Hamilton and Norris. Heartbreak for Lando, historic win for Hamilton, and my oh my, P20 to P2 Max.
yes have fastest car starting grid not mean anything. bottas did fine too right? last race lol even team only think lewis points. reverse grid for start no qualify. means lotsa overtaking and action. and start pole lewis be on lead full race is history. boring 8 years been
Well, this might be one of the best seasons in our lifetime, when even the most boring track on the calendar gives us an insane racing experience. And thankfully the title fight is still very close. Fell bad for Lando however. Way to go, young man. You'll get there.
I don't feel bad for Lando. I started the race saying "he's always such a nice bloke" ... but by the end, the was he was handling his radios, the attitude and the shouting, I was glad he lost
@@RealDarkBlade shut up mister perfect be in his place with his stress you ll see blablabla keyboard warriors yurkkk too much people like you all over internet
Verstappen took engine penalty and finished 2nd... Hamilton has yet to take his penalty, I'd say Verstappen gained more today even with Hamilton winning.
THEY ALL CHEATED WITH 1.5 LAPS TO GO TO GIVE MAX P2! As soon as Lewis takes lead, the red sea parts and Max Jumps from P2 to P6 WITHOUT CONTESTING 1 SINGLE DRIVER!!! F1 Has become a sham!!!!
Was so amazingly staged. The rain coming either ruined their staged plans, or Lando was going to trip up in the dry at the end. Either way, was so scripted and pathetic. Since Michael Masi became the race 'director' they have become ridiculous and unrealistic. The clue is in the title of his job name.
Not the ending we hoped for, but the qualifying was an absoloute madlad out there! Im really sad for Lando... Winning a pole was definitely something he could have gotten this race but we all make mistakes... Always need to look up and push on forward. His win is definitely coming!
To be fair, both of them were stuck in the DRS train for quite some time despite having faster cars.. Lewis behind Riccardo and Max behind Vettel/Gasly... But yes their experience helped them take a right call when it mattered at the end.
Lewis and Max are so inseparable. When Lewis gained the win in the wet, Max also gained even more positions and points. They even came to the pit on the same lap - in and out... Very interesting Championship between them.
@@ExitiumNL That... actually. I wonder if Mercedes was covering him, then. If Hamilton hadn't pitted on that lap, then Verstappen actually would've gone from 20th to a win.
@@ExitiumNL I was referring to the first pit stop, they both pitted on lap 27. Soon after HAM left the pit box, VER came in to his. Watch the highlight, you'll know what I mean.
@@n8pls543 Merc did covered VER, they told HAM that VER came in for inters on the radio. In fact, I think they always have one eye on what VER is doing.
yup i was going crazy when i saw in the standings that he got ahead of perez for p3 at some point between those crazy final laps (which obviously was missed by the broadcast. excusable though given the crazyness that was going around). and idk what happened with him afterwards when the weather flipped but i'd guess he chose to gamble and stayed a bit longer on slicks or just had bad timing on the pit window. but im feeling his moment will come soon :))
Yea straight lining on the first lap. Then when he overtook Checo he lost it again but this was when the rain came down. Checo overtook him and Sainz so if there was no rain the final podium would have been Norris Hamilton Checo.
He’ll get his one day. It’s already impressive with how he quickly adapted to his new car, so he’s definitely gonna perform better next year, if Ferrari delivers tho lol.
Such a bad call. The team knew, they should've forced him in especially if Mercedes were doing the same. They would've seen Merc crew get ready in time to call him in. Disappointing from Lando, he only has himself to blame really. But he will learn. 2-3 years he will be fighting for championship.
@@Harvles93 yes honestly... Mercedes ordered and forced a 7 time world champion against his decision... McLaren should've done the same because they have all the data and weather forecast... Lando can't see any of that
@@abirgaming1502 To be fair, if it didnt just start going crazy within minutes, he would've definitely been able to stay ahead. But as you have stated, he doesnt have the forecast data, the team definitely should've forced the move, even when they came on radio they seemed to be very reliant on Landos decision. Seems odd to me but they definitely have learnt a major lesson here. Not long ago did something similar happen to Verstappen when Hamilton pitted for inters and won. A few races later, the opposite happened. Its part and parcel of the game but Mclaren should've taken Mercedes forceful decision as their que.
2nd place must feel like winning the lottery for Verstappen & Red Bull - they served 2 penalities, finished 2nd after starting from the back and now have a new power unit
Imagine if the team didn't push Lewis to pit in the end and insted listened to Lewis who wanted to stay and he and Lando stayed on track..Max would've won from the last place lol
I think his start was more detrimental. He had the best start of the entire field and would have had P2 if it wasn't for Russell stopping out of nowhere
I don't usually cry when I see events like that happen in F1, but that one got me. Gut-wrenching seeing Lando out like that, but at least he didn't crash out.
Carlos Sainz is the definition of underrated Man performs spectacularly every weekend consistently but always gets overshadowed by other dramatic stuff happening. He has literally never won DOTD in his whole 7 years in F1.
True. I feel like the TV coverage contributes a lot to this. He had some spectacular drives while at Mclaren which most people didn't get to see. I was hoping the story would change in Ferrari but it is just not happening. Mclaren is getting more coverage than ever as well as the Aston Martins.
Congrats to HAM on 100. That # won’t be beaten for a decade or two. Insane drive from Max from 20 to 2. Underreported story of the day. Lando will turn 22 in a month or two. He has a long career ahead and many race wins in store.
THEY ALL CHEATED WITH 1.5 LAPS TO GO TO GIVE MAX P2! As soon as Lewis takes lead, the red sea parts and Max Jumps from P2 to P6 WITHOUT CONTESTING 1 SINGLE DRIVER!!! F1 Has become a sham!!!!
Am I the only one who feels that Red Bull is completely forgetting the Constructors Championship in the hunt for the WDC? ANOTHER terrible pitstop for Perez and a delayed change to the Inters meant Bottas finished in front of him on a day where he really didn’t deserve it. Perez honestly drove a solid race today which was completely destroyed by the team, and now they’re trailing Mercedes by 33 points on a day where there should have been a huge swing the other way.
They are having terrible pitstops after the new rules. Last race Max had a terrible pitstop. The worst thing is the new rules are absolutely ridiculous.
I wouldn't say they were preferring one over the other this race or sacrificing him for the WDC. Yes Perez had a terrible pit stop, but the same happened to Max last time. I also don't see how the late switch matters as I don't see how Max's performance impacts that decision in any way (it was a gamble that went wrong, but not doing one over the other as Perez had no way to reach Hamilton anyway).
yea tbf in the beggining i thought mercedes were fluffing the chicken but when the rain fell redbull were asleep with perez and verstappen was on the right lap on the inter and did some overtaking to get p2
Tough call with the weather at the end there, it honestly could've gone either way. If the rain is slightly lighter for 1-2 more laps Lando wins that race and would've looked like a genius for staying out, instead the opposite happened. Verstappen getting second from last place is also noteworthy.
Worst case second place and points. They had about a 50 sec lead over 3rd. Once he slid off the first time. Bring it in and bring it home get these pints and a podium. The team failed him.
That is why you can't get ahead of yourself it is still a team sport and the team advised and he refused , i can't believe he did that considering he would have the advantage even to come in after experiencing the car losing grip.
