Uncontested ran out of gas down the stretch, looked great in the slop a few weeks ago, his talents may be best utilized as a miler. One Liner is for real though, he's got a late kick that reminds me of I'll Have Another, very fast winning time for the distance, a serious Derby contender, no doubt.
Uncontested, for some strange reason, carried the MOST WEIGHT, 122. One Liner was given 17 lbs. at 115. That might have made a difference, but not explained h is terrible loss in 6th place. Tire? He should have tired on a WEST track like in the Smarty J. Not on a dry track. One sixteenth of a mile more is nothing to a horse like this. Something happened. I'd like to know.
Johnny The problem of Uncontested is much deep than "he ran out of gas". He ran a mile, in good fractions, in the mud, won easily by 5 lengths beating Petrov. One sixteenth more is 6 seconds. On a dry track. Finished sixth.Petrov passed him this time. But he looked good. Something went wrong. I hope the owner and the trainer can put their fingers on the problem. He is a beautiful horse, but winning a race, then losing a race is not the way to go. Consistency is the way. If they plan to run him next in the Arkansas in April, that is really stupid. He needs to be raced MORE, allowances, whatever. He needs more experience racing against other horses. And don't always bring him to the front. Let him stay back in second or third. He has much talent. He needs a good trainer and owner.
Uncontested gave both Petrov and One Liner SEVEN pounds. He had 122 on his back, and they had 115. Not being a weight for age event with older horses, I'm wondering why this happened. Could it be the reason he lost?
Very brave, which you want in a Derby winner, but took so long to get on top, my thought would be Belmont winner, not Derby. Irish War Cry still my idea of this year's Derby winner. Lookin at Lee also ran a good Belmont trial....
One can only ask" What the hay happened?" In the Smarty Jones, Petrov tried to catch Uncontested in the stretch, but couldn't do it even though he was being race riddent war before UC. Now the same think happens, but Petrov runs right past UC, and into the home stretch UC fades to finish way back, 4th? Who knows? If he continues down this path, he is finished. Win one big, lose one big. This was really embarrassing for UC. What explanation does his owner have?
Well, I expected Uncontested to win, as did many, and he comes in 4th, 5th, or 6th. He looked so good in the Smarty. Maybe he is a mudder and the others were not.Unlike Exaggerator, he did not linger at the back, and then run to the front when the others were tired. He stayed at the front and beat em all easily. This One Liner won a MSW, that's it. Is he another Arrogate? I want to see them both race again. Instead of going to the front all the time, maybe the jockey should hold him back in second or third, let him save his strength. He did look tired around the home stretch, could not catch Petrov like he did in the Smarty. I can't find One Liner's pedigree. There is another horse named One Liner from Canada, born in 1998 and a filly. Maybe they should check the winner......
I tried to write to you from the other video but could not add my post. Uncontested looked good nothing seemed to be wrong but I wonder if he could be held back a bit to conserve energy yet a lot of horses pull when they are quick starters. He might be a mudder like Exaggerator but with a completely different running style. I would like to see them both race again to and the owners of Uncontested should not give up since this is early and only February. Holding him back I hope would work instead of letting take the lead. One Liner did well and it would be interesting to find his pedigree. I am going back to the other video to try to post my comment again.
It was devastating to find out about Royal Delta and Charismatic. The Royal Delta filly survived but she did not and Charismatic died from an aliment yet to be disclosed. I did not know about Royal Delta till yesterday. As far as the other three years olds which one to you like the best? I like Classic Empire and El Areeb Gormley .

2009 Well, I'm still going to watch him. I think he needs a better jockey. The present one is a relative of the owner. Funny, went right to Pedigree online to find out One Liners pedigree. Strange. I did find ANOTHER One Liner only. Canadian born in 1998 and a female. But this one had incredible pedigree, like Uncontested. Counter Fleet, even my favorite, Citation!!!!! With one of th e great sires of Court, Bull Lea,. Whirlaway's was Blenheim, and I've seen him several times in horse's pedigree. I am still weeping over Nyquist. I hope the owners look at the tapes and find out why this fine horse lost, and what they can do about it next time.!!!!
