🤣 Funniest comment! This was their first album after completing their 6-album recording contract with Parlophone. They definitely held some songs back that were too good for these corporate leeches.
15 Step 0:50 Bodysnatchers 9:00 Nude 17:02 Weird Fishes/ Arpeggi 25:43 All I Need 37:01 (Technically the song first plays at 36:12, but he goes back to nude for a bit so 37:01 is where the full reaction to All I Need actually starts) Faust Arp 45:29 Reckoner 50:36 House Of Cards 58:29 Jigsaw Falling into Place 1:07:46 Videotape 1:16:25
That's actually one of my least favorite songs by them and easily my least favorite on the album, and I am a huuuuge radiohead fan haha to each their own. Still think its great, but i only listen to it when im listening to In Rainbows front to back
Reno, that's the whole point. You don't need drugs when you listen to this stuff. Lie down in a dark room with headphones turned up and you don't need drugs.
@@cathyaldridge4550 I'm going to listen to in rainbows on shrooms in about a week, I'm really excited because listening to music while on shrooms has become one of my favorite activities recently. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone (as long as you are safe with the drug obviously) because it gives you such a different perspective on the music that you've listened to 1000 times previously, I've found new appreciation for some of my favorite stuff while on shrooms and I've noticed things I've never even noticed before.
@@timtaxevasion Listening to in rainbows on shrooms, the only way I can describe it is like hearing it for the first time again but knowing that you've already listened to it. Like when you already listened to your fav stuff and wish you could listen to it for the first time again? And then it actually feels like that while you consciously know you have listend to it but feels comepletely new lol
Here's the thing about Radiohead when you first hear them, they are different from any and everything. It's like hearing Pink Floyd for the first time. You think it's strange but not bad but it grows on you. What is great about their songs is that they add instruments and change the song around so much throughout a song that you may just like the song for one part, because it just does something for you. Definitely go to Ok Computer next. Their other albums are much more strange and a lot of electronics. I'm a rap head and each album has maybe 2 song i would bump. Ok computer is probably one of the top 5 albums of all time of any genre. And that's all one person on jigsaw falling into place. Thom is a vocal god. Goes from low to high and back like it's nothing
Strange and not bad but it grows on you is a great way to describe it. I ended up here randomly, and was surprised to find this was the first interaction with Radiohead. I can't imagine 15 Step being the first Radiohead song I heard (I love 15 Step of course, but for first exposure it seems a startling to say the least).
Radiohead definitely continued to grow on me over time, but honestly, it took me from the beginning of paranoid Android to the guitar solo, to go from ‘this is fucking weird’, to ‘no matter what this is, I’m all here for it.’ Some of the best music I’ve ever heard.
i've listened to this album so many times to the point where I almost can't listen to it anymore, but somehow it's so entertaining to listen to it with you dude And yes it's the same guy singing through the whole album. Thom Yorke.
This is the best reaction channel of all time. *Most beautiful piece of music ever created plays* *Reno pauses the song* "Hold on... He might cooking something here! *laughs* On foenem! *laughs* "He's really hurting type shit! ...DAMN! *laughs*"
you should see them play this shit live with their "From the basement" video. Reckoner, Nude, All I Need and Videotape are INSANELY good! You CANT miss out, my guy
Some trivia: - This was the band's seventh album and the first released after their contract with EMI expired. It was released as pay-what-you-want, where you could download it for free or pay whatever was right for you. - My theory for 15 Step is that the title is a reference to the plant Antiaris toxicaria, the poison of which is so deadly a victim can only take seven steps uphill and eight downhill before dying. What's 7+8? 15 Steps. - The band recorded the cheers of music school students for 15 Step. They wanted the kids to clap but the unconventional 5/4 time signature was too hard for the students to follow. - Nude was worked on for around a decade, starting during the OK Computer sessions. It was originally called "Big Ideas" by fans, as it was unnamed for many years. The final version was built atop the bassline written by Colin Greenwood. The intro is the outro reversed. - In Reckoner, background vocals can be heard at 2:49 singing "In Rainbows", which happens to be 61.8% of the runtime; the golden ratio. - Videotape is tricking you; the true downbeat is syncopated. The piano is playing half a beat before the downbeat.
I loved your reaction to something you were not expecting. I was so invested in you and wanted you to love this album as much as I do. Welcome to Radiohead. Don’t stress about your feelings toward the first 2 songs. When I first listened to this album I was like “meh” about Videotape - and now it usually has me in floods of tears. Great things have a habit of growing on you. Peace.
I agree with this. OK Computer is my personal favorite Radiohead album as a whole, and The Bends doesn't get enough love. Some of Thom's best vocals are on The Bends, in my opinion.
thats 5/4? i always thought it was 5/8. im not tryna correct you i swear btw, im new to this but this song's pulse feels too fast to be a quarter note.
Weird Fishes is one of those songs that sounds good at first but then the more you hear it the better it gets. Its a masterpiece on an album of masterpieces.
One of the greatest albums from one of the greatest bands to ever exist. You won't like everything they've done on your first listen, but it's all amazing.
As crazy as it is, the voice change in Jigsaw falling into place it just a pitch change. Tom is the only ead singer on this track hes just really talented.
Take my word for it lisren to it 5 times after the 2nd time you are like it's not bad then after the 3rd it's hey not bad on 4 it's like hey this is pretty damn good then on 5 your'e like this shit is genius I don't know how the do it but every time almost that's how it goes.
This is such an apt description of the process, though I would add to step 5, disbelief at your past self for not recognising the genius on the 1st listen 🤣
I could write about all of the songs meaning on In Rainbows but I want to tell the most relatable to me Nude. I think Nude is about that pessimist state of mind where you tell yourself it's not gonna go right, it's totally hopeless and it's "parodizing" it "You'll go to Hell For what your dirty mind is thinking" is where it all comes and it is purely ironic. The title Nude is also metaphorical it for me it basically means your insecurities your mind being "nude" and out of their comfort zone
Interestingly, it was initially about insecurity surrounding lust. The chorus was originally “what do you look like, when your nude?” To the melody of “now that you’ve found it, it’s gone” should look up the OKNOTOK cassette version
@@tarnitthebassist7149 you're right I just listened trough OKNOTOK demos and the version of Nude on there could completely rearrange its meaning. Both are very relevant
His music isn’t about drugs it’s about it’s about his loneliness anxiety amongst other things, in which he uses metaphor in his lines, I love your vids tho 🤙
Nude, All I Need, and Videotape make this entire album for me. The lyrics in All I Need are some of my favorite Radiohead lyrics, and also some of the most devastating.
Brother, I watch this review more than any other and you truly understand the entire album more than any other. This shit is pure painful beauty and you brought a true review. That's a sub for me
Man, I was worried watching through the first 2 songs haha. Glad you caught the vibe, you should revisit them now that you have a feel for their sound. On this album at least, all their albums have a unique sound. And it's a 5 member band, 1 singer. Thom Yorke and he's amazing. There's a 2006 bonaroo version of Videotapes I always recommend. The beat is syncopated and they play it a lot differently than the studio version
You can give yourself a hernia trying to figure out the lyrics for some Radiohead songs he uses his voice as an instrument sometimes and even when you can understand it the lyrics are pretty cryptic.
I loved your reaction to Jigsaw Falling Into Place (My favorite RH song). It was funny to see you talk about your love for the track All I Need and then instantly fall in love with this track.(subscribed)
Also something I’ve realized in my music listening journey is that when I listen to something and there’s a part of me that thinks it’s quite weird but there’s another part that kinda likes it, I learned that the part of me that doesn’t like it, doesn’t like it not because it’s bad but because I’m not used to it so now I have a playlist where I add songs that I think are weird but there’s something about it I like and about 8/10 of those songs I eventually add to my good playlist when I get really into it
the bends is the most normal radiohead album that is actually good. it’s very accessible. i don’t think this guy is ready for kid a yet, he was talking about how goofy 15 step and bodysnatchers were the whole time
We all have to start somewhere with expanding our palates, I guess 😅 This sounds unusual to you now, but the more you expose yourself to music different than what you're used to, the more this will sound perfectly normal, and you'll be open to listening to music that's way more experimental. Have fun on your journey!
One of my favorite albums from one of my favorite bands of all time. You cookin on this one. You gotta check out OK Computer and A Moon Shaped Pool by them as well, both albums crazy and both different in their own ways. Still waitin on the Brakence reaction too my guy! I know youll get to it :)
Radiohead is so bizarre but so beautiful. Specifically Thom Yorke, the lead vocalist. People usually either love or hate his vocal style. It's hit or miss for me. But the instrumentals are so great on this album either way. Modest Mouse - 'Good News For People Who Love Bad News' is an absolute classic album. Please do a reaction to that if you want something super different, but very fun to listen to. I think you'd like it.
Glad you enjoyed Nude, personal favorite of mine, feel like that song captured something special, despite being inspired from an older song with similar melody. Love the content lately mate.
Given you liked All I Need so much, you should watch the video they made for it: "Radiohead produced the music video for "All I Need" with MTV in support of the MTV EXIT campaign, which promotes awareness and increase prevention of human trafficking and modern slavery."
I remember when I finally got this album on my laptop. I downloaded it with wifi off a dial-up modem and it took 3 days to finally get it. It kept getting interrupted bc wifi was terrible back then and I'd have to start over each time. I remained patiently steadfast in my anticipation, however. Radiohead didn't release a CD until a month or two later (also there was no price on the download, instead they were asking for donations. I paid $20.00US. Partially bc I knew it'd be worth it, partially bc I didn't know the exchange rate for British Pounds)
Excellent job! They have only 9 albums but they are masters of their craft. You will love Ok Computer, kid A, and a moon shaped pool-- please review in that order please :) enjoy! 🤙
I think part of the reason its able to seem dark and sad while putting tou in a good mood is because no matter how dark the themes are there an underlying optimism in the fact we all feel these things we all have these experiences, we aren't alone, and people care
OK COMPUTER PLEASE, THE PRODUCTION, THE INSTRUMENTALS, THOMS VOICE EVERYTHING ABOUT THAT ALBUM IS 10/10 PLEASE DONT DO OTHER REACTIONS WITHOUT REACTING TO THAT ALBUM
Bodysnatchers lyrics are wild AF but basically he is saying he is repeating and doing what others want him to do. Thats why he feels like its not him in the skin. One of my favorite songs tho lol
I highly recommend you react to the basement session for In Rainbows and there are no copyright issues you should hear him sing Nude and Reckoner live it's even better.
You gotta listen to Melodrama by Lorde. Its considered by critics to be the best pop album of the entire 2010 decade. Its on rolling stone list of greatest albums of all time
Hey, just other versions of videotape are also great, the one from the basement or that from bonnaro which is more energetic ( I would REALLY reccommend that). Also try to find video about videotape syncopated. So interesting, even though it sounds like classic 4/4 there is more in it.
