Each singer that was in Rainbow had thier own identity. They did not try to copy each other but sang it in thier style. Whether it was Dio, Bonnet , Turner.... they were all great when thier time was up....
👍❤, indeed. I did not know of him till today. His 'Disco singer look' is what flips me, on top of his baddass talent. Great to see this, for I am both Rock and Disco.Dude was badd.
@King of Dreams bro!!!! i signed in to make this same comment, then noticed you already did lol. the funny part it's only 2 days late. you suck, but you are right, we found his alias yt account
@@johnstonedavis1792 Been playing since ‘76 and I have always thought this as well. Ed always mentioned Cream era Clapton as his inspiration. Don’t know if I hear that in his playing. I do hear some Blackmore influences, and Ed would have heard plenty of Purple and even Rainbow.
@@donkost it's got a lot of way they use the wammy and how they align there distortion and feedback in the sound they are looking for and they both can walk up and down the nick with precision
Graham had to know he had big shoes to fill covering Dio, but he did it his way because he knew Dio was someone different, and he was now the frontman for Rainbow. It seems unfair for so many to bash him for not parroting Ronnie James, it’s apples and oranges. I think it took major guts to do songs like this or Stargazer knowing the criticism that would follow. Hats off to Graham Bonnet for being true to himself!
He has the range to do justice to Dio's songs without having to try to sound like a carbon copy of Dio. No one can ever replace Dio but Rainbow still had some great music after him.
Graham had, has a powerful voice. He hits high notes so easily. You have to remember, Graham was never a "metal" singer prior to Rainbow. He was more into R+B. To come into a situation like this was a very big change in styles. Yet, he pulled it off very well. If you truly listened, you'd agree that he has a powerful voice and can hi the high notes with ease. I thought he did the impossible by making hits with Rainbow.
WE ROCKED IT! The '70's were awesome! One such group was Rainbow! That is to say ONE SUCH GROUP! There were so many! They evolved into other groups but their beginnings were in the '70's. MY generation and the GREATS of that time
You didn’t rock anybody Arlene. You got passed around bon fires like a bag of skittles while Bad Company was playing. Don’t you dare take credit for music from that era. You did nothing.
These plastic fans couldn't even respect Graham Bonnet, what a waste of internet space smh. dude was massively underrated and have a unique voice as well.
I've always thought Graham was a masterful vocalist. But in the case of the Man on Silver Mountain, Ron owned this song. Listen to this isolated vocal track of Ron. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SEF9VWjhzOk.html. It's just awesome.
When I saw Rainbow many moons ago Joe Lynn Turner was the vocalist and they kicked azz. I never knew this guy singing in this video was ever part of the band. Another great singer, Blackmore had the knack for picking the perfect band members.
Every incarnation of this band!! Every singer was very different from the last. Completely changed musical direction several times. I have found something I love in all of it.
Song was definitely not written with Graham in mind. However, I have always found it fascinating that listening to Rainbow with Dio/Bonnet/Turner is like listening to three different bands all great in their own right.
Man, who knew?! I never would've thought that Jim Carrey could sing this good!😂 Seriously though, Graham Bonnet never got the recognition he deserved, the man could and still can sing! Awesome voice!
I had this on 8-track and listened to it in my ‘72 firebird back in ‘76. I was 16 and worked 3 jobs all at the same time during high school to buy that car.
My first car had an 8 track too. It was an Olds Cutlass with a 455. Nothing like listening to your favorite jam to hear it start fading and then CLICK!!! It’s back. Did “Dazed and Confused “ take you back like it did me?
Fastest car i ever drove was a 72 firebird...it was a friends, we were about 18 years old back in 1984, he was to drunk to drive and I laid rubber with it everywhere that night .....good times
Agreed, he's struggling in places because he was brought and had to learn all the songs. These were Dio's songs, his lyrics, naturally his delivery of his own songs is better. Equally his delivery of 'All Night Long' or 'Since You've Been Gone' wouldn't have been as good as Graham's.
všetci sú zvyknutí na Ronnieho Dia, preto ho toľko kritizujú a aj preto že po Diovi nastúpil Graham. Nemal to ľahké. Nastúpiť po takom velikánovi, akým bol Ronnie. Ale Graham sa toho zhostil na výbornú.
@@donaldsalkovick396 His style and tone I love. Sure technically there’s probably better guitarists. To my ears Blackmore is great. Nothing flashy. Listen to some Rainbow songs the solos are great.
@@johnoberle9750 yeh he a pioneer of metal or hard rock one might say. Many of the newer more technical guitar players when asked usually will tell you they studied the styles of Blackmore and the other greats of the time. Yngwie Malmsteen is one that comes right to mind having mentioned Blackmore as an influence on several occasions.
That's probably because he bad mouthed every really talented guitar player and still expected everyone to take him seriously. He actually thinks he plays better than Stevie Ray Vaughn.
I have always liked this band, like Styx Boston foreigner, foghat, bands from that Era, they just fit in as one of the greats.their songs are not forgettable.

@@based9930 i read your comment and I thought, "WHAT?" so I went back and sure as shit, his vocal are sucking, he's barely hitting notes. maybe his voice was tired from shows, who knows. But to say he's killing it, naw.
The original Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington, 1980 I have the original album with two Rainbow tracks, All Night Long and Stargazer. I have to say, that version of Stargazer with Graham singing is absolutely incredible.
I’ve learned two things. This Graham fellow sang for Rainbow and did a damn fine job. And this isn’t the only time Ritchie has done the false start to this tune. Found a video of him playing with Dio where he does the Lazy/ragtime medley as an intro.
Yes, it's really Dio's song. Yes, Did sang it the best out of anyone who's attempted to perform it live. Even so, I'm impressed at how well Graham Bonnet managed to deliver the vocals in this performance. He's not Ronnie James Dio, but damn guys-- give him credit for a decent job here. If you were at this show-- it still sounds pretty damn cool, and I don't think most of the fans left this concert thinking it sucked or were disappointed with the band that night.
He did it quite well for not being Dio! Now, I would never purchase or play this version intentionally, but having heard it now, Bonnet deserves a job well done for making the utmost effort. He just ain't Ronnie! Nobody can do Ronnie but Ronnie! RIP Mr. DIO, you made this world a much better place, and left a legacy that will never be forgotten!
Yes, it's really Ronnie James Dio's song. With all my respect to Gram Bonnet it's not his song. "Not his song" is from the words "at all". Graham Bonnet doesn't _understand_ what's this song about. He's just singing while Dio was living in it.
No, he isn't Dio but who is? You don't replace the mighty Ronnie James Dio. That's just impossible. Still, Graham Bonnet managed to take the song and make it his own while still doing justice here. That's really all anyone can ask for.
Dude honestly does a killer job. I honestly think it's the clean cut look that's throwing people off. The dude's being himself at least And nothing wrong with that!
Wow. I've only heard Dio sing this song. And then I saw the dude in the thumbnail and thought it would be cute to hear someone else sing it. Not too shabby.
@@metalmike570 Amen! Dio maybe the greatest metal singer I’ve ever heard . And I know it is an opinion but it’s the most powerful and gifted vocals I can think of . And I’ve heard them all.
@@salt27dogg He's a favorite to many but his time has come. I liked Layne Staley too, he has a lot of power and was taken way too soon. There are many that are great and some are gone; I like to go to concerts it's that time of the year again. I have some lined up, and these singers aren't where Dio was in level. I am going to Iron Maiden in October and Bruce is still good, glad I'm going!
Someone once told Graham Bonnet not to quit his day job, and he took that to heart. He came straight from his cubicle to the show. Still an amazing performance though, fr fr.
Absolutely brilliant and draw dropping. This sends a chill down my spine. This is what pure rock and roll is all about. A big shout out to the cinematographer. Black and white and classic rock. a real classic!
man, I got to see so many great acts at the capitol. what a fantastic memory generator utub has become. thank you for posting so many concerts I got to attend as a youth...
Thats the thing I love how he has his unique style in this genre. Think about it... everyone tried to look rough this guy got his own identity with a suit and short hair aswell as his sun glasses and did it so well. It works it looks great and he has a stellar voice.
I agree. Bonnet was better on the songs in his era. Only Dio can do this. I think Bonnet's voice was not very strong and he often had issues with staying in key as compared to Dio's.
One of the most underrated hard rock vocalists of all time. Such incredible articulation overall. This was very good here but was definitely not his best. Look out though when he did his own Rainbow pieces (eg: "All Night Long", "Since You've Been Gone" or "Lost in Hollywood") its brilliant. And after Rainbow he forms Alcatraz with Yngwie... Surprised they didn't do more together. Back to 1979. Dio has parted a year earlier because Ritchie wanted to go commercial and Dio did not. OK, I can go with that. So Ritchie (probably with encouragement from bass player Roger Glover who knew talent when he saw it; producing and directing talent for - 'Nazareth' and 'Judas Priest' among others) gets Graham Bonnet, a brilliant singer who fits Ritchie's commercial bill, well almost! Now remember this is Ritchie Blackmore we are talking about. Basically (and this is more or less coming from Ritchie himself) he cans Graham after a year because Graham won't grow his hair long! As far as I'm concerned, Rainbow was never less than "Ritchie Blackmore's" Rainbow as their debut album depicted. He always wants to play God in whatever venture he is in and he didn't care about who was in or out (and there were many!). I don't care how big his reputation is, I would NEVER work with him If I were genuinely good enough to do so. He is a great player, though his tone has always been way too thin. What always shocked me was the fact that Roger Glover actually joined Rainbow in '79 after Ritchie (and ONLY) Ritchie kicked him out of Deep Purple in 1973! But Really Dio to Bonnet to - well who else would you want? Joe Lynn Turner (Bonnet's successor) was and remains a capable and respectable singer but is not in the mix with Dio and Bonnet. No chance. At this point grey skies replace Rainbow and they are done, IMO.
