Now after watching this video I will be getting my Rainbow out today for a spin around the house. I do agree with what you said about the handle as I've have said its a little strange but also useful. I paid a lot of money for this vac and yes it does a good job but water in water out and all that I keep grabbing other vacs to use. I do tend to go for upright vacs but the canister vac does come in handy. Great video mate.

Hello, I came across your channel by accident as I tried to show my German partner this great Maschine that I remember from my childhood back in Poland. My mom and dad bought it in early nineties and we used it for a good 20 years. None of the vacuumes I ever bought as an adult compare to this beast. Thanks so much for recording this! Best regards 😊

Hi, you’re absolutely welcome and I’m glad you found the channel, welcome to the max world of HooverLux 🤣. That rainbow was borrowed from a friend, but I do hope one day to get my own. Thank you so much for you lovely comment Matylda, hope to hear from you again 🙏🏻

Great video. I love my rainbow. The only maintenance for the past 20 some years is a new belt. FYI: set the water tub on the roller so that the hose is directly above a wheel and it won't tip over.

This was just borrowed, but I hope to find one of my own one day. Thanks for the tip too 🤗🤗🤗

The piece on the bottom that keeps the water out is called the separator. I've read it's good enough to keep water out even if tipped but not sure about that my self. I have a newer E series from about 2007 and I think it's base is wider. The instructions say to not store the water basin on the machine. It does groom very well and has great air flow. Due to the extra steps I have had mine since last fall and only used it about three times and have not yet tested the shampooer out yet. I've heard the air flow result in faster drying carpets when you shampoo with it.

Hi Ryan❣️, I’d love a newer model to try, wish I was there to do the demos with you.

Someone has probably said what I will say but, like wet and dry vacs these units have what is called a bypass cooled motor. The air coming in from the basin is separate from the cooling air for the motor windings. The motor proper is in the upper housing and pulls air into the motor through that top slot that runs the perimeter below the switch and handle and exits through another circular slot just above the power nozzle outlet. The vacuumed air goes into the basin, through the separator, into the vac fans and out the back port or around the bottom of the machine just above the basin. If you tip it, the separator, like its name keeps the water sepated from going into the fans. Every Rainbow since the original D4 up to the E2 Black version 2, for sure (I've seen an exploded diagram of the SRX motor and it's a bit different in layout, but the same idea applies) have all used bypass motors like this.

Hi there, thanks for the info. I had this on loan from a mate and was the first and only time I had one, but I’m always looking out for one of my own and it would be fun to fix up, now I know where to come if I do 🤗. Thanks for you lovely message 👍

Yeah, unfortunately they didn’t take off as they were just soooo expensive and faffy, like a Kirby.

I love my rainbow. It's the only vac I use besides my v6 for a quick pick up here and there. I think if it had the stiffer black brush strips it would've gotten even more out of the carpet. Those white ones look like they would he way softer. It still got a heck of a lot out of the carpets though. Great job on the video. I am also goi g to try the drill polisher on my rainbow when I get a chance. We used to polish the outside of them at the office I worked at with some armour all. But that one looks almost as brand new like it did when it came out of the box in the 90's.

Hey Danny, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. It was fun to use and yes, the stiffer brushroll may have been a bit better, but it still did an awesome job. I can’t recommend using the drill attachment and some cutting compound on these plastics, it doesn’t get rid of all the scratches, but it certainly makes it look like new with that shine.

this comment is late but rainbows have something called a “spider “ and what it does it prevents water from going in the motor so you have nothing to fear (great demonstration I love the carpet lines)

Hey buddy, glad you enjoyed the video. This system is something I’d have to get used to, like autonomous driving cars, I want to take my hands off the wheel, but vacuuming with water still makes me nervous 😬🤣

Just listening to the motors run it’s evident that they are both smooth running motors. To this day the tonality of the powernozzle tops anything else in the business. They may not be the quietest machines but that kind of smoothness comes from using bearings made of quality and implementing them everywhere that they should be but often aren’t. Rainbow’s repair record shows them to be the most reliable machine made mechanically. That doesn’t mean that you won’t need to replace a hose or coupling that doesn’t exist on a Kirby due to the difference of their configurations. A Kirby for example wouldn’t have an electric hose.... The repair records are so close that it’s really a toss up.
@HooverLux

The quality is definitely there and you feel it in the quality, not to say this older machine wouldn’t break if manhandled, but compared to the majority of the cheap made stuff today, that old girl is unsurpassed.

@@HooverLux The main unit motor has a characteristically tenor-baritone sound to it, and it's been like that from the Rexair type A and model B to that model (D4 SE PN2) before Rexair went to an outsourced motor for the E one-speed. That thing was shrill but then Rexair started using SR motors in later e2 series which came back to a tenor sound and now the SRX is a smooth sounding higher pitch again, not unlike the E series one speeds.

I found this awesome machine left behind in a rental and I knew not to add water so I ran it dry in my garage/shop where I have a lot of dusty carpet to keep clean. Over time I noticed only "big stuff" being collected in the dry bin and that the machine was seeming more and more full of fine dust. So, I started investigating more when I realized it was supposed to have water where I had been so feverishly looking for a filter!!! Now, I'm concerned about the condition of my machine and whether I should have it cleaned out of the dust i blew into it before I do so as too I don't make mud inside my beloved machine! What do you think?
@HooverLux
@HooverLux 4 года назад
Oooooh erm 🤣. Don’t worry as it’s not a vac you see everyday, I’d have done the same. You’d be surprised at now little or hardly any water gets inside the motor, so you should be fine. If you have another means of blowing the dust that might me on the inside. Are you confident enough to start taking it apart? There are some how to videos online, check out Performance Reviews, he is amazing with these machines and has some vids of them in his channel. You can message him on the videos and he will direct you to some how to videos. Pls feel free to message. Take care and stay safe 😷

@@HooverLux Usually you just take the bottom end of the motor apart and wash it. They're built to be pulled apart as the motors in these machines are held together with metal clasps. It's not difficult, but is time consuming. Take digital photos along the way to show how it came apart and documenting the screws as they vary in length and there are at least twenty of them.

Hmmmm 🤔 I'm surprised about that floor head I thought with the size it is it would have been heavy but as you said it isn't very but at least it leaves grooves in the carpet but again cleaning and emptying it out same as last time and I'm only watching it I think it would give me the boak due to touching the wet soggy fur!! 😨😨😂 Lol but that was a good idea putting fabric softener in the water tho I sometimes put a small handful of the lenor fabric pearls in the hoover bin and that makes your vacuum smell nice so it does either put them in yourself or hoover a handful up!!! Better than using shake and vac at times too I mind I used to do that sometimes as well!! 😘😁😁 Anyway great video look forward to the next 1 as always! 😘🤗🤗💋
@HooverLux

I always used to use shake n vac or the nutradol version of it. I’ve had so many people tell me not to use that stuff as it’s really no good lol. I used to go though bottles of the stuff 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I used to buy shake n vac all the time but now it's very rare you see it anywhere now!! If lucky Poundland maybe sell it I think!! Hence why I started using the lenor pearls!! N they are nice so they are!!! Xx

That's unusual for a 220-240v Rainbow to have that American big black switch. Here in mainland Europe all D4 rainbows have a red rocker switch like a Henry and also an additional circuit breaker reset button on the opposite end of the handle. Maybe that one is a early UK version?

No idea, too complicated and not worth it like the Kirby version, it’s just putting down suds and hoping once dry the stains go, you’re better off hiring a Rug Doctor.
