Great video, mate. The racing etiquette for starts is something personal. You can't say to a lad to don't fight for positions or switch lines... but it's a matter of self-conscience... drivers must realize that they NEVER win a race in the first corner... but USUALLY people loose races in accidents in the first corner. So, as Senna used to say: "sometimes you need to go slower to be faster"... and them he almost killed Prost in a first corner lol

good video but I think you kinda got the torque hp comparison wrong. horsepower determines acceleration, never torque. A car with 200hp 150lb(petrol sports car) torque will have the same acceleration as a car with 200hp 350lb(diesel sports car) torque. Horsepower is just (torque*revs per minute)/5252 if you use imperial units. Think of a guy with legs that are twice as long but he only uses half the steps of the short guy. They still have the same acceleration and top speed. The only reason why cars with high torque often have slightly better acceleration, is because they have a flatter powercurve(steeper torque and flatter hp curve), where are bigger rpm range of the range you would use before shifting like a diesel car (say 1250-2000 decent horsepower. 2000-4500rpm optimal hp and 4800 is redline) gives you good power. Whereas high hp, low torque cars often rev up to very very high rpm and only get to their might be that 1000-3000 is almost no power. 3000-6000 decent power. and only 6000-9000rpm is optimal with 9500 being the redline. But torque on it's own does not mean better acceleration or worse top speed. Top speed if you have decent hp is almost entirely determined by aerodynamics and gearing
@viperconcept
@viperconcept 8 лет назад
I've always learned _The maxispeed depends on the max power. The max acceleration, to a fixed gear ratio, is reached at the max torque. The max torque rev is always less than the max power rev._ The maximum attainable speed depends on the capacity of a car, to oppose to the resistant force, which increases with increasing speed (wind, friction etc.). The max speed condition occurs when the thrust exerted by the wheels on the road in the direction of motion is no longer greater than the resisting force but is equal to it. Since the thrust of the wheels is always proportional to the torque transmitted to the wheels and the latter is proportional to the power transmitted to the wheels, it is clear that the most powerful machine can achieve greater speed because at equal speed of rotation of the wheels, the torque transmitted the wheels (power divided by the speed of rotation of the wheels) is higher, therefore also the thrust of the wheels will be higher. The torque developed by an engine is the force expressed by the motor at any given rpm, while the torque transmitted to the wheels depends on; - The torque of the engine. - The transmission ratio Then, it determines the acceleration. So, in equal ratio, the higher the torque, the higher will be the acceleration. Therefore, for the same ratio the max acceleration is achieved at max torque rpm. For maximum acceleration at a certain speed, you have to use the gear ratio that can be transmitted to the wheels the maximum possible power at that speed, so the torque transmitted to the wheels will be highest. For that reason cars with high torque at low rpm, will have a better acceleration than cars with the same power with low torque at low rpm. This happens because cars with high maximum torque values (typically diesel or turbocharged engines) begin to develop a strong torque before the other engines, and consequently also a strong power at a low rpm, thus having better performance. It is for this reason that in Racing competitions with power limits, teams are looking to have very high torque values at low rpm. I hope my english is understandable LoL ;P
@viperconcept
@viperconcept 8 лет назад
But, yeah "torque on it's own" does not mean better acceleration, as you said. But if we consider what I've said in my previous comment, torque counts a lot for the engine performances! My explication in the video isn't wrong, it's just (very) simplified to make it understandable to people who aren't expert in car/engineering. Maybe it could be considered wrong because it's incomplete. If it is so, I apologize.
@Goriaas
@Goriaas 8 лет назад
***** yes it could be confusing to people, as you said, as it's a bit too simplified. But overall it was very good video. Just as an advice, don't worry about making the video too nerdy and technical, I think most gamers will actually enjoy it! btw cheers for making your videos I enjoy them all

@shacharliberman5084

Hi. look, Goriass has it right, and you are incorrect. That's okay, many people were taught wrong about how torque is related to engine performance. Torque does not determines the acceleration, Power does. Power also determines max speed. (When the resistance to the car motion is equal to the car power - the car will stop accelerating). Power (measured in watts, or HP) is how much... power... the engine is generating. Power = (Torque * speed) / time. just as you are not claiming that an engine that runs in higher RPMs is faster - you shouldn't think that an engine that has more torque is faster (or accelerates faster, etc). If you have a lot of torque, but at 0 speed, then you have 0 output power and you're not going anywhere. same thing if you have high speed but 0 torque. F1 motors have (about) double the speed and half the torque of NASCAR motors. If that was precisely the case - both motors would have exactly the same output power pushing the wheels of the car. and if those two engines had the same power curves - (and they were installed in the same car) - they would accelerate the same and have the same maximum speed! to be clear viper said: " The max acceleration, to a fixed gear ratio, is reached at the max torque." that's wrong. and Goriass's comment explains very nicely how it really is. viper: (from the video) "The power (hp) is the ratio between the strength delivered by the engine and the time it takes to deliver that strength" - that's really wrong and misleading. as the definition of power has nothing to do with anything like 'the time it takes to deliver that strength'. I think you should put a couple of annotation boxes in your videos to tell people to go read about engine characteristics somewhere else. So that people don't get the wrong ideas from your video. what you said here, is exactly why people ARE talking about Torque! They have no idea what the number actually means, but they still ask the guy at the car dealership as if it were important! it's like you going into a car dealership and asking how high the motor can rev up! wow! 9,000 RPM? that's great! I'll buy this car...

I have to disagree with question 1's oversteer answer. You notice the oversteer when the wheel starts to want to rotate the opposite way, countersteering on it's own. When you get oversteer if you let go of the wheel it will rotate back on it's own, its a technique drifters make use of and they catch the wheel at a certain point to hold the slide.

please make video how to brakes with no abs.. i really stressed with this things...
@RyoooPT
@RyoooPT 8 лет назад
With no ABS, you can never brake hard, or the front wheels will lock. Brake relatively early by adapting the pressure to the brake pedal as you approach the corner. You'll want to apply the most pressure right at the beginning of your braking point, but never hit it 100%. As you approach the corner, slowly lift off the brake, feathering it, until you've hit a safe speed to do the corner without having to steer hard. At that point, release the brake completely and then feather the throttle to keep your momentum. Hopefully, viperconcept will be able to explain it better than I did. Cheers.

I dunno much about in-game scrpted laws , except :flags,cutting corners penalty.But simulation games , should have more restricted rules ...1) purposely causing a car crash , by driving I the opposite direction 10 hours ban from online races.2) pushing a car ( dive bomb) instantly losing 5 position on the track ,and flagged for the next 2 laps by the system the next , time you lose ur nerves the game will ban u from ur next 2 online races.3) Minimal requirements in therm of race pace to join specific online races exemple: Between 1-4sec from the fastest lap inducing players to learn the " game".5) more restricted entry level for online players exemple: You cannot use a 600hp car if you haven't completed at least 5 races with 250-500hp car .6) purposely stopping a car in middle of a track for 10 seconds results in , immediate magical teleport to the pitlane .7)players on their first 10 online races ar transformed into ghosts mode cars when they are about to hit a more skilled experienced player ( for the total duration of the race)preventing any loss of fun for both players and not punishing , the newbie for the lack of experience while driving , letting him learn and have fun.

I had the bad luck of my G25 breaking on me and are now stuck with my backup - Logitech RX, which unfortunatly has the gas and brake on the same axis. This makes that i cannot use brake and accelerate at the same time and sometimes miss braking power because apparently my right foot is still touching the accelerator a bit. ( just found that out yesterday ) It's near to impossible for me recover from oversteer. Maybe i should try to drive with shoes off..

Great tips Viper! The problem with starts usually comes from a lack of situational awareness. People tend to try getting to the racing line in the first corner without wanting to give space to other drivers. If I'm in the middle of a pack I usually try to get as much space as possible between me and the guy in front of me so that I have a chance to avoid carnage. If I'm in the outside lane I try to get to the inside even if that means giving up a position. When the usual crash happens you'll be able to regain that position anyway. I still end up wiping out at starts a lot though. Sometimes due to my own mistakes (braking too late) or because of angry babies ramming anything in their way. The most important lesson is that even after something like that happens you have to try to get back into the race because you still can recover if you don't have too much damage. Having to fight your way back can be the most rewarding thing in racing.

Can you explain how the 10% throttle gives better rear traction than 0% in a spin?
@viperconcept
@viperconcept 6 лет назад
Because at 0%, the engine braking brakes your car from the rear increasing the oversteer (making you spin). If you give 10% there's no engine brake giving you more stability on rear wheels.
@ZxTennent01xZ
@ZxTennent01xZ 6 лет назад
viperconcept alright cheers, I think I get it. So is it similar to not using heel toe in an H pattern?
@viperconcept
@viperconcept 6 лет назад
Yep, the principle is the same: you heel toe to rev match. If you don't rev match on RWD cars, the rear wheels would brake while down-shifting, making you spin.

hey man, i love your videos, i learned so much from you! i only have one small tip for you, try to not put your thumb around your wheel because if you receive force feed back strong enough in real life, you can injur your thum. If you're going fast on a turn and there is a crack on the road, since your outside suspension is compressed, that part of the car basicaly is the equivalent of a car with no suspension, so if the crack or the small pothole happens to go under your outside front wheel the forcefeed back will be very strong!!! and it could injur your hand, so be careful!

Some Champions holding the steering wheel: - Sebastian Loeb: photonews247.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Sebastien-Loeb-test-driving-the-PEUGEOT-208-T16-Pikes-Peak.jpg - Ayrton Senna: i.ytimg.com/vi/JUVkVB3SUf4/hqdefault.jpg - Ken Block: i.ytimg.com/vi/Rqth7Iy6jkg/hqdefault.jpg I know what you mean and I thank you for the tip, by the way that happens more with street cars and way less with race cars, because race cars have a lower steering degree. However don't worry: the force feedback of the G27/G29 isn't enough strong to hurt me. In 4 years I never get hurt. :-)
@Zakietos
@Zakietos 8 лет назад
yeah i know the wheel isnt strong enough, that's why i mentionned in real life. and even if champions are holding it that way. it doesnt meant you should, It shouldnt be held that way ESPECIALY in races because that's where accidents happen a lot and i saw several times an onboard replay of an accident and you hear the commentator say "that kind of feed back could have broken his wrist" and you really see the steering wheel move like crazy in the moment of impact. so it's your decision but i would recommend using the simulation wheel to get rid of that habbit
