I talked about Rain World when I first played it in a "bite-size review" (uploaded last year). Now that I've beaten it and had time to digest, I feel like making a review in order to showcase the game to more people.
While it wasn't the right game for me, I know that there's a dedicated type of gamer out there who will enjoy it. I can appreciate so much about this game. I hope that others can at least appreciate it as well.

The official art will be plenty for your slugcat fix. (I started calling Leo a slugcat after I got more into the game.)

the sprite animation looks really good but sadly this seems like the kind of game that is hard for the sake of being hard but thankfully they did put in multiple difficulties

I read that the developers weren't thinking about difficulty when making the enemies, but just how the AI would make the creatures interact with the environment. Spawns are somewhat random as well, so you can have some really bad luck where the strongest enemies are blocking your path, or the best luck with no enemies on screen. Another cool that is that enemies can come and go between different screens, so let's say that it looks clear in one area. If you take too long, an enemy might walk in from the next screen over. Nothing is ever what it seems!

Alright, I’ll share a bit of my experience with rain world. I started playing rain world at the same time as a friend of mine (we played in the same room but not together) and we were completely blindsided by the difficulty of the game. We played about 20 hours together, discovering and sharing stuff together and it was some of the most straight up and stupid fun I have had with a game, then we dropped it. I didn’t come back until months later, because I knew that I needed to like it and get to know it for myself. Took me twenty hours after restarting to finish the game. The ending was incredible for me, I was awed and in silence for a good while after finishing it (it was also like 3 o clock at the night in my dorm room in Argentina) I currently have 160 hours in Rain World and have not yet finished the game (I have met nothing harder then rain world yet, and I have 112%ed HK) Rain world has sort of become a meditative experience for me, so incredibly immersive and real feeling. I plan to play this game for a long time to come (maybe just because of how hard it is 😂) Anyways, good review, I respect you putting in more effort then any of the critics when it first came out, though I still think your opinion is wrong (jokes, just because I adore Rain World) Have a great day!

First off, thanks for watching a couple of my videos and also taking time to comment. :) That's awesome that you were so enraptured by the game alongside your friend. With whatever my circumstances were when I played the game, I wasn't able to have that meditative experience, but I know exactly what you're talking about. Less of an "I have to beat this" mentality and more of an "I want to explore this" frame of mind would have made some of the later levels far more enjoyable. (The environments were outstanding.) I still enjoy looking at fan art or listening to the music from time to time. Thanks again for chiming in. I like hearing from the fans!

It just goes to show that there's a clear difference between interesting and fun. Games like this are educational... problem is that game developers aren't the one's playing them, we are. Game developers need to play this and learn from its flaws. I sorta felt similarly when I played Bannerlord in the end game, that end game is so unbelievably tedious and frustrated that I just quit and went straight to review the game even though I never conquered the whole map. It was a shame because I was having fun with Bannerlord for a while but that end game was absolutely horrendous, factions seemingly never dissolve and you are constant war from all sides with enemies that can get units super quickly and your allied AI does everything in its power to screw you by opposing your policies and forcing you to declare war/make peace via influence only for them to do absolutely nothing when the war happens. It's so unbelievably frustrating to deal with... to top it off, the game has permadetah from old age, while you can turn it off, if you forget to turn it off at the start, you can't turn it off in game, so when your character dies from old age, you have to find an heir and they are so underleveled that your momentum is lost completely and the enemy completely steamrolls you and you pretty much have to start all over again. I won't play this game.

I posted something interesting in my reply to BioPhoenix if you can scroll up. The developers clearly had fun in what they found interesting, but it just happened to be a niche interest. That's too bad with Bannerlord, but I do like the sound of the game. Fighting wars with different territories at your disposal sounds cool. I don't care too much for the way that Civilization does it.
