Showed up at the perfect time. Dino’s just broke out in my tank about a week ago. I’ve been dosing bacteria mainly, guess it’s time to try iron and moving my temp up. I’ll update my comment if it works.

I’ve been dealing with Dino’s for almost three years now. It all kicked off after using chemi-clean. I’ve tried everything under the Sun (including UV) to balance my tank back out. I will be interested to hear your results.

Jake 😔 I have a new tank (8 months) and started seeing a dino outbreak a couple months ago. I raised the temp to 81-82 and turned off the lights. They’re mostly gone now. It took maybe 2-3 weeks.

Same, I just recently beat dinos in about a month and did just a little of everything. i raised the temp to 83, turned out the lights for three days, ran UV, and was dosing microbacter7.

Will these methods work against the pinkish red algae my temp. Is 78 and the tank has been running a little over a year can’t get rid of it clean it all up do a water change and the very next day it’s back I also have my lights turned way down have no corals yet.

Iron at 1 ppb (or 1 ug/L) wouldn’t be abnormally low. That is in the acceptable range for Iron. Most people say that Iron will fuel Dino’s. Even the big Dino Facebook groups. Here’s what I’ve observed and, I can only speak to Ostreopsis Dino’s. Initially it did seem like Iron may be fueling them, but the last time that I fought Dino’s I was dosing 9x the amount of Iron than that of the first battle. I noticed no difference either way. It did not seem to fuel them nor did it seem to suppress them. This was consistent dosing for at least 3 months. So now I guess you could say I’m not convinced either way. I think one of the most beneficial things you can do for any Dino species is to stop all the organics going into the system. Amino’s, Vitamins, etc…are all like putting gasoline on a burning fire.

Thanks for that tip. I’ve spoken with a very well seasoned local Reefer, and one of Keith’s guest, and they offered me the same advice with stopping all the excess nutrient/organics. It’s been 6 months that I stopped all the excess additives including all frozen food and the Dino’s have cleared off all my rock work, but still growing on the glass. This is the most progress I’ve been able to achieve in the last 3 years.

@@Messier87_M87 That’s great man. It’s a difficult process to get rid of them. Even species like Ostreopsis will not all enter the water column. I’ve literally seen them living happily on the UV pump inlet if that tells you anything. IMO, removing their fuel and building up the Biome is the best way to outcompete them. They’re always in the system, but when they’re outcompeted, they don’t have the same intensity. I still see them in my system from time to time, but they are only able to get in the crack between the glass and my starboard bottom or sometimes on a frag rack because there’s no competition in those areas. Everywhere else the biome is too strong. However, if I started dosing large amounts of amino’s, vitamins, coral foods, etc…I’m sure they would come back easily.
