man giving a big up to climbing up the walls as top 3. Hats off to you giving credence to mental health. Thom Yorke writing the song from his experience working in a mental hospital.
No Surprises was a tiktok hit for a while which is why its streams are so high, that and its also just a masterpiece. Before that it was the second most popular after Karma Police which was a big late 90's song. Both were singles and have incredible music videos along with Paranoid Android. Glad you liked Let Down its my personal favorite song of all time.
I feel ya man, this first time I listened to this in college in 1997 I'd never heard anything like it and I thought, this is the closest to a perfect album I've ever heard, and that moment that became my favorite album and my favorite band and it hasn't changed in 25 years. Be prepared - they change up the sound for every album, sometimes drastically - like the third in their TOP 3 trifecta is "Kid A" and it is a whole new Universe...but they still create incredible songs. It's true on every album. This one though....there is a reason it has all the legacy and hype.
Remember this was came from 1997, at that time, OK Computer sounds like it came from the future. also, fyi Exit Music (For A Film) is written for Romeo + Juliet.
I suggest doing The Bends, then Kid A, just to see how the evolved with their albums, from The Bends, to OK Computer, then Kid A because it’s known for being a completely 180 in they’re style of music, even after OK Computer
Radiohead is a feeling for real! Thom Yorke the vocalist doesn’t sound like anyone else and they way he emotes through his voice is still amazing to this day. Original band and line up for the last 40 years! 😊 Every cd they’ve done is excellent. Some more excellent than others. Oh also no one has mentioned their album Hail to the Thief came out in 2003 it’s a VERY underrated album that you should check out! In Rainbows came out in 2007 which you’ve reviewed. 😊 Also this album came out in 1997 and it literally sounded like it came from the future because music did NOT sound like this then! ☺️
This album is most definitely in the top 10 best albums of all time. GREAT reaction my guy! My top 3 on the album would be Exit Music, Climbing up the walls and Lucky. Saw them live back in '04 and when they played Lucky and that part "It's gonna be a glorious day" came second time around, everybody sang that shit from the top of their lungs. It was beautiful. Core memory right there. Can't wait to see you react to the rest of the albums!
You're probably my new favorite human, your vibe is so casual and infectiously uplifting. This album is amazing, I'm also a Let Down enjoyer for suuure. Among the excited waiting for mezmerize/hypnotise ❤ Idk you must have patreons with exactly my taste. I gotta get onto Suicideboys tho, I know I'm missing out.
There are some albums where the artistry is just present in every second and I feel this is one of them. The sound is equally as much of a story as the lyrics and it paints an image, like you hear it and you just feel the exact thing they were invoking. It's mad
been watching your slipknot and system of a down reactions, and now you're doing another radiohead album, which is my favorite band. feel like im gonna have a good time
This reaction brings me life! Love it so much. I cannot wait for your reaction to their other albums! Definitely recommend the order of: The Bends Kid A Amnesiac Hail to the Thief King of Limbs and their most recent A Moon Shaped Pool. It would also be DOPE if you reacted to their session Live at The Basement for the album In Rainbows. Throughly masterful. ❤❤
I think the reason you find that part of the song Exit Music (For A Film) to be magical is the instrument used for the string sounds. I believe it’s a Mellotron, a kind of keyboard that uses samples of real string instruments on loops of tape, and it’s just fake enough to create that dreamy sound.
I really want to see you react to Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief (my personal fav one) because you really get an idea of just how diverse their sound can be, every album is so different and awesome in its own way
Yo, I really enjoy your reactions, I think you're one of the REALEST out there. BTW, will you do some Bones again, I'd love to see that. Some recommendations: Deadboy (2014), Powder (2015) or UNRENDERED (2017) ❤✌
love your appreciation to music. you're really BUILT for it. i also get the feeling of being stuck to one song, lol 😂 fact about airbag: the lead singer of Radiohead Thom Yorke once was driving to a rehearsal with the band and crashed. this had a big impact on his life and he was really scared of driving. airbag also represents a safety caution in life, let it be your friends, family or coworkers, or yourself. it's gonna save you, and you are born again
I'd recommend listening to OKNOTOK it's got a bunch of songs cut from this album, and they're all like seriously good. The song lift was literally cut from the album because it was TOO good
There's a reggae cover album of OKC called Radiodread by Easy Star All Stars. It's actually really good and lots of fun to see how they twist each song to fit the genre. Their version of Climbing up the Walls is on par with the original imo.
one of the best albums ever created! glad you liked climbing up the walls its my fav off this album. man you gotta react to dark side of the moon by pink floyd at some point too its an absolute classic
you gotta do more Radiohead. The "KID A" album if u want to hear their more experimental sounds, or Hail to the Thief for some of their best underrated songs. Much love Reno, keep it up!
Listen to Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins, it came out alongside grunge albums but it leans more towards dream pop/shoegaze. You'll really enjoy it.
The bends is def a next listen from Radiohead. But side suggestion if you want to listen to some heavier stuff, gojira the way of all flesh is something I can’t recommend enough. Keep up the good work dude
i recommend the album D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L by panchiko, their story is really cool but they get hate because they are "like radiohead" but that album is actually really good. i also recommend the album Peripheral Vision by Turnover. that album is a very calming and lyrically and instrumentally beautiful album definitely in my top 5
In a subtle way, there is a voice that tells you, come look from above everything is fine... I invite you to jump into the void, the fall will hurt a little or a lot, but in the end when you close your eyes everything will be okay or not? Regards from Chile South America...
If you're down to get into Radiohead's more experimental albums, Kid A is the best place to start. It's a bit weird on first listen, especially if you don't listen to that type of stuff much, but it makes sense and grows on you the more you hear it. Amnesiac and especially The King of Limbs are a little more experimental by comparison. If not, A Moon Shaped Pool or The Bends would be good to check out next.
Yo boy. You're right Let down should have been the big hit. They had videos for karma Police paranoid Android and no surprises which I feel was an artistic statement more than going for what would obviously sell more records. Still I would love an alternate reality where let down was on the radio.
I'd say you'll probably enjoy The Bends or Heil to the Thief the most, but Kid A is definitely a favourite of some. Ok Computer and In Rainbows are their best IMO, but they have at least 4 strong no skip albums total to me.
My top tracks of this (the album i have listened to the most in my life) 12. Subterranean Homesick Alien 11. Airbag 10. Fitter Happier 9. The Tourist 8. No Surprises 7. Karma Police 6. Electioneering 5. Paranoid Android 4. Lucky 3. Exit Music (For a Film) 2. Climbing Up The Walls 1. Let Down [One of the prettiest songs ever😭]
interesting your three fav: Airbag, Let Down and Climbing up the walls, all became the songs i'm the least bored of after 20 years listening. Not that the others are not great... just something about those stay fresh to me. Fantastic 10/10 album. In Rainbows is even better but there is no more room left on the scoreboard.
There are two camps of Radiohead fans. Those who think OK Computer is their best, and those that think that In Rainbows is the best. I personally prefer OK Computer. I think it's their most impactful album. OK Computer was so far ahead of it's time. And the galactic sounds throughout the album are perfection. It's been one of my favorite albums of all time since it was released. Subterranean Homesick Alien is one of my favorite songs ever made.
