I also don’t like race washing either. The thing is, it just shows how these producers don’t wanna make an effort to create original characters who just so happen to have different skin. Instead, they just wanna take another character and make them another color. As an African American especially, that’s frustrating to see. It’s a crazy epidemic.
I love you for saying this! There are SO MANY African-American role models, or SO MANY potential new Black characters that would be infinitely more interesting than this. There are also rich oral traditions in both Black American and African cultures that could enrich us all. Instead, we have to fight trans-lesbians-of-color over the meaning of the word "White."
@@benjaminlassmann5387 I 100% agree with what you’re saying. I’m especially yearning for more African warrior movies like The Woman King and Black Panther. Hell, I’ve yet to see a movie on traditional Mesoamerican culture, but mainly just non-race washed characters. Also, no same old plot lines where an African American character is from the hood and dealing with racism and what not.
