I have a couple interesting gameing concept channels I've subscribed to and watched lately: Jiggylookback - does "mystery" videos speculating on features of classic games, often on the N64 and rareware PlexiTier - analyzes games from a game dev perspective, esp. Sonic SummoningSalts - history of world records in gaming. The Tetris and Mario Kart 64 vids are awesome. Soda Crab - idk, I just like him. Falling Out of Love: Pokemon is a solid listen. That reminds me, on the topic of gaming vs. watching gaming content, I actually don't watch majority of my gaming / YT content; I listen. This is a deal breaker because oftentimes, it gives me something to do when I'm doing something I'd rather not be doing i.e. cleaning, laundry, cooking, driving, etc. In this way, I can be in both nexuses more frequently than one might think. You can't neglect content creation as the third facet of the gaming... "triforce" lol!

Just to throw one more in: HPRShredder - retro video style reviews and looks at NES games specifically. Particularly interesting since he didn't grow up with the system and his channel has been through something of a reboot. His Zelda videos are terrific.

I regret to inform you that I do end up watching more RU-vid than I do playing videogames but you have to consider that this is the only reason why I am able to watch your videos and many other people's videos. If all I did was play videogames, I wouldn't be able to watch your content. I've actually decided to tie the bulk of my gaming life into my RU-vid channel now to give my gaming experience more of a purpose. As you know I have no sympathy for any of these corproations, Square-Enix brought this upon themselves for making stupid business decisions, they released way too much arouns 2022 to the point that they were competing with themselves and barely anything in later years to bring in the money. Square-Enix shot themselves in the foot and they deserve the losses for their incompetance. They need to layoff all these "ethics departments" what a waste of money that is and the people that work in those departments are just trying to justify a wage packet so they are jobsworth morons who just want to mess with our games so to not upset snowflakes who need to get over themselves. I don't tend to watch fact based content creators who gather statistics and stuff. That sort of content doesn't interest me personally. I've given up on playing the youtube game and trying to follow the alogrithm, I just want to do what I want and see what happens. I mean I just ranked all the dungeons in Valkyrie Profile 2, then right after that I did a video of me playing Mario 64. It's not consistant at all, those videos target two different audiences but it doesn't really matter because my Valkyrie Profile 2 video did poorly anyway so I'm not losing anything by making something completely different. I think it only matters if you make a successful video so that you can ride the wave... but not every viral topic has that longevity. The thing that you're supposed to do is to make content that links to the most recent successful video so that people go from one video to the next, if you have people watch multiple videos in a row, RU-vid will push you hard but it's extremely difficult to do that, especially if you are the sort of person who makes videos for purpose. It's like you have to make a video for the sake of making a video just to win nowadays, it's stupid.

Something that I forgot to mention - and it relates to the traps, Nintendo Directs, and consistent uploading - is how even the gaming news channels are bogged down by the "need" to upload at least weekly. The quality of certain channels that I used to tune into for monthly uploads has lessened because they're caught up in the same routine as all of the other "successful" channels. I'm not trying to be sanctimonious or going to go out of my way to make others change, but people who are habitually online would truly benefit from disconnecting from the constant uproar of social media every now and then. The particular wording of a given headline may change, but the news never really does. Everything everywhere works in cycles. When you step back far enough to see how it all blurs together, you might wonder, "Why did I spend so much time obsessing over that daily?"

Here are my comments for the second watch-through of this video lol: 15:33 I really liked the final boss fight in Tears of the Kingdom. If I was going to include epilogue, then yeah I wouldn't rate it as high. But boss fight alone, its the best boss fight across all the Zelda games for me. 17:47 This image was great 🤣 29:08 Yes! Link's Awakening DX is over rated haha 34:35 You dodged a bullet not playing Tri Force Heroes. It's easily the worst Zelda game ever. 38:53 I love Zelda 2 now, it's a great reminder how much easier games have gotten since the 80s. I wish Nintendo could explore more of the RPG elements in this game for a future title. 41:07 I rather play Phantom Hourglass all over again than Link's Awakening. Funny enough, this was my first Zelda game I ever purchased with my own money. I even owned the golden DS Lite for it back then. I enjoyed it at the time but now I don't share those same feelings. 42:54 You are a real champ for making it all the way to Ganon without the "Silver Arrows" lol 47:44 Oracle games are truly fantastic, you forgot to mention the code linking and how you can transfer/upgrade items across the games, plus you can fight the true final boss for both games. I too prefer Oracle of Ages over Seasons. 52:08 No one likes Skyward Sword which is pretty disappointing. I aim to revisit it this Summer and prove how good the game is. I think it only got a bad wrap because of the motion controls, but you seemed to handle those pretty well. 53:27 Link Between Worlds needs to be talked about more! Nintendo should bring it back for the Switch, truly a hidden gem for the 3DS. 56:30 Man I can't believe you ranked Twilight Princess so low compared to Majora's Mask... lol 59:55 Master Quest version of OoT is my favorite too, I love how the dungeons are very different. 1:01:48 This is where I have to disagree with you. BOTW is not a game I would put so high on my personal list for way too many reasons. TOTK does rank much higher for me but overall, BOTW really disappointed me in the end. The game has no replay value. I have no desire to spend 100hrs+ all over again playing through the game, whereas every other Zelda title down to Zelda 1, I would gladly repla anytime of the year because they all fit within a reasonable replay window and I am guaranteed that great classic Zelda experience every time. 1:03:39 I personally could never jive with Majora's Mask. The game felt so unnatural to me, like it wasn't Zelda even though all the same assets were used from OoT. I know its a fan favorite for a bunch but I consider this game more of a black sheep than Zelda 2. 1:05:53 Like I mentioned above, I was really impressed with the improvements done in ToTK that I would rank it now higher on my list. I still won't replay this game or go spend 200+ hrs in it, but I think the story, gameplay, and world design was much better than BOTW. I'm waiting for the soundtrack to release so I can give it a full listen but as of now, I believe BOTW wins with sound design. 1:08:56 Hyrule Warriors DE is my favorite Zelda spin-off. You can truly feel the love put into the game from the devs with all these references from across the Zelda games. Don't go into Age of Calamity the same though, I personally did not enjoy it after beating it. You might love that game since you are a BOTW + TOTK fan boy haha This is why I enjoy watching your videos, you give genuine, honest opinions from your personal experiences. Also, even if you don't enjoy the older titles as much, you can still point out some good things about them and recognize their importance across the other titles. Great breakdown my friend, I need to finish my video now haha
@TheLegendofLeo
@TheLegendofLeo 15 дней назад
Haha, I'll reply in kind! Yeah, Tears had both fairly fun combat in its final boss fight AND an exhilarating moment mid-fight. (Also, does the pre-boss-fight encounter count? Because that was insane the first time that I saw it.) A golden DS Lite sounds awesome. If you're able to find Spirit Tracks for cheap, that would be a fun one to try out. Controlling Zelda is truly unique for the series, and the dungeons are pretty good right up until the end of the game. Getting around the world and getting access to the temples are what killed the game for me. I linked Ages after beating Seasons! That was awesome to be able to experience all of those minor changes and the true ending. It's okay with TotK--I don't think that Nintendo plans on you replaying it anyway. (I'm being facetious, but it's very surprising to me that they never released DLC for it. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?) I was already let down by Age of Calamity in the first 30 minutes! Maybe it was not having an OLED Switch, but the frame rate in the tutorial mission was shockingly horrendous. I ended up putting the game down for whatever reason, but I'll get back to it and try to enjoy it fully. Thanks for watching intently and for all of your commentary. :) I wanted to make this a great video for fans of the series. You sharing your experiences is exactly the type of interaction that I'd hoped for. Good luck with your video! I'll be waiting.

Great video and ranking, Zelda is a series that means a lot to me since it's one of the ones that got me heavily into gaming. The adventure, puzzles and general creativity is the reason I love this series and it's still the one series from Nintendo I always look forward to a new game from (outside of Wario Land, which sadly they don't make many :( ). My top 10 of the series are (from favorite to the tenth): 1. Link's Awakening 2. Minish Cap 3. Majora's Mask 4. Wind Waker 5. Oracle of Seasons 6. Oracle of Ages 7. Zelda 1 8. Ocarina of Time 9. Tears of the Kingdom 10. Breath of the Wild I think what I like about ranking of this series is that to every person every game will mean something different and in a way it shows what they are into with games, I like mix of uniqueness in the world, characters or story, as well as easy to get into gameplay, even with difficult learning curve to learn like time management in Majora's Mask :)

@TheLegendofLeo 15 дней назад
Thank you for watching and for joining in on the fun! I'm glad that you highlighted the adventure aspect in your reply. I know that everyone knows that these are adventure games, but what you mostly hear about when people compare the series is the puzzles. Majora's Mask aside, my list is basically ranked by how much I enjoyed the adventuring aspect in every game. Wow, Link's Awakening reigns supreme, eh? Is that from the Gameboy and up to the Switch? Or one version in particular? I get what you mean about being able to glean people's interests when you see their rankings. You clearly don't mind getting lost and having to figure things out on your own! Did you play A Link Between Worlds? I feel like it should fit right in around the Oracle games for you.

Alright, I’ll share a bit of my experience with rain world. I started playing rain world at the same time as a friend of mine (we played in the same room but not together) and we were completely blindsided by the difficulty of the game. We played about 20 hours together, discovering and sharing stuff together and it was some of the most straight up and stupid fun I have had with a game, then we dropped it. I didn’t come back until months later, because I knew that I needed to like it and get to know it for myself. Took me twenty hours after restarting to finish the game. The ending was incredible for me, I was awed and in silence for a good while after finishing it (it was also like 3 o clock at the night in my dorm room in Argentina) I currently have 160 hours in Rain World and have not yet finished the game (I have met nothing harder then rain world yet, and I have 112%ed HK) Rain world has sort of become a meditative experience for me, so incredibly immersive and real feeling. I plan to play this game for a long time to come (maybe just because of how hard it is 😂) Anyways, good review, I respect you putting in more effort then any of the critics when it first came out, though I still think your opinion is wrong (jokes, just because I adore Rain World) Have a great day!

First off, thanks for watching a couple of my videos and also taking time to comment. :) That's awesome that you were so enraptured by the game alongside your friend. With whatever my circumstances were when I played the game, I wasn't able to have that meditative experience, but I know exactly what you're talking about. Less of an "I have to beat this" mentality and more of an "I want to explore this" frame of mind would have made some of the later levels far more enjoyable. (The environments were outstanding.) I still enjoy looking at fan art or listening to the music from time to time. Thanks again for chiming in. I like hearing from the fans!

I really wish Final Fantasy Tactics would always be included along with the "mainline" titles. It really deserves to be considered a mainline title with how good the quality of that game is especially its story. Seems so arbitrary that an MMO can be considered a "mainline" entry just because it has a number attached to its name but Final Fantasy Tactics isn't included only because it doesn't have one. Honestly if an MMO can be a "mainline" title then definitely a tactics strategy based game can. Also if we're being really technical, final fantasy 12 is a SPINOFF of TACTICS if we're being really honest. so then if FF12 is mainline, surely Tactics by nature should be as well.
@TheLegendofLeo
@TheLegendofLeo 2 месяца назад
I hear you. I thought that Final Fantasy should have ditched their mainline numbering a long time ago, but so few people care about the numbers beyond reasons like for the purposes of this video. Ivalice is my favourite of the FF worlds, so I'd be more interested in spin-offs located there than in FFs 17, 18, etc. Look at how sales indicate that just as many people care about FF7's retelling than they do 16. There would probably be a similar amount of interest in a Tactics remake. My point is that I don't think the mainline numbering means much to people anymore, so if you want to put certain games ahead of it or make your own exceptions, then go ahead.

Compilations are always a nice way to conveniently play those classics. So my question for you is do you consider the Switch online membership with classics a “Digital Compilation” of sorts and are those the best ways to play those games? (Like when you talked “3rd party” emulation vs Nintendo Emulation VS original hardware( which I know doesn’t count as compilation in most cases).
@TheLegendofLeo
@TheLegendofLeo 2 месяца назад
That's a good question! I don't view it as a compilation, but it essentially serves the same purpose. I think the lack of ownership bothers me more than the fact that the games aren't specifically marketed as a compilation. You'll have to tell me if the online subscription is one of the best ways to play those games. I never actually downloaded any old games on there! It's too difficult for me to know for sure whether 3rd party emulation or official collections are the way to go. I think that official collections are better most of the time, but it's very much a case-by-case basis. If the collection includes really retro games or games from different consoles, you'd be hard pressed to beat that convenience, and you'd have to appreciate the fact that everything could run perfectly (ideally) on your current, modern system.

The emulation question is worth considering. I’m playing Zelda 2 side by side on Switch and on my PC and there are certain textures ie in dark caves that can’t be made out in the switch version. It isn’t too big but it’s not trivial either. My favorite compilation is definitely Rare Replay. HD ports and remasters of the 64 games, unlockable interviews, a lot of love was put into it.

Wow, 30 games in that Rare Replay. That's how you do it! I understand not always being able to do 1:1 ports or even 1:1 emulation, and it's fine in Zelda 2's case since Nintendo isn't upselling the game. What the heck was Rockstar doing with their GTA collection?! That was inexcusable. I wonder how much has been fixed there.

Those are great! The Genesis one is worth it if you get the full game on sale . My favorite compilation is TMNT Cowabunga collection. I love how it has every version of every TMNT game from every console and arcade; even Gameboy. I wish we'd get more compilations like that

I think the most important compilation for me is Final Fantasy Anthology since it introduced me to Final Fantasy V. Sadly there aren't many compilations out there for the games I like.

These are very different from (most of) the puzzle games I play. I do want to check out boxboy at some point though, it is also on switch I think.

As you know, I can def vouch for Tetris DS - there’s several modes that can give hours of fun and replay. I’m pretty sure I have played Pokémon Puzzle League in my childhood but I can’t properly remember since I also played the game boy color version. Great series regardless!
@TheLegendofLeo

If you do jump back into the Puzzle League series, I recommend avoiding the GBC one! I can't remember my complaints exactly, but I believe it just felt stiffer and slower than the N64 game. I'm gonna try Tetris Attack before the year's over. I'll let you know how that is 🧐🥸

would you say its worth it to play this before azran legacy? I have about 8 hrs into that game already and all the reviews say to play this first..

I think that the puzzles and mini games are worth playing if you have the time. If you're more concerned about the story, then reading a summary should suffice. The presentation for the story was fine, and some of the characters were charming, but nothing story-related was spectacular. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm happy to help you!

Even a beginner like myself wouldn't subject myself to the torment of playing these games. I'm that bad at puzzles. the top 2 though, they're a bit different, those types of puzzle games I don't mind, since they're not cryptic, they're more about racking up combos but I'm still bad at them so... yeah.

Haha, is that so? Well at least you can tolerate the action puzzles. What's the hardest pure puzzle game that you've ever tried?

I’ll try box boy as it has always intrigued me. So yes I’ll play a new game. As far as puzzle games go, I really do enjoy them a lot. The key is variety so I go from playing professor Layton to Tetris Attack to Thomas Was Alone to Mario Vs Donkey Kong and get completely different experiences within the “same” genre.
