Thing is here these conditions was the best possible for Novak with the closed roof and cold temperature, more control + lower bounce. So even though it is clay this match should have been closer maybe even a different winner perhaps if Novak played his best.

@Jensen HARGREAVES Federer has the best public image for charity and stuff because he also commercialises himself for doing so (nothing wrong) Rafa and Novak do that too, but Rafa is the biggest gentleman in tennis history, never said anything bad about anyone, never threw a tantrum or anything like it. The GOAT tittle is debatable but the biggest role model and gentleman in this sport is Rafa by far and to me that's why he is the GOAT because there is more to it then on court results (which he also has)

Odd was against this man. The cold temperature, closed roof, humidity, new heavy balls, low bounce, no warm up matches behind him and then meeting the world number 1, who was brimming with confidence after the Rome title behind him. To defeat Djokovic in straight sets and a bagel shows what a beast Rafa is. People say about current Novak's dominance, Rafa today showed no matter what circumstances, no one can challenge him in Paris. Now, he completes his 100th win, equals Roger Federer 20th Grand Slams, 13th French Open title, what an achievement!! What a fighter!! what a champion!! King of Clay!! GOAT

@@juanmartin8753 Shut up. Djokovic has better mental strength than the grunter. Talk about records...Djokovic doesn't just eclipse all of Nadal's achievements (of course except clay which Nadal relies on) but also outperforms in terms of all surfaces. Throughout his career he has faced opposition from fanboys like you. More slams, weeks at #1 (doubled it in fact), he has 40 masters titles, has more year end titles and wins over Federer and Nadal. Now, you can go ahead and say that I am just spewing stats at you, so before you began your roid rage, I'll cram some facts up your ass. Djokovic has supported improved education in Serbia by direct donations and has a foundation with his wife to continue this. He also guided young players to play in the ATP Next Gen organization. Did you even muster up the energy to watch some of the interviews, events, etc. with the other ATP players? Novak has utmost respect to his opponents, and in general, he is an extremely charismatic and energetic person. So, outside of tennis and on the court, I don't see how he's simply racquet smasher that you describe him as.

Djokovic was a much later bloomer too and Ofc this doesn’t mean Federer can’t beat either of them these days (match point against Djokovic in Wimbledon 2019 for example) but it shows that he won most of his majors (15 or so) before Rafa (and then later Djokovic) truly started to dominate

If Rafa has played 60 slams instead of 70 or 80 as a result of injuries then that's his own doing. Maybe if he played a less physical brand of tennis then he'd have less chances of getting injured.Of course playing less physical tennis might mean less chance of winning those 20 that he has won.

Down 2 match points to Roger? Not a problem. Not to mention 100% of the crowd was against Novak. Sun in his eyes too and he was returning Federer's serve. Then again crowds are never an issue for Novak. Down 2 sets to a guy 15 years younger? (Sinner 2022 QF) No problem. Down a set to Kyrgios (2022 Final) having never won a set vs Nick and never having broken his serve previously? No problem. Down a set to a guy undefeated on grass that season? (Berrettini 2021 final) no problem. Regardless of who defeats him, its gonna be a SEISMIC shock next time Novak loses a Wimbledon match. Makes Murrays win in 2013 all the more incredible that he managed to pull it off. Rafa's epic AO run isnt possible with Novak in Australia. But Medvedev was also in fantastic form and mentally in a great place, especially after coming from 2 sets and MP down vs FAA who himself had a great year. Rafa coming from 2 sets down vs a confident Medvedev was truly stunning given the circumstances. The tough 5 setter vs Shapo when Nadal won despite heat stroke. And being out for 5 months before. Katherine Sparkes to have 20 GS when you are excellent on clay or grass is twice more difficult than to win on hard court. Not only that. To play on clay is the most difficult of the three as it requires much more technique, mental strength and strategy as you cannot rely so much on your service. That is why he is the best even if Federer has a more refined technique. That and because his injury struggles and his come backs and his humility and his attitude on and off court. Federer was playing tennis 5 years without facing an strong opponent. In fact, Rafa lost 2 Wimbledon Finals before he defeated him in 2008. Federer won one RG because Nadal was out with injury. It is like Thiem’s US open victory without the Top 3.

Almargo said it best "Rafa will win Roland Garros 40 years in a row... he'll be 65 and still be winning at Roland Garros". That was back in 2008. As a Rafa fan, I am so proud of his achievements. Everything was against him winning this year's tournament - he hadn't won a warm-up tournament leading into Roland Garros for the first time in his career, the cold, wet weather and heavy ball would neutralise his natural advantages, and the seemingly invincible Novak Djokovic who owns a winning record (29-26) over him would be too much for him to overcome. I just love how Rafa rises to the challenge and overcomes adversity each and every time. Yes, there's been some heartbreaking losses over the years but I am never disappointed in being his fan. When he loses, he accepts it and moves on and comes back even stronger.

Djokovic usualy knows how to play him. But on clay, his tactics that brought him 25+ wins over Nadal just don't work. That backhand in diagonal on Nadal's forehand, usualy makes damege. Here, on clay, Nadal simply reaches the ball and that is why Djokovic made so many errors. He needed to push to hard. Don't really know what can anyone do to this guy on clay. You need some very special circumstances to beat him (e.g. Soderling had the best match of his life when he beat him). I can't believe I can say this, but I started playing tennis at the age of 15 specifically when Nadal upset Federer in the Semifinals and went on to win his first French Open. I was inspired because I never witnessed a player so razor-focused, hard-working, and who runs down every shot as if it's his last. Many players are inspired by Federer's ease, god-given talent, and grace in play. But for me, it was witnessing a player like Nadal who will work THOUSAND times harder than anyone else to win. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that, 16 years later, I would witness Nadal winning his 13th French Open to tie Federer for overall Grand Slams!
