Great film.👍The retaining wall was just on your left between the lower car park and the raised car park. Its upper layer was on your left in black engineering brick below the advertising hoardings. If you visit the car park when its empty you will see partial lengths of platforms.Blackpool South also has original length of a platform in its car park.

Very good, but a small detail. The Wyre (Fleetwood) Branch carried on with various Freight traffic for the ICI. I know this because I was a Crossing Keeper then Signalman in this area. It could actually be quite busy some days, when we include return trips. I also covered the level crossing at Moss Side, and Blackpool Sth Box, on the Blackpool Sth Line; among others

Up until the electrification work there was a random brick wall on the western approach to Kirkham station which was the remains of the Eastbound flyover from the Marton Branch. On the westbound side were sidings which were the start of the line that would end up at Central.

Very interesting, but just a couple of corrections for your information. First The Lytham Branch from Kirkham was opened in 1846, through to the old station, which is now the site of the Fire Station in Station Road. Second in 1863, the Blackpool & Lytham Railway was opened from Blackpool to Lytham. This Lytham Station was on the site of the current Lytham Station. At this time it was an independent company and not connected to the Preston & Wyre Joint Railway. The Preston & Wyre was jointly owned by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway 67%, and the London & North Western Railway 33%. The P&WJR bought the Blackpool & Lytham Railway in 1871 and built the connecting link at Lytham in 1874. The old station was closed and became the Good Station, all passenger trains using the New or Current Station. The Station Masters House was still in Station Street, opposite the old Lytham Station.

It's pronounce Poll ton not Pool ton. The M55 and Yeadon Way was not the reason why the Marton Line closed. However, the Highways Agency decided to use part of the old trackbed for the M55 and Blackpool Council decided Yeadon Way would be a convenient corridor from the motorway into the town. The site of the first Fleetwood station is not where you say it was and in fact, is closer to the Wyre Dock station which became the new terminus when Victoria Terrace closed. Where you show it was, was actually numerous coaching stock sidings. The first original Fleetwood station was not far from where the Wyre Dock is as that did not exist when the railway first came into the town. The line from Thornton was virtually straight into Fleetwood and ran across the marshes on wooden trestles and over the land the dock was later cut from. By the time they built the dock the wooden trestles were in a dangerous condition so they needed to remove these and re site the station. This also required a track re alignment and is the reason the line swings away from the river behind the now caravan parks. Again, the old track bed into Fleetwood is buried under Amounderness Way.

You're literally stood next to the "retaining wall" at 4:53 :) There's also another section of original wall still standing, running from the Joke Shop on Central drive to the entrance to the car park on Central Drive. This ran much further along, to the public toilets which were part of the station, and were there until 2009. You were stood next to the west wall in the video.

It's massively unlikely the line will be re-opened for heavy rail. PWRS seem intent on spending all their money on restoring a class 108 DMU, despite not having permission to put it on the line... and seemingly, doing nothing to rectify that. The junction is now lifted, so a connection to Poulton woudl be problematic at best. Also, there's no way Network rail will re-open the three level crossings for heavy rail. PWRS have been promising a train on the line "any time soon" since 2014. They never make any real attempt to get any permission to do so though. They're putting the cart before the horse by blowing all their cash on a Fowler shunting locomotive that sits rotting away at their Hill House site, and that is now joined by half of their DMU.. which will also never turn another wheel in its life. If that line is ever re-opened, it will be as light rail, and an extension to the tram network. The other issue is there is nowhere for a heavy rail station in Fleetwood. The trackbed north of Fleetwood Road is now covered by the A585, and the only plausible place for any kind of station is to run a line adjacent to the A585 and have it near the Three Lights Pub... which is not really any where near enough to Fleetwood for it to make any sense. I worked with the PWRS for years... they're more interested in flighting amongst themselves than making a real effort to do anything unfortunately, which is a shame, because there are some dedicated, skilled people there being let down by a bunch of idiots. The idiots are not the ones actually doing the hard graft by the way, who continue to have my respect and support.
@dancedecker
@dancedecker Год назад
@@pook2830What an absolute load of cobblers from start to finish. The line is destined now to be reopened as part of the network and if you took the time to actually look at what the PWRS has done, it was as originally intended, as in to save the line from becoming a cycle path, which they have done and from which status, if they hadn't, it would NEVER have been able to be reopened. The DMU was purchased from funds given SPECIFICALLY for such a purchase and therefore did not detract from other projects on the line. It is now almost completely restored and will either run on the line, as and when permission is granted to do so, or loaned to another line and therefore create a rental revenue. The junction is now able to be very easily restored to make the network connection, as it was at the PWRS's request, allowed to have "passive provision" in Network Rail's plans when the electrification was done. Network Rail do NOT have any issues with the level crossings, as they have either never been classed as "closed", just "mothballed", or will have their road crossings closed. Plus one of the options now is "Tram-Train", whereby the need for crossings is easier and much reduced, as well as potentially allowing trains to connect to the tramway near the old alignment and effectively, stop at Fleetwood Ferry, alleviating the need for a station at Three Lights. They continued to seek permissions until recently, but as it is now to be part of the network, seeking permission was, for now at least, deemed unnecessary. They "blew" absolutely NO cash on the Fowler shunter at all, as it was donated by Lancashire Enterprises Ltd and is now fully restored on a shoestring budget and far from "rotting" is fully operational. The DMU starts and runs quite regularly now and just for the record, the one option that is almost certainly NOT going to be an option is a tram on the branch, as the whole point is connectivity, which a tram totally defeats. I hope that clears up all your biased, incorrect, purely asserted and unfounded drivel. So to recap, wrong, wrong, nope, nah ah, wrong, wrong, wrong and..er...nah! Apart from that, a perfect score. Lol But thanks for your er... support!! Lol.
