Karma Police is about how we judge people and become worse than the people we are criticizing. At the end of the song he realizes and says “phew, for a minute there I lost myself”

From the Paranoid Android lyrics - "the yuppies networking" yuppie is a slang term for "young urban professional" and networking is a cynical take on them trying to socialise to gain influence. A lot of the lyrics in this song are influenced by a bad night Thom Yorke had in a bar in LA, where he was "surrounded by demons from another planet" in his words. Great reaction, really enjoyed it.

Airbag is about real event. Thom York had been involved in a car accident roughly a decade before recording this album, his life saved by an airbag. This song is about feeling ‘a thousand times more alive’ after catastrophic events, being ready to metaphorically ‘save the universe’ like superhero. That’s why in the final track he sings ‘Idiot slow down’ ,he says it to his past self, who lived life at fast speeds without appreciating it. Also nice taste in anime, I got into Radiohead after watching ergo proxy

Jonny Greenwood loved Ergo Proxy. He's also weirdly a big fan of Attack No. 1 which was the first female sports anime.

1997, had only heard "Paranoid Android" and loved it (it was on an old MTV animation show, the 90's was an incredible time for music so I bought the CD) sitting in my rented house in college, put on a psychedelic screensaver, I had really loved "Fake Plastic Trees" but had no other preconceived idea about Radiohead. first reaction I had was 'this is the most perfect album I've ever heard.' That was it...25 years later I still feel the same. And the band just kept evolving and continued to blow me away - I even took 6 years off to go down a blues journey, then heard "In Rainbows" another perfect album, and to this day I have never had a connection to a band like Radiohead, they are my generation's .................fill in the blank. How they became this good, this great - I suppose it is an question one cannot answer. The next album I wanted to be Part 2 to "OK Computer" but it is SO different, it threw me for such a loop I took years to come back, "Kid A" but now I see it as their most artistic, experimental master work. 'Ok Computer' is the overall master work greatest album, 2000's 'Kid A' requires more time and thought and allowance for the songs to seep into your brain and is the once-in-a-lifetime album nothing has ever sounded like before or probably ever will again and it gets better every time I hear it - and it took me a decade to finally get it - and 2007 "In Rainbows" is the band in its absolute finest form, an apex of sorts. The band hitting on all cylinders. And all the rest in between, some hit immediately some take weeks some take literal years, for me - but it was really cool to see you have a very similar experience as I did to "OK Computer." Whether you become a fan of the band, time will tell as we each have our own personal likes and feelings, but thanks for sharing this. I love hundreds and hundreds more bands and dozens upon dozens of genres, but nothing has ever touched this record. Hope you enjoyed your lasagna! Here is to great music and how it can touch the soul. Peace//

Aside from the timeless quality of the music, another thing I’ll always love this album for was that as a teenager it was a gateway into a lot of other rich music. If you hear the interviews from 1997, they talk about influences that include Bitches Brew, Lou Reed’s Transformer, Can, DJ Shadow, Portishead, Pet Sounds…

OK Computer considered to be One of The Greatest Album of All Time, released in 1997, at that time this album was like came from the future. Radiohead predicted the future technology so well. Exit Music (For A Film) is written for Romeo and Juliet. definitely one of my favorite song of all time. If you love Björk, you'll love Radiohead, the frontman Thom Yorke adore Björk, you can see their featuring on Björk song I've Seen It All. Also, love your reaction man! Highly recommend to do their entire discography.

Climbing Up The Walls is about schizophrenia. "Either way you turn, I'll be there, open up your skull, I'll be there." It's like an inability to escape yourself. Climbing up the walls as an expression essentially means going crazy. The sounds they put in this track are amazing. It feels like an abandoned mental hospital.
@im_schmidty
@im_schmidty 11 месяцев назад
It was actually written about when thom Yorke worked in a mental hospital, one of the patients used to say something about "they're climbing up the walls" or something like that. Such a terrifying thought

Thom Yorke was in a car crash in his younger days. Airbag is inspired by that incident and is about the illusion of safety. In the moment he felt both very vulnerable and indestructible at the same time at the fact that he could have died but was saved by this piece of technology.
@danberado

I don't know if its a cultural thing, but I think you're interpreting the lyrics too literally. These are metaphorical songs.
@andrewhyde4708

Masterpiece. That they jumped from The Bends to this seems like a crazy leap, but there are some ambient sounds and details in The Bends that indicated where they were going. There are also some really good B sides from this period (Talk Show Host, Bishop’s Robes, A Reminder, Lull) in which they were experimenting with different atmospheres and styles.

What Yorke is saying in the first song is that he is surprised to be saved by this technology when he sees the utter destruction of the car. Now he has a new lease on life and feels born again, as if he died and was resurrected.
