Ultravox were, and still are, my favourite band. Rage In Eden was the album that really got me into electronic music, The Voice is my favourite song of all time.

Great video guys. Rage was a definite departure from Vienna which sounds very raw in comparison to this album, it does sound a more polished and thought out than their first album together and a million miles from most of the stuff they did with John Foxx.

"Rage in Eden" !!! The absolutely brilliant masterpiece of their whole career.Sound , rhythm , melodies.Everything is awesome. From the first song to the last.Nearly not possible, to choose one or two of the them , as the best ones of the album. Every song is great. To me ,it is an album ,similar to Roxy Musics "Avalon": It is a "music-crime" :0) to choose just one or two songs ,of such albums to listen to. You have to listen to the whole album. As we in german say ."Wie aus einem Guss" !!! Not one note too much ...not one note to less. Simply perfect!!! ULTRAVOX rules!!! Daddydarko :0)

My favourite band growing up in the 80s. This album and 'Vienna' before it are two of my favourites from the first half of the 80s. This still stands up well 40+ years later.

I liked the sound on Rage in Eden, the combination of electronic drums and bass with conventional instruments was their forte. There are no bad tracks on the album, the b sides to the singles were also good, Paths and Angles and I Never Wanted to Begin, if my memory serves. Thanks for the content.

The best Ultravox album by far and featuring their best singles. My favourite band of the early 80s but, sadly, I only got around to seeing them live on their U-VOX tour (in 1986) which was on the back of a very weak album IMHO. Wish I'd seen them in their heyday. That single cover of The Thin Wall always makes me smile because of the rushed or amateurishness of the photo... the torn paper around the armpits would have been photoshopped out if that cover were released today.

I suspect the record company put pressure on them to sell more singles, after this, and the quality gradually deteriorated. Same with OMD, after Dazzle Ships.

@@michaelsterckx4120 I've come across too many bands who weren't able to keep up the quality after the third/forth album. Case in point was a late 80s favourite All About Eve; superb first, good second, okay third, terrible forth. The one that bucked the trend was Depeche Mode, but they went slowly south after Alan Wilder left (IMHO). Totally agree about OMD.

@@colebox6275 The danger with creativity is that it does go in circles, which one has to be conscious of, otherwise the circles become ever more decreasing and repetitive. I find this with my own expression, so I have to think outside the circle, pardon my pun. Put the wheel out of true and exploit the results. If it bores me I chuck it.

This is my favourite Ultravox album. 'Systems Of Romance' and 'Vienna' are also excellent but this is a step up for me. 'I Remember' (Death In The Afternoon)' is one of my all time favourite tracks of theirs. Yes the album came out in 1981 although on screen, when playing track excerpts, it says 1982.

its funny now I can look back my first time listening to Rage in Eden 1981 as an Teenager back than...??? I loved it straight away because the Electro Sound reminded me of Kraftwerk...????? Rage in Eden was too far ahead of its Time back than in 1980/81...???? Just like the Human League Dare Record from 1981 ...???? Hard to belive that todays Music got soo freaking boring on the Radio"s...?????? The Future of Electronica Music was in 1978-1984...? Amazing Times to be an Teenager during this Years with Gary Numan , David Bowie Tangerine Dream , Kraftwerk , Ultravox , Visage , Yazoo , Klaus Schulze , Neu , Depeche Mode , John Foxx , Thomas Dolby BUT Ultravox & Kraftwerk ruled Electronica Music ....

Warning: Don't buy the 2022 Rage in Eden Box-Set. It sounds bad. Try to get an UK or German First Pressing in good condition, they sounds brilliant. The Box-Set 2022 has a thin, flat sound with lousy soundstage. My copy was also still a cracking pressing, so I returned the box. Check out the review on the youtube channel: "45 rpm Audiophile".
