This performance needs to be archived and placed in the National Museum of African American History and Culture so future generations can see just what real singing looks like.
You saw that too?!?! She was IN the audience...singing for THEM......making it personal. It wasn't about doing dance moves and acrobatics for a show. She simply sang for the people, and BOY, she sang the HELL out that song!
When she hit that high note, if I wore a wig, I would've snatched it off of my head and swung it around like a helicopter propeller. If you don't think that this woman sang the HELL out of this song- then you don't like collard greens!
Wow my sista I nearly fell out my chair that range, octave, pitch OMG!! And interacting with the audience holding it all together the same time and I can't forget standing ovation
She sang with full authority, control and CONVICTION as if she was sending a message from the Almighty that He has not forgotten about us. Her vocal gifts and abilities are unrivaled, God-given and not to be denied. This queen wears her crown proudly.
I could not stop laughing when she hit that whistle register. Not that it was funny & that I didn't take her singing seriously because she is, hands down, one of the most underrated gifted singers. Her hitting that whistle register definitely gives me the chills.
I know this is hella old, but her and Lisa Fisher were sooooo under rated!!! Along with everyone throwing their shoes, I damn near threw my phone!!! Hell I stopped holding my breathe after 5secs😂
Mizz Jacks Lisa Fischer wasn’t underrated. She chose to be in the background and stay there. She didn’t like being in front. The only reason why she’s doing it now is because she has too. Luther passed, Tina Turner retired, and The Rolling Stones aren’t touring. They were the ones she toured with
Rachelle Ferrell arguably has the BEST octave vocal range EVER; UNDOUBTEDLY she is ONE of my TOP 10 BEST vocalist in both the 20th and 21st Century! Suffice it to say, we can all agree to disagree; yet for a vocalist to proceed to briskly walk up 5 stairs, stride across towards the other side of the stage, then bounce and rock with it as she maintained this powerfully strong note for 26 solid seconds is absolutely phenomenal...(count 'em if you have nothing better to do) lol... I never tire of this song nor this video... UNDENIABLY RACHELLE FERRELL'S IN A LEAGUE OF HER OWN!!!
Yes, when I see and hear Rachelle; ONLY THEN can I even dare say: *Whitney who? Mariah who?* THAT SAYS A LOT BECAUSE BOTH OF THEM ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST & RACHELLE SURPASSES THEM BOTH!!
This was almost effortless. The control she has of her voice, the stamina and strength, and being able to nail that whistle while mingling with the audience as if it was nothing but a thing. Only a true singer with a true voice could have pulled off something like this. This was one of the best Showtime at the Apollo performances ever. Rachelle is one of the best voices of our time.
DAMN! She does not play on stage! She be holdin' and extendin' the hell outta those notes. She never gets winded. So unique and distinct. Nobody sounds like her. I can't front, her faces have me rollin'.
I don’t understand why isn’t she worldwide known for her range, her longevity and her control over her voice. Damn this girl deserves way more than this
She is known worldwide. She’s not worth the promotion because I don’t believe she get down with what they’re doing in the industry. Remember, you only go so far until you decide not to open either one of the three doors! She probably just walked away. I tell you what though she should promote local shows and still make her money.
I just had to stand up like my grandma would, with my hand on my hip......and give her the nasty look.... and say "come on girl and sang that song like its pose to be sung honey yesssssss"!!!!!!!
What I loved about the Apollo is the audience were not polite and gentile, they were tough to please. So Rachelle getting them on their feet was an amazing feat. Man she's incredible
NEVER in all my life have i EVER heard singing that flawless...OMG, SHE'S AMAZING!!! This has got to be one of the absolute GREATEST perfomances i've ever seen...MY JAW IS ON THE FLOOR RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember the night this aired - she shut down the apollo and left the mic smoking and it's still smoldering to this day... thanks for posting this and the reminder of what an awesome talent she is
Who else saw the power of that whistle note make that woman in the front row throw her hands up and spring out of the seat at minute mark 3:51? Only SANGIN' can make a person do that! LOL
Yes girl, YASSS!! That girl pulled it, and creased the phuck out of everybody's face @3:50. Yes mam, she did that shat! My God, her vocal range is BEYOND AMAZING!
Let me just say this. After watching this masterpiece performance, I don't need to see any other TV performance. Rachelle has set the bar extremely high. She gave me everything an artist can give a watcher. She hit 42 different notes in 1 song. I'm going to her planet.
A true legend. I remember since grade school singing her songs, while walking down the halls of school. She has survived so much, but keeps it real and remains humble. Love you Natalie always.
Simply Crazy Range....Wow the Whistle Register.....Her Voice is a pure Instrument.....My Moms love her and Phylis Hyman......Man just a pure 💎..........
The note she hit at 3:40 is iconic to me right now bcuz I had showed the video to my mom but right after she hit that note I went to wash something in the sink and the sink hit the same note and I was like "Damn it's the same note"
Weena Bus Company Yup and she has many more weapons in her arsenal to defeat her like scatting, yodeling, beatboxing and holding 30 second full chest notes 😭😭😭😭💀💀💀💀
Brutha Dnubian that is really annoying. I'm sure there are greater vocalists than the Trinity's but they had their own style. Her technique is more than solid but I doubt many audience members bought her album and genuinely liked it
Brutha Dnubian she puts her finger in her ear so she can actually hear herself because she wouldn't be able to hear a whistle over all the music / crowd sounds, Rachelle doesn't have to do it because hers is louder since it isn't even a whistle it's just very high falsetto
I've seen Rachelle Ferrell more times than I can count and no video I've ever seen has been comparable to seeing one of her live shows. She transports you with her spirit and her voice to a place that is somewhere not of this earth.
That one black lady was roooting for her b4 the scream, she has an excellent range and the black folk were living for it 👍 I would have loved to be there front row
Love this woman.... met her personally 3xs. the first in NYC at THE BLUE NOTE.. and to say I lost my damn mind is an understatement.... that lady just took my breath away.... and she still does....
These were the days I actually loved watching SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO....Back then, you had true artist, who could actually SANG, and give us pure soul and R&B...I feel so sorry for this young generation now, they have no one that can compare or sing like this.....
