There's my thoughts from a now retired life long professional mechanic . Andrew is ambitious , highly motivated young man running a one man operation . He might use some unconventional methods but he's always on his way up the learning curve and his methods are always results driven . The way a lot of young people are now days I'd be proud to call a young man like Andrew my son .

Andrew is a danger to himself. He takes too many chances and most often works alone. He wont last long the way he works. He is used to fixing small plant, but now he has the chance to work on heavy machinery. Yup he wont last long. Andrew does NOT work for a living now, he says that himself. He cannot price jobs correctly. His RU-vid channel earns him $500K+ per year and he lives off that. If you compare Andrew to Dirt Boss, it is night and day. Mike is very professional and successful and works on commercial sites. Andrew with his makeshift methodology would not be allowed anywhere near these sites. But nevertheless, Andrew is a successful RU-vidr and his haphazard approach is very entertaining. He knows how to keep his Viewers entertained!!

Both you and Andrew have the same goal, get the job done. I have a great deal of respect for both of you. Andrew's methods may be a little unorthodox. I've been a carpenter for 46 years. I started when a carpenter did all of the building including the foundation, framing, sheathing, insulating, you get the idea. There were no special building trades here in Maine in the 70's like there are today. I was trained to just get it done. Some of the methods are unorthodox and no one gets hurt. I've been called crazy many times.

Nice to know that Andrew puts out education videos to help other contractors in need of bush fix repairs! Next time, keep the track up with the 140 and use the truck to pull the roller off! 🤣🤣🤣 Mike, @33:01, the grease fitting box has paper columns on the top side. Use it to write the equipment name to match to the fitting column! Makes it easier to select the correct one...next time! 👍👍👍!

LOL……Proper Andrew protocol would have been to back a D7 up to it, attach the winch cable to the roller, then tow the roller……or the entire 750 …… all the way to Brown County.

🤔 wrong. Andrew would have thrown his chainsaw at it first.
@Larsema1
@Larsema1 2 года назад
..and then ties the 750 to a tree, and pulls it till the tree falls over the 750 and the winch breaks apart so the D7 rolls down a hill. Then he buys two new dozers for the next episode because the old ones broke down for no reason :D PS. I love his videos

Be careful hitting track rollers with a hammer. They are hardened steel and it's like hitting two hammers together. I had a small top roller chip a corner and go straight into my thigh. It took the surgeon four hours to find it an inch deep embedded in the muscle. I did under carriage work for years and most of use got hit by shrapnel driving track pins that required surgery to remove the pieces.
@gullreefclub
@gullreefclub 2 года назад
Lead hammers are a blessing when beating on hardened steel. Years ago I worked at a shop that some molds for lead hammers made by Cook Hammer. Since then I have cast my own using various things a molds but my preferred method is using copper tubing I have annealed to dead soft with a few copper nails used as rivets to hold everything together and cutting back the copper tubing slightly at either end. That said I have also used tin cans that I have slit and held together with wire or hose clamps

When I need to pull something hard like the roller in this vid, I try and use a tree or something heavy as an anchor and tension it with a come-along. Also I try and use chains as much as is possible to eliminate stretch. Once there’s a good bit of tension you can smack the part with a hammer and usually it’ll come right off. And there’s always the “Flame Persuader”.

I was a "swamper" on an old WWII era DC-7 on a pipeline job not long after high school. It was winter, so my job was to clean the undercarriage each evening, grease the tractor every day, and service the rollers once a week and start the engine with the 2 cylinder pony engine each morning. There is a trick in using that shovel.

I learned recently from reading forums on my Kioti that most foreign made equipment use grease fittings with British Standard Pipe Thread (BSPT). You can't buy these at Tractor Supply or at a auto parts store. A 10mm grease fitting won't fit my Kioti tractor unless I use a little extra force, which I hesitated to do. It was close but no cigar. It was hard to tell on the video what resistance you encountered when inserting your new zerk. As your Volvo was probably made in South Korean, you might have needed a 1/8-23 BSPT grease fitting. A 10mm could work in a pinch.

32:56 A really easy way to make sure you have the right grease zerk in the future is put a nut that fits the threads of each size of zerk and keep it in the compartment of the fitting box, so when you pull a bad zerk of a machine and go to your spares box, take the nut out of the compartment you think is the right size and try screwing it on the bad zerk - if it fits, that's the right size, if not try, try again...

Gentlemen, next time you use a chain or strap to pull anything out and a lot of tension has to be applied to a chain or strap, take another chain or strap and drape it several times over the chain or strap you are pulling with. What this does is if the chain or strap breaks or comes loose is absorbs the tension rebound energy caused by the break and reduces the backlash from the tension. It works , I , unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your view point know this from experience. Be safe keep up the good work, maintenance is the key to longevity of equipment.
