Brilliant video, thanks. I was there 74-75 in GEF. Great posting tbh. Driving the train to the sailing club was something else. The whole camp coming down with something akin to norovirus was another memory! Xmas 74 and the best themed block competition, remember that? So many memories: MMG Club (Grace and Dorothy); Buff Lodge; CH Saloon; Kimji Ramdas 'supermarket' out in the bondhu. As Gozome time approached, "We Gotta Get Outa This Place" played frequently on Radio 65.

Was there in 72 in the Commcen - remember the pond, the sewage ejector was just outside!! Lived in a Twyneham for a while before graduating to a much hotter Sewell Block (no bedbugs there!!) Listened to the Doors every night at the |Naafi, had a job cleaning the cinema paid £2 but you got free entry - saved me a fortune. Came home with £400 stuffed in my boots. Highlight of the tour were the bondu bashes, sleeping under the stars - have a hankering to go back. Thanks for the great film

Was here in 75 some great memories, nightly football hacking the point, the turtle club, bondoo bashes, even seen my old room

I was there in 1976 at the medical centre. My nine months got extended to April 1977 for the handover to SOAF. Also remember hacking the point and 5 a side football. I was lucky enough to be the station hygienist (env health) and got to drive right round the island regularly treating wells and water storage to prevent mosquitos/malaria. Had a lot of ‘friends’ who joined me to get off the camp!

Beautiful film! Returned for holiday(trip down memory lane) in 2005 with my teenage son. Wonderful hospitality from locals; especially after I'd shown pics of lots of them when they were kids! Taken on a tour by the Omani Stn. Cdr. and though so much has changed there's a lot that hasn't. I worked ATC 72/3 and I swear it's exactly the same as when I left- right down to the dynotape labels on the equipment! I have some vid which I'll sort out and post.

There's certainly some memories here - posted to Systems Control 72/73 - met Mike McCann out there and we formed 'Fusions' - a live 'Rock & Roll' band - played regularly in the Crazy H / Corporals Club etc. Mike and I actually met in the Radio 65 shack as we did a bit of DJing and we played our very first live gig with Mike on Drums in one booth and me on an acoustic guitar in the other advertising for a bassist and a singer to come join us.

I was on Masirah Dec 73-Sep 74. 276 Signals Unit. I may be getting older, but I can still remember Al Uney, Taff Williams, Geoge Clough, Jock Reap, Chris Towle, Doug Hall, Mark Ryan, Neil Smith. I wonder how many of you remember the Masirah Wobbly, the radio net we had with the Army guys based at Midway camp.

Funny thing, nostalgia; I served 2 detachments & a full tour (13 months in total, I did a 'cook's tour' of 9) on this island & hated every minute of it. But looking at this video 40+ years later makes me think, 'it wasn't all bad' - maybe it is because I am losing my marbles.........

Just missed you John as I rotated out in Apr.'73. I see from a comment on Servicepals webisite that we had a mutual mate - Eric Cracknell. We did our Telep Op training together at Cosford and were both posted to Rudloe Manor together in '69. He was a genuine bloke. So sad to hear that he is no longer with us.

I was there 1971-72. Nobody mentions what a S..t hole it was, bloody donkeys everywhere, getting shot at from the hills, freezing night time temperatures, showering in seawater, idiots from MPBW putting seawater in the drinking water at the desalination plant. Constructing cattle grids to keep out the donkeys and putting the rails in line with the road resulting in a pile of Honda 50s at the side of the road as their front wheels went in resulting in a queue of injured locals at sick quarters. The donkeys taking all of 2 hours to work out that they could get through the fence wires by standing on the bottom one and pushing under the middle strand. Man eating Camels in the mating season. Just to mention a few

I was there Nov '62 to Nov '63. I hardly recognise the luxury palace Masirah has become! No pool, no paved roads, some Twynham huts but many of the older buildings with curved roof - as I said, no luxury! Aircraft were the Argosy, Beverley, DC3, the occasional York(!) and, of course Pembrokes and the locust control aircraft. Shower wanted? Yes, but sand-blasted both ways from billet to shower and back!
