Thank you so much for this. It is very heartwarming to know that young men like yourselves are interested in the history of such a vital sector of our defence. Keep it up.

Used to live in Tangmere Crescent just over the road in the airfield estate and used to walk round the airfield frequently. All houses now. Brilliant video lads.
My father was in the RAF during WW2 and when we moved to Hainault in the 1950’s we went to the fantastic Hornchurch air shows. Spitfires and Lancasters were among the many classic aircraft that would delight the crowds that lined the runways. Happy days😅
Such an important airfield in our ww2 history should have been preserved after the war . In typically British fashion we build on these important areas or let them rot without any preservation for future generations to study or learn from .
Just been here today and took a gentle stroll around. Then discovered your video on it? Going to have to go back now. We did discover the the buildings on the site of the old St George hospital, were originally part of the airfield as well. Great stuff guys.
Glad to hear, ah we thought the St George’s Hospital buildings had all been demolished. There has also been a heritage centre open since which looks great. Maybe a return is needed
there's also a under a ground bunker facing the first lake close to the path we use to play in as a kids..The time team didn't find it, but I can still picture it.
@@CrowGB yes he spoke of a prophecy. 2 virgins fro. The Isle of Canvey poking around dirty holes then the 2 virgins shall find love with each other and bum each other at various ww2 landmarks within the uk
I used to live a couple of blocks away in 1967, i played there all the time, I used to run through the air raid shelters that are blocked off now, also that pillbox with no entry they had tunnels running underneath the airfield to access them
They were supposed to build a runway there as a memorial there on the existing country park..Think it was a con just to make another rubbish dump prior to that. Left the housing estate there in 2008 so do not know the outcome.
