Seriously one of the most underrated songs of all time. This is music production perfection from start to finish, everything from the big lead kick stomping out the intro leading into the growling guitar riffs, beefy basslines, humble electric toms, elevating synths with everything perfectly panned and balanced, every instrument and voice heard as an equal within it's own sonic space. The rebellious lyrics paired with a defiant instrumental, the way it explodes from the first bridge into that 3rd verse and let's not forget that electric guitar work on the outro... The band, writer, singer and mixing/mastering engineer(s) should all be hailed for this absolute masterpiece.
This song, about 18 years ago costed me roughly $800.00. I was "coasting" at 95 in a 40, that Black '88 Pontiac 6000 magically grew another set of wheels, my foot turned into lead, the music took over. Me: "Well, Good Morning Officer." Him: "Do you know that you were doing 95 in a 40?" Me: "Yes Sir, I figured it looked better than 135, I backed out of it about a mile back." (With a cocky grin) Him: (Blank Expression)
I used to dream about how it would be When I would be older, when I'd really be free When no one would tell me how to live my life How to waste my days, how to spend my nights (my nights!) But I finally decided, yes, I finally decided I'm finding out the hard way Exactly what I want to say, I want to say I'm old enough to rock and roll, I'm old enough I'm old enough to rock and roll, I'm old enough To rock and roll, gonna rock, gonna rock Gonna rock! They tell me I'm young and I don't know What's the right thing to do, the right way to go They're so afraid I'm gonna let them down I'm gonna mess things up when I mess around But I finally decided, I finally decided It's my responsibility, I don't need nobody, don't need no one I don't need anyone but me I'm old enough to rock and roll, I'm old enough I'm old enough to rock and roll, I'm old enough To rock and roll Can't you see I'm changing? My smile is rearranging I'm taking full control You can't ignore me anymore And now I believe I have finally arrived, I'm young and alive, I'm in my prime No one can stop me cause I'm on my way Gonna do what I do, gonna have my say I'm old enough to rock and roll, I'm old enough I'm old enough to rock and roll, I'm old enough! Now I believe I have finally arrived, I'm young and alive, I'm feeling fine! No one can stop me cause I'm on my way Gonna do what I do, gonna have my say And I finally decided, yes I decided, I finally decided It's my responsibility I don't need anyone but me I'm old enough to rock and roll, I'm old enough! I'm old enough to rock and roll, I'm old enough! I'm old, I'm old, I'm old enough I'm bad enough, I'm strong enough I'm old enough to rock and roll, to rock and roll!
