Great, great, performance! The orchestra is really clear and on point (kudos to Maestro Gilbert and the members of the orchestra). Also, I can finally hear the piano the way Rachmaninov intended for it to be heard (IMO). Amazing performance by the pianist!
Conductor's conception sounds very good. Orchestra is, as always, on the top notch professional level, able to do whatever conductor artistically desires. Slow Non allegro works well because as a Non allegro it can be not only Allegro moderato but Andante, Adagio, even Largo, same as it can be Presto, or Prestissimo vivacissimo. Or just Allegro martiale e dolcissimo. I love the whole Rachmaninov's opus, all of his piano transcriptions, especially those of Bach - everything.
I marvel at the talent of some of my fellow humans. I know nothing of the technicalities of classical music. All I know is that I thoroughly enjoyed this magnificent performance. I am in awe of the creative genius who composed such a sublime piece of music. I am truly amazed at the talented individual performers and the wonderful skill they exhibit. (Just think of all the hours of practice.) I am very appreciative of the great conductor who brought it all together in such a powerful, moving way. Thanks for making this great performance available on RU-vid!
This is such a sweet comment - thank you so much! Makes our day. And yes! We are grateful too at these possibility to share these moments with you all!
Is classical music dead or slowly dying in the world of today?? I give you the Elbphilharmonie of Hamburg - costs be damned, they got it built. And for what, I ask? Taylor Swift? Lil’ Wayne? I don’t think so. I rest my case - for now, at least.
