Rachel Zegler's Hunger Games Reviews BOMB Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes FLOP 

Rachel Zegler's The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is soon to be released. But first we have the early professional critics reviews and they don't like it either! Screen Rant desperately tries to spin the reviews as "mixed" struggling to even come up with 8 reasons why the score is bombing. From resisting urges about what to do with your own cup to pondering if the creators have a soul, these Hunger Games have it all. And while the movie may break even, I think we can all agree Rachel Zegler being unable to talk about the movie for 3 months definitely helped the movies public image. I still cannot believe she had the sheer audacity to suggest all of her co-star's scenes 'might get cut'. I cannot once recall big stars of the 90's-00's casually suggesting the entirety of a fellow actor's work on a film just 'might get cut'. Her ego is cringe-inducing.

The problem with Rachel Zegler is that she thinks she is a star performer and also thinks she deserves to be a star. Rachel's agent did an excellent job conning her into believing an absolute fantasy. What she needs is to actually be humble and actually work hard to deserve her right to fame!!!

Its amazing how much effort they put in damage control rather than actually making good movie

Well this is what happens when you combo an unlikable actor and bad script.

It's almost hilarious how we've gone from using movie stars to attract an audience, to using "stars" to repel an audience.

Hearing Rachel Ziegler talking about how she's trying to be the leader her father always knew that she could be as far as her portrayal of Snow White has me thinking that she's confused her role with that of Gerard Butler as Leonidas from 300 but without the melodrama.

I was hired as as "screenrant writer" a few years back. They give authors the title, and force them to write within the title. There is no actual creativity and writing. I lasted 2 articles, and made about $40 total. I gave up when the only topic available was about celebrity divorces.

The irony is that you could probably walk into a decent sized library, randomly pluck a book from the Young Adult section and with a budget of about £30m make a perfectly competent and profitable film. Would it make £1bn? No. But it might be something that would restore faith in the film going public and turning a profit would be a fun little bonus for them.

Not only did lotr come out and we fucking adored it despite its length, it proved that if you just give us more of that thing and its also great, well love it, because idk about everyone else but for me the extended version of that trilogy is absolutely the definitive version

At least with people that are skilled you can understand, if not approve, of their entitlement(s). With Zegler it is just baffling at every level.

The only way I would pay money to see this film is if Disparu was there giving live running commentary during the screening. That, I would pay for 😆

My wife, a huge hunger games fan has no desire to see it & she doesn't even keep up with pop culture. She said the story was over, no need to keep going.

the problem with all the hunger games movies is everyone looks ridiculously healthy but usually dressed poorly as if they were cosplaying .... but even then their haggard looking clothing is still of too high quality

After watching the LOTR extended versions I simply can't go back to the originals haha. Fellowship was my favourite of the theatrical cuts, but The Two Towers extended is just something else. The depth it gives to Boromirs character is just amazing.

I'm hoping Hollywood destroys itself and indie film can make a resurgence. There's a lot of good stories out there, not based on "The Message!"

I remember when the book came out (I didn't buy it) thinking "Do we really need an origin story for President Snow? Why do authors feel the need to humanise villains? Why can't villains just be villainous anymore without some tragic backstory that makes people LIKE them? We're not supposed to like villains!" Maybe it's lost on some, but the writing of Snow in the book trilogy, only emphasised by Donald Sutherland's acting in the movies, tells us everything we NEED to know about Snow for the story to progress. If we needed to know more, it would have been included in that trilogy.

Would disagree with Disparu on one point. No matter how good the movie is if it’s too long I probably won’t see it in a cinema where I can’t pause it to make a cup of tea.

It's like they just stick Rachel in as many films as possible hoping one of them will accidentally be good so they can call her a star finally.

I don't know which role did she get first, but I am kind of happy that big studios are making the same mistake twice at the same time, especially since it's a double slap to her never-existed career

I just listened to the audiobook and that little bow Rachel does imitating Katniz tells me everything I need to know about how she's going to portray the character, and that is not the character from the book. The girl from the book was basically Marylin Monroe, we know lil Raech aint that.

Metacritic has a more realistic review of The Marvels but is putting off allowing users to review Ballad of Songbirds. Wonder why?

It’s becoming obvious that Dinklage is a liability as well. His ‘Cyrano’ was abysmal despite the role being written specifically for him by his wife.

157 minutes is a 2 hour 37 minute long movie that no one asked for, wanted, or has heard about. Didn't even know they were making a new one and I try to watch every movie that comes out.

I have all the LOTR extended editions and theyre all worth it. Yeah theyre long but alot of what was cut had created unexplained plot points in the theatrical release.

I just remembered something when the topic of blaming and attacking the fans came up - yet again. Back in the day Halle Berry hat the dignity and balls to personally receive the Golden Raspberry for Catwoman. I know that not everyone had so much grace and that some people also blamed the audience at times, but for the most part if a movie or show was bad, it was just bad, and things went on after they got some bad reviews. The difference to today is astounding, as people tend to point out for some time now: Hollywood forgot who they need to make money and be successful, so instead of taking a loss after producing a bad movie, they try to spin it.

I told my wife that Ziegler was the only reason I don’t want to watch it, I just don’t want to spend money on movies anymore I typically read the books before watching the movie and in the case of hunger games I broke that routine and when we got to the last two films the story felt really rushed, not sure if the books are any better. I even told my wife “if (this other writer) had written the books and movie we would’ve gotten a lot more detail about the snow and the politics of the hunger games, and it would’ve been slower with move and counter move”

Just as an FYI, it's pretty interesting that Zegler was offered the role of Lucy Gray in "The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes" back in January 2022 but turned it down initially. She "changed" her mind and re-accepted the role later on in May 2022...weird, weird...

Zegler & friends did the impossible and got people (who arent me) to miss jennifer lawrence. Reminder, that lawrence is the same person who disowned family for not having the same politics as her.

I must be a glutton for punishment as I have all three extended editions of LotRs. I also have the extended editions of The Hobbit as well. I have the four hour Quo Vadis movie. I've sat in front of the TV and watched the four hour The Ten Commandments. When you bust your butt to make something a memorable classic of a fantastic story people WILL sit through a long movie (a very long movie). I once sat through a Beatle mobie marathon so length of movie doesn't mean squat unless the movie is crap. Then even 90 minutes is a soul crushing, mind numbing form of torture.

This absolutely terrible media is going to turn Az into the Joker which means Disparu is destined to become Harley Quinn.

You have a point about really good shows you can praise and really bad shows, like Robyn Hood, where it's entertaining because it's so insane and baffling.

Katniss' Story in the trilogy was about love and family, creating new bonds that help stop you from drifting down into the dark like her mother did. Lucy's story in the prequel novel is about trust and survival. Snow's story is about returning to 'power' and prestige, and the costs for both. Romance has always been a secondary, but still pivotal sub plot to all of these characters. It did not define them; Snow and Katniss both started with zero interest and even scoff at the idea of love because they have their respective families to look out for. But it did influence many of their critical decisions later in the stories. That is why he knew he wouldn't be convinced about the love affair in the Games...until he was, and he knew before Katniss did that she really loved Peeta. Hence why he was held prisoner. Katniss married Peeta because she needed his gentle warmth to combat her ferocious coldness, not Gale's viciousness and rage. Snow married someone he knew he could never love because he knew real love and was afraid of how it can make a man lose his focus and risk himself. Lucy inadvertantly taught Snow the most important lesson he ever needed, and that was to feel true love for someone else for the first time. He resisted as hard as he could. He even made distance more than once when he suspected she was actively playing with his mind. If anyone reads the books and stops whining about the surface level nuances, they would see a much more intricate parallel that makes the prequel NOVEL work well and actually see the real message in the stories. Trust, Hope, Survival, Love and Family. All of these play major points to many of the characters in the Hunger Games series. Those are the messages the series was trying to portray...but nope. Everyone only thinks emotions and bad romances is what makes the world go round in these movies. Movies are always going to be crap if the book is not respected as it clearly wasn't in the making of THG:TBoSaS, as it was for the trilogy series.

I really liked the book, rooting for Snow was easy and watching his descent into corruption was entertaining. I never once thought that Snow was a good guy, just that as a villain I could understand his viewpoint. Of course, I did never root for their "romance" just seeing it as two people trying to manipulate each other, and I was honestly quite happy when she disappeared (and in my opinion is dead) in the ending. Anyone wanting the book to be a romance would be quite wrong, but if Hollywood tried to make this book a romance after they tried to make the first book a romance (which it wasn't) then the movie is of course doomed to be bad.

My Sister really likes this book/movie series. She is really a big fan but she really dislikes this movie thanks to thinking it is alongside the book it is based off purely a cashgrab

I was discussing upcoming movies with my lady and I was trying to remember the name of this movie. I accidentally called it “Song of the snake-birds”. Seeing all of the fallout made me think of that for some reason and wonder if that mistake alone has more potential than the actual book. Some kind of poignant tale about the history behind all of the hybrid mutations.

I've actually read the book. The characterization of Snow (who's the point-of-view character) is not masterful, to put it nicely. She was trying for "Catcher in the Rye", and she didn't succeed. It wasn't terrible, but I found myself occasionally wondering what was going on and for what reason.

It is over for Rachel Zegler of being a actress. There’s no studio hires her anymore. Only because of months ago. She’s being narcissistic and full diva. She needs to stop the way she’s being acting by hating all men. Rachel is not one true Snow White. There are lots of actresses throughout time whom took the part of Snow White. Character and story, Disney doesn’t not own it. The Grimm Brothers wrote their own version of Snow White centuries ago. The story met for everyone to share, but not to own. The CEO of Disney, Bob Iger doesn’t owns the story and characters. Any studio can make their own stories of any character from books from centuries ago by any author.

I really liked the movie tbh. Mostly bc the actual main character, he was an absolutely great actor. She was a good "side" character that I could see obvious trying to make her better than him.

On one thing I disagree. You can get people engaged in bad fights, but you need to make them actually care about the characters before the fight, and/or make them somehow feral (you know, like a guy swinging with no technique but never stopping). They seem to have managed to miss on both...

This is really sad cause I read the book and actually liked it. And despite Jenny's stupid statements I still enjoy the first Hunger Games series. So it's sad to see this go this way.

I have not been to a theatre to watch a movie in over 10 years. I have a nice huge smart TV to watch my movies on. No high prices, bathroom close by, ability to pause or rewind and much better snacks as well as adult beverages. The same goes for professional sports.

Lol the fact that the movie makers were heavily involved in the creation of the book makes so much sense. I feel like the exact same things happened with Twilight...hmm....maybe a movie adaption is coming soon....

I had the misfortune to sit through the remake of West Side Story. While I can't judge Zegler's voice in the raw since it's obvious she's been pitch corrected to Puerto Rico and back I have my doubts about her vocal talents. I'm sure she can carry a tune but so can rather a lot of people. At least Natalie Wood was charming in the role and in person, and they had the sense to overdub her singing with Marni Nixon.
