The downward facing slant in the first pillbox is a unloading bay for the Guns and rifles for when the people on duty would unload after a stint on stag. It’s to prevent ricocheting bullets inside the pillbox if a round is discharged by accident when unloading the rifles.
There's also s interesting bunker in bossenden woods. There's also a few bits you have missed. Let us know if you visit again. Maybe me and my lad can tag along.
you still need to come mersea island the two sugars cafe is an old pill box. we have old broken ones all over the coast and you can still get bullets shells and bomb shells out the water. i got a 40mm shell and 2 bullets you need to know the fisher men to get that stuff tho. they dredged it out the mud, we used to get mines all the time if you pull up a mine up you have to call the army. people didnt tho hahahahah if you find one you get new nets paid a whole days work so people used to mark them on gps and come back if they had a shit day fishing and get free nets and a days work hahahah love ur stuff btw
Hey Guys .... you really need to get over to the old fuel dump in Chichester... it's up for Demolition/redevelopment pretty soon.. its got it's own little railway and all sorts..
I totally agree with you Ian, its a travesty our building's of historic importance are getting destroyed by the ignorance of idiotic people who have little care of our history, why doesnt National Heritage or a new organisation bring in some kind of regulations in place to preserve and possibly fund these important buildings / airfields and so forth, im all for it and willing to persue this in some form of petition or way or other.
