Liszt: i paid for the whole damn piano, imma use the whole damn piano Rachmaninoff: *_these keys are soaked in the blood of the innocent you can hear their screams in the chords_* Chopin: sometimes fun, kinda depressed. I don't know for sure how this is set up but I'm fairly sure that there are actual lights that are triggered when he hits a note. And the other visual stuff is done in post. However I am intrigued and I want to know if you have to hand activate each note for the particle effects in post, or if you have somehow used some sort of midi to trigger the particles in post so you don't have to do it by hand.

Sara Dickson something like synthesia but likely a more professional variant. What is more curious is if the notation particles are being displayed on an actual physical screen placed horizontally on top of the keyboard, or if the particals and the lighting is added by an video effects software... The latter sounds a bit unlikely altho it would be more impressive. Could be neither, what do i know.

It's SW, the visualization is done using after effects. The LEDs on his keyboard is done using an arduino that connects to the midi and he slides it up to look like it's built into the piano

From 0:58 to 1:46 the right hand goes up 3 1/2 octaves and it’s so natural. And then we see the hands go up 3 octaves in 10 seconds starting at 2:00! There was something wrong with Rachmaninoff; he shouldn’t have been allowed to be that good.

all those trash talking stupid people saying this isn't difficult lol... I can say that I still like Lugansky's interpretations the most, but this is absolutely awesome, crisp, CLEAR, relaxed, you can see pianist totally owns this piece which basically means he's at least like "one level higher than the difficulty of this piece". And believe me, Chopin etudes are nothing compared to Rachmaninov. I would even say that Liszt Transcendental Etudes are easier to play, there's not much music in them, while in Rachmaninov etudes you have still top difficulty + musical demands like tons of counterpoints, double-melodies etc... This particular piece is one of the most difficult pieces to play. And to the question of how many hours do you need to put into it to play like this? Depends on intensity, talent and leadership you have, the goal isn't to become a world-class pianist in the shortest time possible, but to become the best pianist in any time it takes - for you personally, to be able to play pieces you like the way you wish. The more you know, the higher demands you put on yourself. Thus, some say that mastering something takes at least 10 000 of hours. I really doubt that works for piano, it's probably a long time ago I did my 10 000 hours and I still can play just a few of Rachmaninov etudes and not even remotely being able to do this one. I'd say something like 4 years of net time could be it. Also don't forget there are many asian pianist who play like machines at the age of 15. But there's a reason why you always rather listen to Lugansky, Pogorelic etc. pianist that had some life and that have some feeling to put in their play. You want to hear human playing the piano, not organic machine.
@sergeirachmaninoff5989
@sergeirachmaninoff5989 6 лет назад
Chopin's etudes are nothing compared to this one? You have no idea what are you talking about.
@geuros
@geuros 6 лет назад
I know pretty well what I'm talking about. With all respect, Chopin études are more or less easy for skilled pianists. Of course, difficulty is high, but every single of them is focused on just one technique, which makes them relatively easy - you need to go high end with that technique, but it's just one and they're short. I have played some and yes, some are difficult, namely 10/1, 10/2, 25/2 or 25/6, these are killers. But again, it's just one technique. Once you master it, the rest of the étude is piece of cake, it's just endurance test which don't last too long - usually 1:30 and you're done. Rachmaninov etudes are much more complex in the music part, and as technical studies they usually require more than one technique to master and often require to combine them. It's like new dimension of difficulty - it's not necessarily more difficult, they're difficult in a different way which may suit some and not others. And they last longer. Honestly, I believe that Rachmaninov 39/1, 39/3, 39/5, this and 39/9 are greater than or equal to any études composed by Chopin in difficulty, while they are certainly much more demanding musically. E.g. 39/5 by Rachmaninov is almost shame to be called "technical study" or "étude", it's one of the biggest marvels of piano music.
@geuros
@geuros 6 лет назад
your opinion seems undereducated for me - I thought Chopin études were the most difficult things to be played when I was 12. Now as I'm 24 I can definitely say I can imagine mastering all Chopin études while not being sure about the same with Rachmaninov's.
@sergeirachmaninoff5989
