This lp is so likable. True innocence. Every time I play this for someone they question the endeavor, but they always smile as well. Its memorable and it does express a naive philosophy that can be appreciated by a world that otherwise can seem out of control.
Raisans is my favorite on that album. You gotta check out this live version if you haven’t already. It’s so much better than the studio version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mbu4LWC6ukM.htmlsi=lFnyQrg5kbASYwKQ
you compared the album to White Pony but whats super cool, is that Chino said that he was inspired by this album to make White Pony, You'd Prefer An Astronaut is 1995 and white pony is 2000
hope you're doing alright bro, I know you haven't posted in a while, but I love the channel and I hope you continue to post more reactions. You are one of my favorite channels for music reactions, mostly cus you seem so genuine.
This is one of those albums where the first time u hear it, u seems like u already know it...thats rare...i cant even remember the first time i heard it because of that exact phenomena.
I remember when "Make Believe" just came out and was surprised by all the negative criticism. I think it is important to understand the context of what was going on with Rivers at the time. I think he just started deeply practicing transcendental meditation and that effected the overall tone of this album. I have always applauded Weezer for going in new directions, so "Make Believe" was a welcome change for me.
That's about right for me as well but those 7 songs I'd rather have than nothing. Those 7 go into the timeless bucket of their catalog. You should also do Machina album they started rocking more again in that one... but after that you could stop reviewing pumpkins albums imo. His solo album had like 2-3 good songs only as well for me but those 2-3 songs are also the kind you listen to forever.
Great reaction Tony. Its so cool to see the smile on your face when a new part comes in or chino starts singing haha. The guitar sound, to me its sounds normal now. But I remember on first listens its very distinct and unique, very raw. Not perfect production, but its adds uniqueness and charme^^
Love your reactions....interestingly Subbacultcha is one of their early tracks (think Surfer Rosa) rather than the last one The Navajo Know.....love all four of these (putting Come On Pilgrim in with Surfer)...
