I just cannot explain how much I love everything Thom does, his music has saved my life several times 🤧🥺💖 and by your reaction I bet you know what I'm talking about and understand that feeling.
Glad that you didn't get spoiled by listening to the singles. After a couple of singles I decided I won't listen to any more singles from them, until the album comes out, and I think I made the right decision. I think the songs work way better in the context of the album.
I feel like The Smile is a band created for the songs that didn’t quite make the cut for Radiohead’s next album. While the songs are amazing, this album feels like a compilation of songs that they didn’t want under the Radiohead name but still wanted to market… again, because they are very good. The different styles don’t give the album a cohesive feeling which is my biggest complaint and why it almost sounds like a compilation. But it just makes me that much more excited for Radiohead’s next project. This one is really good though and I’d say their best out of all the side projects- and arguably better than a lot of Radiohead’s albums even though it seems a bit out of order and emotionally inconsistent. P.S.: Im really digging the horror synths ala Jonny. Hope to hear more of it on their next album.
This is a fantastic record, probably my second favourite of the year so far (only new Beach House tops it). I mean, being a Radiohead fan probably helps with enjoying this album more because as you said - it sounds literally like their project. I love nearly all the songs and to be honest Free in the Knowledge is one of my personal favourites. I just love that ending man, it could easily be one of my favourite moments from Radiohead discography.
Free In The Knowledge is my favorite song on the record, I didn’t get anything political from it. It sounds more like a song about accepting change and death. Even the genius annotations say the same thing. It’s also just overwhelmingly beautiful. This is why I don’t care about lyrics as much as other people. The melody and atmosphere created by the composition is more important to me. I’m right there with you that obnoxiously on the nose political commentary can be distracting but this certainly isn’t that. Give that song another try, it’s gorgeous.
Great review. I recently revisited your smashing pumpkins reviews. hoping your ready to continue the journey. love to see the adore reaction in the near future. followed by the machina 1 & 2. Completing the original lineup & their discography. Then it's pumpkins 2.0 Zeitgeist, Oceania, Monuments to an elegy, Shiny & oh so bright, CYR. lots of sights to see my friend.
Have you ever given Firehose a listen? If you don't want to do a full album, I recommend the songs Epoxy for Example, The Candle and the Flame, or Can't Believe. I would say go straight to the Minutemen, but Firehose doesn't get enough attention.
I am ok with the long lost Radiohead record I can never get enough of them and 9 albums anda lot of great b-sides is not enough. I do think however there a few songs that do not really sound like Radiohead and the drumming is quite different Phil is more of a foundation guy and Skinner is a much more active member type of drummer. I think when its all said and done I am going to really love this album and I will take anything I can get from them at this point.
Would you like to react to some Sufjan Stevens if you haven't listen to him? Michigan, Illinois, The Age of Adz, Carrie&Lowell are four goated beautiful albums from him
Tony, I BEG you to listen to Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana from Sheena Ringo. She is beyond amazing. That album is a treasure and will blow your mind, I swear. There's no genre I could use to describe it.
Love your videos! You should react to Velocity Girl - Simpatico or Smoking Popes - Destination Failure . Both amazing albums i thing you’ll enjoy! Cheers!
You should react to Women - Public Strain! They are like a blend of Sonic Youth, Velvet Underground type noisy riff based rock with incredibly atmospheric soundscape and sweet almost bubblegum pop melodies. Very influential in the underground scene!
I hope you would react to the band will wood and the tapeworms or now better known as just Will Wood I recommend his SelF-isH album and The normal album he is a very varied artist and I enjoy their music.
Hey Tony, I got you a song that I bet you re gonna love, it's Amusement Parks On Fire's Smokescreen, it's a really hidden gem, even if not a reaction, maybe give it a listen It's very shoegazy, noise poppy
I don't thinks this record would fit radiohead, we don't have 3 other members after all, so the tracks are not as complex as radiohead usual record is. And for me it sounds like a mix of all radiohead and thom yorke solo sound, we need smth ground breaking, new and creative for LP10, but not this, this is Radiohead doing side quests and I like it
I think you should react to Wilbur soot’s you’re city gave me asthma it’s pretty depressing album and it’s just acoustic guitar and vocals but it’s helped me with my depression I’m going through and I think you might like it
