After taking a brief break at the hotel following railfanning at Northridge earlier in the day, I continued my railfanning trip along Metrolink’s Ventura and Antelope Valley Lines and headed over to the Burbank Airport - North Metrolink Station (AV Line); specifically during the latter part of this Thursday afternoon to catch some of the evening commuter action. The Burbank Airport - North Station is particularly of great interest mainly because as of 2020, it remains as one of the newest stations throughout Metrolink’s entire system, where construction began just in 2017 and where subsequent revenue service commenced not long after in May of 2018. Specifically though, this station is rather unique in that it serves as an example of what upcoming future and existing Metrolink station upgrades will receive in the coming years; including updated Metrolink logos, signage, amenities, information displays, and updated station designs to name a few. What particularly stood out though is definitely the information displays, with its live, real time train status’ and rider alerts, as well as the abundance of greenery in and around the station platform areas, making it pleasantly more inviting for riders and visitors alike than some of the older station designs I have seen. Although this particular station is still simple in terms of its amenities and design and is similar to other Metrolink stations in terms of its layout, it truly does give a sense and feel of a brand new Metrolink; that combined with the increasing number of F125s now in service, makes the Burbank Airport - North Metrolink Station a place certainly worth checking out for sure !
Train 1 : Metrolink #220 with CabCar #695 & F125 #913. Right as I was walking towards the station and without enough time to make it to the platform, this improvised shot from across the street turned out surprisingly well in my opinion ! Amazing to see how fast the F125 accelerates out of the station !
Train 2 : Metrolink #215 with MP36PH-3C #891 & CabCar #640. Friendly conductor !
Train 3 : Metrolink #222 with CabCar #638 & F59PH #861. As time goes by and more F125s are placed into service, these F59PHs are becoming a rarer sight as the workhorses of Metrolink trains. Nice engineer.
Train 4 : Metrolink #217 with F125 #938 & CabCar #669. Right after Metrolink #222 departs, Metrolink #217 is seen meeting #222 at Brighton Siding just south of the station and then proceeds for its scheduled station stop. Friendly engineer on #938 ! After this train, I went to get some food and returned to the hotel for the night.
Thanks for Watching !
