Karen Carpenter didnt need to show off with vocal acrobatic like today's singers. She is one of the rare few who was blessed with an exception and unique gift, who burned so bright and died too young.
she had a 4 octave range, and COULD sing "high" if she wanted to.... it was her tone, her perfect diction and enunciation, the way she told the story of every song, perfect in every way...
@@tomschmitz5745 Wikipedia page: Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950 - February 4, 1983) was an American singer and drummer who, along with her elder brother Richard, was part of the duo The Carpenters. She was praised for her 3-octave contralto vocal range. Her drumming abilities were viewed positively by other musicians and critics. Her struggles with eating disorders would later raise awareness of anorexia and body dysmorphia.
When we were in the fourth grade my friend really wanted to learn the drums. This was 1987 and she was told that the drums were for the boys and that she should pick another instrument. She got the tenor sax.
She always made it sound so effortless...Like butter...She has one of those voices where you just have to stop what you're doing, and listen...Angelic...And you're right. Anyone one with 2 ears...
actually lennon said " i just wanted to tell you luv, i think you have a fabulous voice".. mccartney said she had the greatest female voice in the world and barbra streisand said she has a "marvelous instrument"... justin haywood of the moody blues also said she was the greatest female voice of her time in the world, she is shania twain's favorite female singer and many many more singers male and female have sung her praise during and since her lifetime..
Chills & goosebumps from the very first lyrics she sings ! In my opinion The Greatest purest beautiful female singing voice 🎤🥰🙏🏽💓 Ever. Rest In Peace Angel 👼🏼
in her death she brought Anorexia to the forefront. Until then no one paid attention to it. Alot of people are alive because of her sorrow. RIP Karen. When the Angels sing you can always hear Karen
Mariah Carey ain’t got shit on her- no disrespect but Karen Carpenter owned that era,if anything she owned all the eras even after she was gone.To this day her voice is TIMELESS,like I always say JUST CLOSE YOUR EYES AND LET HER VOICE DO THE REST- AMAZING 🙏🏼🔥🔥🔥
Karen may or may not have had a whistle, but in all honesty WHO CARES??!! Her tone was stunning and beautiful and would have been spoilt with a screech!! With all the amazing talent that has sadly been taken from us, they must be having the most amazing concerts up there!!! God bless them!!
Her mom didn't give her the attention, that she gave Richard. One time when Karen was in rehab, the therapist called her family in, and asked them to tell Karen that they love her. Her mother could not say it. Yeah, that screws with your mind. So sad.
Dont put out HEARSAY, AS A FACT. If you didn't get this from Karen, were an immediate family member, lived with them, then its hearsay, and may, or may not be true. If her mother was so awful. Why, at 33, with all the money Karen had, was she still at her mother's home the day she died? If her mother was that bad, surely, they would have been estranged.
If you dig really deep, there are some accounts of family friends who reveal the source or Karen's pain... they say her mother was extremely controlling, non affectionate and favored her brother over her. Karen sacrificed her childhood and life to help Richard succeed at his career just as their mother would have it... and I think she always felt it was HIS career... as crazy as that sounds. In truth she didn't want to be the front man, didn't believe she was that good and was happier playing the drums... but even that was taken from her. They say this type of disorder is an attempted to control something when a person feels out of control. It seems Karen had very little control over anything in her life besides her eating disorder. So very sad. RIP Karen, we love and miss you always. 🙏♥️
It absolutely chokes me up when I hear the Carpenters music,She was a beautiful young woman with the voice of an angel. Her last few concerts, she had to wear long sleeved tops to cover her arms because they were so thin,I have seen photos of her back and stomach area and seen the bones of her body showing under her skin,it was terrible to see her just fading away.It just brings tears to my eyes even just thinking about it.Apart from the amazing voice she also was an excellent drummer. Is being missed by millions of fans..R.I.P Karen Carpenter.
It's truly sad that deep down inside her she had such a low opinion of herself. She is still adored by her fans to this day. Dead at 32, one can only imagine the catalog of songs she could've compiled with that beautiful voice if only...
Omg! KAREN CARPENTER : Goosebumps & chills from the first few notes from Karen’s voice : “SILKY VELVETY SILK !” The purest most beautiful female singing voice 🎤 ever ❤️💘💘💖💝💕🥰
Thanks for giving this one a listen. We all enjoyed hearing it again. Karen had a wonderful, lower register. Richard called it her money voice. The song hit U.S. #2 and was blocked from reaching #1 by Carole King's "It's Too Late/ I Feel The Earth Move". Videos like this keep her memory alive. :)
Unfortunately, Richard was so caught up in his addictions that he could barely take care of himself toward the late ‘70s. I feel had he been clean and sober he may have been better able to help his sister. Drugs have a way to change a persons priorities once you become addicted.
They were both dysfunctional people so I can't real blame him for not being there for his sister. Also realize they still had their parents and it makes you wonder why they didn't intervene but it's not like eating disorders were well known back then either.
@@drieuxkoeppel8152 Wow! you lived with them?? !! Because if you didn't, and weren't a close personal friend of their's, you have no way of knowing wether that RUMOR, is true ir not. Now you just posted that, and other people will read it, belive it as gospel. And they will spread this, and so on. Yet. It might, or MIGHT NOT...be true at all.
She's great at painting a picture and its filled with so much emotion, warm emotion at that, its pure melancholy mixed with nostalgia. Thank you Karen for taking me back to my 70's childhood, happy times.
There seemed to be a theme of sadness running through most of her songs, just couldn't believe that so many people truly loved her..she was truly a beautiful young woman,an incredible singer and an amazing drummer.
She started havi g trouble in the early mid 70s. She went down to 78 pounds at 5' 3 . She got married in the 1975 the family saw how sick she was. Married in 1980....14 months later split. Spent a year in NY getting treated for anorexia. Went back k to CA in November 1982. Died Feb 4, 1983
You have to consider that Karen Carpenter was a contralto and according to Wikipedia "Regarding her voice type, Carey said that she is an alto, though several critics have described her as a soprano."
Good take I have some theories on the downfall of KAREN CARPENTER it would probably be flagged by RU-vid so I can't go into them. Previous era of RU-vid channels there was some discussion about the family secret she was the object of. It was related to her voice also and the body image conflict she had her whole life.
It's funny that you mentioned Mariah because by dads favorite artist was Karen(He passed 2 years ago) and he always sad that Mariah could have been "Karen's daughter". LOL.. Both with beautiful and unique voices.
