you know, the Germans had 30 programs in place to make Proximity fuses. Some of them triggered by hearing engine sounds Some of them triggered by electrostatic fields Some of them radio control by the guys on the ground but what they all had in common is they All sucked. But the US just upgraded the UK radar proximity fuse's they used in bombs to handle the extreme acceleration and stresses of a shell and in 1942 a 5"/38 gun on the USS Cleveland took out 3 high flying drones with just 4 shells. So much for German Engineering.
