Thanks for watching! Brad and his team are a wealth of knowledge and terrific to work with. I saved up for my tank and love it, but plastic is a terrific option as well. So glad the video offered some inspiration for your water harvesting journey. You’ve got this!🙌

Nice video. Rainwater is the best. I use it in my little 500 gallon goldfish pond and then use the pond water in my greenhouse. The salt in city water will poison greenhouse soil because it doesn't get rain to flush the salt. City water also grows more algae in my pond because it has a higher pH (9.0) and has more particulate matter in it. My tanks are grey plastic and it does not look as good as metal. Metal costs more for sure. Plastic is lighter and easier to move if needed. I have a rain garden and when more rain is coming and I need to empty my tanks, I drain them into the rain garden. If I want to water plants, I use a garden hose to gravity fill a 50 gallon trash bin and use a watering can to water the plants. i agree first flush diverters are a pain. i took mine off. I live in the DFW area and during that horrible winter when we all lost power my tanks did ok. I think I emptied them and opened all the valves so that the connectors would not break.

Plant ninja great information. Wow how can a state own water in the clouds.
@theplantninja-texasgardener
Thanks Don! Appreciate you hanging in there for the whole video(it’s a long one!). I was really shocked to learn that several states restrict rainwater harvesting, especially with all the other moves towards becoming more sustainable. Let me know if you decide to move forward with a tank or barrel! 🙌
@ElizabethWevodau-Rodrigu-rb7up
Very interesting and educative video. I wish they have tanks like this in my country, specially in the areas where water isn’t very accessible. Great job!
@theplantninja-texasgardener
Thanks so much Elizabeth! You can make similar tanks using less expensive materials like a 55gallon trash can. Some really great accessible options out there…I just wanted mine to be pretty 😜

11:08 Can 304 and 316 stand unprocessed rain water acidity?
@theplantninja-texasgardener
@theplantninja-texasgardener 4 месяца назад
I reached out to the co-owner and here is his response: “Rainwater is about 5.0 - 5.6 pH. Wine, which is fermented in stainless steel vessels, can be under 3.0! Coffee is brewed in stainless steel carafes and that’s more acidic than rainwater. Most appliances and kitchen sinks are made from 304 stainless steel. 316 stainless steel is also referred to as marine grade. This has nothing to do with pH, but with salts (chloride) which is more corrosive. “ Hopefully that answers your question! Feel free to reach out to Texas Metal Tanks for further questions if you’re considering one!
