For my latest self-collaborative effort, and as a useful exercise, I have recorded both the solo and orchestral parts of perhaps my favorite piano concerto. Headphones recommended for the stereo effect.
Listen to more of my music, request your own transcription or arrangement, and purchase the scores of my compositions at my website: www.maxrandalmusic.com/

i['m glad you chose the ossia cadenza. There is something wild and savage about it. It is the center of gravity of the first movement. It's like a "black hole" in space: everything in the area is pulled toward it. No comforting rules of civilization apply: the force of that cadenza is primal, unstoppable, incomprehensible.

I can't imagine the amount of effort and time spent making this video... Not only learning the orchestra part and the solopart, and also play it together without playing it at the same time... Wow thats absolutely magnificent, great work! Deserves more views and likes!

Are you reading from the score for orchestral parts or a reduction? I'm amazed when I see someone play from the full score. Even so "bravo" for this video. I love Rachmaninov.

I use MobileSheets on a Surface Go. I actually use the Surface mouse as a pedal by clicking it with my foot to turn pages. (At some point I should probably invest in an actual pedal...)

@@maxrandal7405 "The Princeton Review also has ranked Vanderbilt the #1 “happiest” campus for several years in a row, demonstrating how much the community at Vanderbilt loves itself.". Great school for undergraduates since they concentrate on them without a graduate program yet. Clean performance of the Rach!

If I were you, I’d look at scanning or notating the orchestral part into notation software so you can play along with orchestra. I think the computer recognises where the piano is if a digital is connected and brings the orchestra in accordingly. Can’t say I know much about it as the only thing I have is an iPhone. It would be great if you could make a video on the process as I’ve only found one or two 👍

I prefer not to use a digital piano for these types of projects and enjoy the challenge of stitching the parts together myself, but that sounds interesting!

Why not add the d,e part from orchestra in the original after e,d,c# when the orchestra at 0:13?

The orchestral part weighs heavily in the balance. We want to hear the piano solo section clearly. Just remaster it so that the piano solo section projects more. Otherwise, fantastic job.
