56postoffice I know, because they are so patronising and “ dumbed down” by political correctness and “ diversity” is thrust down their throats everyday, all the innocence is gone from their programmes - even Thomas The Tank Engine is getting a PC makeover by the UN, which I think is terrible. Real life social issues factual stuff should never enter fictional stuff for kids, that’s for documentaries and other factual programmes for kids and adults.

@@jane1975 in tone and sensitivity, kids shows are nearly the same. They seem more cloying and "PC" because you're jaded and old, and also not 5. Rainbow and say, Creative Galaxy for example are pretty much identical in purpose. One seems better because one had a lovely theme song and some nostalgia for you, and one is from 2014. Calm your jets sweetheart and stop watching Caillou. It's that simple.

Never heard of Caillou, whatever that is and how ageist of you - I am 44 that makes me "jaded and old" does it? I thought children's programmes became patronising in the 1990's and I was a teenager then, nothing to do with age and everything to do with involving politics in everything-I used to be a great Dr Who fan, totally ruined now- children's programmes are innocent and should be free of any "real life" political issues in them, they are escapism for children as are their toys. If I had been able to have children, they certainly wouldn't be watching the crap they broadcast to them today, I would rather they were watching my Bagpuss DVD than the garbage that's passes for Children's TV today.

I spent my formative years during the 70s and 80s, but remember this programme very well. Now in my early fifties!

spiro14 I loved Playschool too, I don’t remember it ever being about school at all, at least there was none of that patronising crap that kids listen too and watch today full of PC garbage.

I was born in 1970, so much older than you. Rainbow is a childhood memory along with other 70s TV programmes. Modern equivalents aren't a patch on the 70s vintage!

I used to watch Thames television on nick jr when I was younger but I still like the Thames television logo even though it was my childhood.

Sesame Street did air on U.K. television, first with test runs in some regions on ITV in the 1970’s and early 1980’s, but officially it was taken by Channel 4 and broadcast between 1987 to 2001 and was replaced by The Hoobs.

neil73 The man has just passed away at the aged 76, but people have to earn a living especially if they have family and when Thames Television lost its franchise he would of been “laid off”, it would of been sadder if he hadn’t had a job at all- have some respect.
