Rai Ahmad Khan Kharal belonged to the Kharal tribe, which was one of the several powerful tribes in Punjab. He hailed from the Sandal Bar region, which is now part of modern-day Punjab, Pakistan. His resistance to British rule is particularly notable during the time of the 1857 Indian Rebellion (also known as the Indian Mutiny or the First War of Independence), a widespread uprising against British colonial power.
Resistance Against British Rule:
Kharal’s resistance stemmed from both the injustices of British taxation and their heavy-handed governance. He, along with other local tribal leaders, gathered forces to fight against British officials and their collaborators. He played a key role in organizing and leading guerrilla warfare tactics, harassing British forces in the region.
