I 100% agree with absolutely everything in this review after having the identical bike (even the color) minus the fenders and rack for a week now. This was truly the most accurate review of this I've seen and I can't add anything to it other than I'm having an absolute blast with it! My riding is just for casual recreation and exploring the many miles of greenways and seawalls and parks around Vancouver and this bike is absolutely perfect for that. I'm 54 now and I couldn't ride some of the distances I used to before because of knee issues but the other day I did about 40km with almost no problem. As the reviewer pointed out, the seat is only good for short rides and my arse was hurting after a few hours so I replaced it with a good serfa rx saddle and I did over 3 hours today in total comfort. And it doesn't look like a granny saddle hehe!🤣...the only other thing I did was rotate the bars into a more upright riser type position wich gets me sitting up just a little more and it seemed to make the bike feel like it handles even better. This bike is just so fun and addictive to ride and if you're on the fence about the whole single speed thing as I was before my test ride at the dealership then just try it. You might be pleasantly surprised. This bike gas gotten me back out doing what I love again...rad hit a home run with this one fer sure!😊

@Sleepy_Rainy_Day yep, still have the bike and still loving it. I've upgraded it quite a bit including, larger standard rad battery and schwalbe marathon tires for increased range, lcd upgrade, rack and bag, suntour suspension seatpost and seat, upgraded brake cables ect, ect...I've basically built it into the perfect bike for me and with regular tune ups and maintenance I've got almost 7000km on it now with no major problems.

I had the chance to ride an e-bike for the first time today, a Rad 6 I believe. A decent tryout for 30-40 minutes on city streets. I was impressed and now I’m looking at Rad options. I had to admit, I’m not 25 anymore but still want to ride. Great review, thank you.

I have had a RadMission 1 for about a month now and have been using it for commuting to work and for recreational purposes as well. I have also added the front basket, kickstand, and fenders to the overall package. May add the rear rack down the road. I absolutely love it and I agree with much of the points in this review. I live in Vancouver and my commute is 27km each way, with mild to steep hills interspersed throughout the ride. It is a champ through all but the steepest hills. And I don't mind peddling through them to keep the speed up. It has shortened my commute from 1:20 each way on a analog bike to 50-55 minutes on the Mission. I don't miss the car. I am having blast riding in every day, and knowing that I will arrive at the same time every day!

@@Yowzoe Not really as long as you stick to its intended purpose. My other bike is a full suspension enduro mountain bike that I use for trail riding. With this, even though you feel all the bumps on the road, I would still take a lighter setup like this. It would also be more efficient going down the road.
@YLaw-hh8ex
@YLaw-hh8ex Год назад
@@bernievassallo3336 For me, it is more than enough. I am 200 lbs and you will need to pedal up hill, but it helps you out a lot. The single gear could be more of a limiting factor, but I encounter a lot of mild to moderate hills during my commute and it's no issue at all.

Just a slight update: I went to the rad dealer to pick up the lcd screen upgrade and it's not actually compatible with the radmission. It will work but it's only programmed for 26 or 28 inch tires and not the 27.5 that are on these bikes so the information it displays wouldn't be accurate. I've seen a few videos on the display and it seems to be true that there's no setting for 27.5 so it looks like some kind of oversight on rads part to advertise them as being for the radmission. They were gonna sell me one but the mechanic knew about the problem and saved me the hassle of finding out the hard way so kudos to him. He said that rad is planning on fixing the issue and making a display available that will work properly...

An excellent review ... I've had mine since Hallowe'en and have gone on about ten rides in and around the little mountain town where I live. (I'm 71 and have been riding a steel-framed Specialized Rockhopper for about 25 years.) We noticed many of the same things. - I switched the excellent MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) upgrade seat (normal-looking) from my Rockhopper to my Radmission and added a Suntour suspension seat-post. My ass really appreciates the two tweaks ... especially on gravel bike paths. - I too ordered the rear rack and kickstand, but not the fenders ... and sure as hell not a basket for carrying a cute little dog. I have an image to maintain. - I had my (great) local bike shop (this town is a cycling mecca in the Canadian Rockies) add a stem riser to the front handlebars (I am six-foot- one) when they assembled my bike. They also installed the rear rack (not a minor job) ... all for $47. Good people ... they also installed and adjusted/tweaked the Suntour seat-post. - I too wear gloves and agree about the lousy ergonomics of the PAS controller. I do not like taking my eyes off the road to look at it ... plus you have to push **down** on the PAS button ... with your index finger (not push **forward** with your thumb) ... and the mushy button has no click/detent that signals that your push has been firm enough ... so you have to look **again** to confirm that something actually happened. So, in a busy or challenging riding environment ... I often just stop in a safe/calm place to lower the PAS level, and use the throttle almost always when some short-term boost is needed. If I foresee a long uphill haul, I might stop the bike to methodically raise the PAS. - For added visibility, I bought a sleek and powerful Fenix BC30 V.2 headlight ... a 2020 tweaked version of their already excellent 2015 version. I totally love the bike ... it has turned out to be absolutely perfect for me.

@@tobiasisverding1276 Hello Tobias. I am not sure of the exact brand or length ... it was just the one that the shop happened to have in stock. About $25 - $30, I think. And actually, I wish that it was even another inch or two longer (or adjustable) because I still have to lean over a smidgeon too much.

@@Yowzoe Thank you. I do appreciate your taking the time to acknowledge my own effort. It's been almost exactly two years now. I don't ride during the winter months, but do ride almost daily the rest of the time. There is a gorgeous paved bike path that connects three of the small former mining-towns here in a mountain pass, and it runs mostly alongside a world-class trout river. Everything still applies. Two broken spokes were noticed during this Spring's $50 tune-up, and Radmission Canada actually returned the shop's phone call while I was still there, getting the bad news. They Fed-Exed five free spokes the next day, for free. Unfortunately, the FedEx truck that picked-up the package then sat in the parking lot of the FedEx distribution-centre (in Vancouver) for more than a week before it was even unloaded and its cargo even processed. The issue with the PAS controller quickly "took care of itself" after "Muscle Memory" took over and I easily mastered the Braille Method of tweaking the assist-level. Eyes never leave the road now. Now it's as automatic and simple as shifting gears with the 5-speed "stick" in my old Hyundai. It's the same with using the rotary throttle for "moving from stationary".

Excellent review! An ideafor you 👍 Pitch to rad that you need to mod it (good for them as well if they decide to sell the parts). You could add front shocks and a seat post suspension (rad sells those already). As they do not have any other "non fat" bikes it would be interesting for a lot of people that want a lighter bike or just don't care for the dorky looks of the fat bike and like to go on trails at the weekend! Also, did you see what's going on in NYC? Excluding e-bike from bike paths! A video on that and background (safety accessibility etc) would be interesting I think!

Great review. 👍 Sometimes I wish I would have bought this one instead of the Radrunner. The fat tires of the Radrunner are an overkill, imho. They are great for one thing though - gravel. The tires have a great deal of rolling resistance and they are noisy (when I ride people can hear me coming from 30-40 m away. It kinda scares them a little and they often "give me the look"). But hey, I am used to the "lightness" of my city bike's 1.6 inch tires. So, I think 27.5x1.95 would be a blast to ride, quite and with enough cushion + light steering, especially in "commuter mode" and light forest trails. And the less tire resistance means more miles with one charge. 👍

@@allstate125 Well, I can't ride my bike with 5 km/h now, can I? It's the wide tires that make a lot of noise. Because it's not a slick tire, they are noisy. Also, the engine too adds some noise to the mix. Cheers.

Nice review. I subscribed after this one. I had watched your Aventon Adventure post and I appreciate that you ride different terrains and provide a very thorough overview. Cities like NYC have really poor roads and reviews that assume smooth pavement for short distances leave a ton of questions. I own a 3-speed Brompton and I love how maneuverable and portable it is, but I may have to commute door to door (over 30 mph roundtrip) for a little over an hour. I am looking for an affordable option. This seems like it could work without having to choose a fat bike. I looked at Ride1Up, which is stealthy and light, but the Mission seems to edge it out on features.

do you have to pedal while under power? or is there a way to just cruise without pedaling?

That's what the throttle does.

@@TheTechofTech so what's pedal assist then. im sorry im confused lol

They are two separate systems. The throttle acts just like a motorcycle throttle- twist it, and you add power to the motor whether you're pedaling or not. The more you twist it, the more power the motor gets. Pedal assist is a setting that adds motor power when a sensor senses that you are pedaling. You can select different levels of pedal assist from nothing to near full motor power. Pedal assist kicks in without you touching the throttle. On a Rad, you can even have a low level of pedal assist, then twist the throttle for more power if you just want it to crest a hill or scoot away from a car or dog or whatever. Both systems are available at all times, but you can use one without the other.

Your saddle is to high. What you are doing is not only bad for your knees but its more exhausting aswell.

I’m a clinical exercise physiologist, 5-time Ironman triathlon finisher, 5-time USAT National Championship qualifier and competitor, former bike fitter at a triathlon shop, and a former triathlon coach. You want almost full extension of your knee at the bottom of the pedal stroke with your feet level to the ground or even with your heel slightly lower than the ball of your foot. There are tons of videos online showing exactly what I’m talking about. Here is just one of them: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TxxiIx4yVe4.html
