In wall shot leagues, there is no need for urethane.. all you do is screw up the lane for everyone else.. in competitive situations on tougher conditions where you are only worried about yourself, I say go for it 👍. Urethane can be a weapon when you need to control the backends

The only people that needs urethane on house shots are left handers(Sometimes). If I bowled more sport shots, I'd definitely have urethane, but I don't so I don't. I'd get a purple hammer or UC3 though.

The house i bowl at on wednesdays has almost no carry AT ALL. So many 10 pins. So i throw the purple hammer for that solid 2 piece combination. Allows for a bit stronger reaction and allows for better scores at that center.

Used urethane in hay day / 1980’s. Difference now is Oil type and oil machines, also lane materials. Started bowling 1973 competitively age 13. Remember out to 1 board to pocket from anywhere!!!! Urethane easily 10/12 boards more than other balls. Still have a black Rhino from 1985, it is 16 lbs. use 15 now. Ball sits on display with OG Lt 48 my favorite and first 800 with the Lt48.

Barks, you mentioned that your "new" Purple is now reacting much better and driving through the pins now that it has some play on it. Do you think the Double Cross will experience the same improvement over time? Is this because the coverstocks start softening up on these balls?
@jrproshop
@jrproshop 2 года назад
I think those urethane coverstocks just need to see some oil over time to get a true sense of how they are supposed to react
@nordattack
@nordattack 2 года назад
My question was really, what chemically is occurring in the Purple that makes it get soft so fast? Does oil penetrate it and break down the structure? Are cleaning solutions bowler's use breaking it down? I have a 2021 Brunswick Purple that I bought in July of 2021. In the time I have used it it has gotten softer and softer. I can scratch it with a fingernail now and it measures 68 on my durometer. Not even a year. And how the ball rolls changed dramatically. Now it glues to the lane were before it was pretty flat.

Nice comparison. Just a note : both are not true plain urethane because they have pearl additives (even though they don't have pores/plasticizer).
@20447Medic
@20447Medic 2 года назад
The double cross is pure urethane, no pearl additives.
@exesemas
@exesemas 2 года назад
@@20447Medic of course they have. That's why hammer never called the Purple hammer just "urethane", and that why it has a different ball motion than pure urethane. Like i said, they don't have pores/plasticizer. But they do have some additive, possibly mica which is the main additive of pearl. Thus the "pearl urethane" Hammer describes it with.
@20447Medic
@20447Medic 2 года назад
@@exesemas I watched the Radical FB live with Phil the other day and he said no additives and pure urethane. However the Radical site shows pearl urethane. Who knows?
@exesemas
@exesemas 2 года назад
@@20447Medic I did too, don't recall that part. But even if he did, he also said it is the exact formula of the purple hammer (only a tad harder), so...i am a bit cautious when i listen to companies that obviously want to promote something. They tend to exaggerate or omit things, or not talk very openly or clearly. It's all business. The thing is that there is also a semantics issue here too. I mean if someone defines "urethane" as anything that doesn't contain pores/doesn't absorb oil, then yes they are all urethane. But if you define it as something that contains neither pores, nor other additives, then they are not. For example you can add "mica" to a urethane ball....it will not behave the same way as without it....is it still "pure urethane" ? To me, no.

Getting my Double Cross today. This will give me 3 urethanes. The TruMotion (soft cover with the Magnitude 035 core), and the Tactic Control (rigid cover with the OG Turmoil light bulb core at 042). Urethanes certainly have their place and I won’t go bowling without one in my bag, because if I don’t I know darn well I’d need it! 😂 Anyhow, I didn’t have any issues when I got a urethane. Having the BTU solid at 030, and the 035 solid, the transition was very easy for me.

Being a 2 handed righty that likes to play straighter angles cuz the BEFORE 2ls layouts and the ball not hooking a lot. Finally was able to play with urethane without the ball wiggling or deflecting off down lane. So it was easier to transition to urethane than use reactive. Hard to switch back to reactive even with the 2ls layout and a benchmark ball hooking 30 boards :/ had to use a straighter layout to finally be able to hit the pocket even left of 4th arrow rather than throwing over thr left gutter with their benchmark layout.

I think it's a must have in the bag on the left side on patterns...out of curiosity if a lefty with a somewhat spinny release like Brando planned on purchasing either the Purple or Double Cross to use on a cliffed house condition for whatever reason, what urethane would be the better option?

Your definitely a good bowler as always I watch you and the rest of the team! But I find you did better with the purple hammer, when you did move left two time the dlb xx did move hard to the pocket. It’s a hard pick for me’ but I lean towards the purple hammer but I like the XX, but again the purple hammer did move harder to the pocket or say it was cleaner more continuous. Thank you more the video. I would but the XX as a lefty to play a tight line standing on 15 release on short patterns both of them will be in my bag w/2 different layouts XX PIN down? Excellent review and comparison! Not sure what is really Radical though about the XX. It uses a Purple Hammer coverstock made less "Purply" in power and the old True Motion core. I guess Brunswick forced Radical to add a urethane so they did the least possible to produce one. Sad. As to your questions: Smart tournament bowlers who want to have a chance to win need a urethane in their bag or they are definitely at a disadvantage. Belmo said: "I always have my urethane ball. If urethane is in play it can win the tournament." Being a senior bowler, I grew up throwing urethane exclusively, so there was no adjustment needed for me. Learning to use resin? Now that is a BIG adjustment for me!

Ya got it right with the Double Cross being cleaner, which I didn't really enjoy much. Black Hammer was just as early as the PH, just straighter downlane, which led to much less fear of it missing the breakpoint on sport shots, Plus it was 2-piece. If Hammer re-releases the black hammer, it's over for the double cross.

I quit bowling when reactive was first coming out, so urethane isn't a problem. At the same time I started with plastic, so as far as I'm concerned a bowling ball is a bowling ball and you learn to use what you have for the lane conditions. A bowler who can adjust to the situation no matter what the bowling ball is, is a bowler who will have more success than a bowler who can only play one style and relies on the ball to do 90% of the work.
@modellawns5203
@modellawns5203 2 года назад
Id habe to disagree on the stand that with the tech today. If you can match the right ball to your lane needs each time. You stand to bowl more consistant number. You can just throw your normal shot and let the ball make the adjustment rather than changing speed, angles, revs etc. A golfer doesnt have one ball but in your words can also make many things happen with each club. So a happy medium good player can adapt but a good ball for the right lane makes it that much easier to adapt.
@flippperboy
@flippperboy 2 года назад
In this day sometimes the ball does matter. I agree that you must execute, learn to change ball speeds and have different hand positions/rotation in the bottom of the swing but as the latest saying goes, “you cannot out bowl a bad ball reaction”.

Well I have a couple urethane balls, one I have 800 with, and the other that I never use because I save it for harder patterns and tournaments, and I end up using reactive because that's what I'm more comfortable with. The 800 ball is more of a urethane/resin mix in the Badger Infused, but the true urethane ball is an overseas Honey Badger Black urethane. Still trying to figure that ball out since the times I'd use urethane are very small, despite being a 2 hander with a lot of speed and decent rev rate. 9/10 times I'd rather go reactive

Granted I have not thrown any new urethane equipment but I always had an old blue hammer or AMF pearl cobra in my bag when I use to bowl competitively and had to leave the game for a bit. On a house shot I don't think it's really needed though.
