"Raised steel covers for electrical receptacles" typically refer to metal covers used to protect and enclose electrical outlets (receptacles) in a raised manner. These covers are designed to sit slightly above the wall surface and provide a protective barrier around the electrical outlets. They are commonly used in commercial and industrial settings, as well as in certain residential applications where durability and safety are crucial.
The term "raised steel covers" emphasizes the material they are made of, which is steel. Steel is chosen for its strength and durability, making it ideal for protecting electrical outlets from damage and potential hazards.
The raised design of these covers serves several purposes:
1. *Protection:* The raised feature helps shield the electrical receptacles from physical damage, reducing the risk of accidental contact or tampering.
2. *Space for Wiring:* The raised design provides additional space within the cover, allowing for more wires and connections to be accommodated comfortably.
3. *Conduits and Devices:* The extra space can also accommodate conduit fittings and other electrical devices that may require slightly more room within the electrical box.
It's worth noting that different regions and electrical codes may have specific requirements for the types of covers allowed in various settings. It's essential to ensure that any electrical covers used comply with local building codes and safety standards. Always consult a qualified electrician or follow local regulations when selecting and installing electrical receptacle covers.

Really enjoy these type of videos. i like that you take time to explain the little quirks with even just a basic install. Makes me much more confident. Do you think elec tape is necessary in these installs? Thanks.

Awesome video and thanks for walking through all of those issues and options. Those tabs are definitely a pain. After seeing this, I'm pretty sure I used a mismatched box/cover combination and probably should have switched over to those 6/32 nuts. I used the rounded, new work boxes and covers that only have two holes for each outlet. So, the screw goes through the cover and the outlet... the tab/nut goes onto the screw... and the screw gets threaded into the tabs to hold that assembly onto the box. That's why I was breaking the screws. I had to get the tab/nut tightened to the back of the outlet, while also getting the screw threaded into the box, at the same time. if one or the other got tightened at different times, either the outlets were loose or the cover was loose. But as usual, I learned something useful from your time and effort in making these videos.

Will these raised covers extend the box for a pine tongue and groove installation? Trying to match the board thickness for a nice smooth install. They're typically a 1" x thickness difference that i want to bring flush and look good.

I came here because I was trying to figure out how to install these stupid covers with the bend off tabs. The one I got doesn't have a middle screw. It also has even smaller tabs that the screws don't thread into easily. Just awful. Why does Home Depot sell this crap? I found one at Lowes that includes nuts. Much easier to work with.

Fully agree. The screw and nuts 1000% better
