Rail steel axes and knives are the most perfect rolled products, since they have been crushed by cold rolling under weights for years, extremely efficient products can be made... thanks for your work, nice work.
@@desertsmeagol7073 yeah, thanks guys. I read the description now again. It was the blade insert. I need to say a bit of crude job with a lot of imperfections...
ok, I am new to your Chanel. but you my friend are a big inspiration to me and the young men that have adopted my shop to learn blacksmithing and other shop crafts. thank You
Questionable forge weld as it seems there was nothing to inhibit scale from forming between the materials but otherwise nice work on this good looking axe
He doesn't show how many times he repeated each process, I can see what you mean though but if you look at the next shot he's definitely worked it more than we saw
Fantastic job my man! I'm sure other people have already said it, but after a long day of terrifying and pillaging nearly every town/village along the Mediterranean, you can always chop up a quick salad! 😁
I have made several more traditional method axes in Sweden, ie, less belt sanders and a longer shaft with a heavier end for better balance, but still not bad
Years ago I made a mistake of using tempered steel to make a chisel. I heated it up, made my point the way I wanted, heated it again and then quenched it in water. It looked really nice for the work I put in it, but when I went to use it, it shattered on me. I didn't get hurt, but I did learn a valuable lesson.
Very cool! I so love your video about knives and forging. It powerful and calmly, difficult and accessibly, gravely and funny. Especially I like test with vegetables) very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.
You are absolutely right, but i think it might be the camera or lighting that makes it seem less than red hot, I've noticed it in more forging videos on RU-vid. Not sure though
And he doesn't clean them properly either... and in the end, you can see it didn't stick well, you can see a big crack at 07:40 and another at 08:09 ...
That is a cool little tool. I like how you secured the handle. I'm gonna use that style. Usually I just use the wooden wedge. I'm going to try the double metal wedge 90⁰ to the wooden wedge for my next handle.
It works well. I just finished turning a Vulcan splitting hatchet into a carving/ woodsman tool. Little heavier and the beard not as long. Way lighter and easier to work with.
