@@simone_asleep9953 I'm genuinely excited for his solo album as well. And to the original point: never underestimate what Ed O'Brien is doing during a Radiohead song. Okay, maybe Bloom or 15 Step you can underestimate, but the rest of them... don't!

On a related note, they have a live compilation album on spotify called I Might Be Wrong, and if you liked the live version of Everything in it's Right Place here you will love the one on this one. Midway through, the voice changer literally turns the song into a wall of sound, and I'd wager it's the better version personally. It's certainly what I'd call an album killer (I can never listen to the album version of the song ever again because a live version is just too damn good)

Ed has said in an interview (That Pedal Show, on RU-vid!) that the only song of theirs that they use a backing track for when they play live is The Gloaming. That's it. (Also, he demos what he does during a few Radiohead songs throughout. The highlight is discovering what he does during Ful Stop)

Now that you've brought up the "is he doing this on the guitar", I highly recommend that you check out the interview with Ed O'Brien on That Pedal Show (available on YT) - not as a reaction, but as something that can show how all these atmospheric effects are achieved, such as the loop on Ful Stop and the entirety of Treefingers! Really showcases just how much you can do with a guitar (and pedals, obviously, but still). Plus, Ed is just a lovely, down-to-earth dude.

Tbh it would be worth doing King of Limbs (normal studio version) to more or less complete the set. I agree you'll probably like it the least, but nonetheless there's a few 'organic' tracks on there which will really butter your biscuit. And the more abstract ones are still of a style unlike that found on any of their other albums. As an aside, I also think you'd be shocked at how many of Radiohead's B-sides are album-worthy. Gagging Order, The Daily Mail, The Butcher, Fog (Again) live, Supercollider, not to mention all of In Rainbows disk 2 (I would do this before/rather than IR from the basement. You'll LOVE 'Go Slowly').
@chaosmos24
@chaosmos24 5 лет назад
I think the studio cut of The King of Limbs is underwhelming outside of a few tracks, but the From the Basement sessions for the same album and assorted b-sides is a revelation. One of their best 'albums' in my opinion.

To answer some of your questions, cos most fans who watched them live on the youtube videos pretty often might know this but as a first viewer it's obvious what they are doing here.. Ed (guy with the shaker) uses a custum guitar with a sustain mode so he plays some ambiants notes on idioteque but the main «pads» are samples took from a 70s electronic ambiant track and are activated by the bassist Colin on a keyboard.. As for the effects on Everything in its right place they sample live what Thom Yorke is singing and play with it on a kind of pad which i don't remember the name of.. They use so many effects live, they really are able to create unique ambiances. Glad to see you enjoy it
@Neorigg

PL le zèbre im pretty sure Ed was just recording the guitar loop that you hear at the breakdown of Idioteque
@officialpierluk
@officialpierluk 5 лет назад
@@Neorigg oh that's might be the case indeed, I was wondering why he was picking some notes during the close-up on his guitar. But I've seen him play ambiant notes during other videos of idioteque when the samples come in to add layers of sound. He customed his stratocaster during the Kid A Amnesiac sessions, and last year or so, Stratocaster with Ed have made a guitar with the sustain pickup like he made back then so you can buy a similar one, but i don't know the price :P Anyway, I know that for at least the 2001 tour, but recently, I don't know. It looks like what you describe, during the close-up of the guitar

Because Kid A and Amnesiac were written by the band trying different stuff on different instruments and computers and because there is a lot of post prod on these album, I think this bleepity bloopity era is really interesting live because they had to rearrange most of the songs a bit so they could be played by the band. Everything in its right is a good example as you see here with the bass line and real drumming. Well, I would recommand anything from the 2001 tour and there is a lot of this one on youtube and I really love the one live in paris, Idioteque is even more intense.. And not featured on this show, you have to hear the beautiful live version of Like Spinning Plate on piano on the I Might be wrong live CD..
