They take it better than most adults because this is what they know. They know from the animals birth what it's purpose is and they will play around while we are processing animals and some of them take interest and want to help but most of the time they just want to play around with their friends! They see where their food comes from and the notion is not foreign to them.

With the current way that our world is slowly devolving and our food resources become unreliable, relearning lost skills such as this are a must. I'm getting ready to do my first two dispatches this Friday. I know I'll cry like a baby the first few times because I really enjoy raising all of my animals, even the ones I try to stay emotionally distant from for this reason. Thank you for your video. It is so helpful and reassuring. I've been struggling choosing a dispatch method and this video helped me really zero in. Its the hard part of wanting to raise your own meat, but when I think of the terrible conditions the animals whose meat we get from the average grocery store live in, I know this is worth it. Happy, well cared for, and healthy animals will provide what is needed for happy healthier people.

I was raised eating what we grew in gardens and livestock. One thing I advised my children who are now in their 30's was to not name the rabbits. Needless to say they learned the hard way when it came time for Snickers, Cupcake etc to be butchered. I could tell from the looks on their faces 😮

It’s a life, even if it’s purpose in life is to be food. I think having these emotions means you’re a better owner in the long run; you care enough to give them the best death possible. Vegans might say you’re cruel and a psychopath for killing your livestock, but they have no clue how much you really care. Hope you’re doing well.

Another easy method I've used before and is portable as well (so you can do it without having to move a bunch or rabbits or if your rabbits are in several different spots) is to use a 550 cord, or any small rope, tie two "stirrups" at either end and one slipnot in the middle. Put your feet in the stirrups, bunnys head in the slipnot, and then just stand while holding the rabbits back feet. Its the same method basically, just different materials

I've never seen or even heard of a Hopper Popper! I'm very impressed!! It looks far more humane than the 'club' method!
@SageandStoneHomestead
@SageandStoneHomestead Год назад
I totally agree. We have never attempted the club method because I just don't think I would be consistently accurate.

@@SageandStoneHomestead sadly: VERY SADLY....I'm not & often wind up with bruising on the shoulders. That's unnecessary trauma!!! 😟
@SageandStoneHomestead
@SageandStoneHomestead Год назад
I thought that might happen! How sad. We tried quite a few methods just to see what we thought and the 22 or high powered pellet gun and hopper popper are our favorites!

We have talked about getting rabbits to feed our dogs. I have always wondered how you process them. Thank you for showing. This is very hard but so necessary.

I figure the dog might process them for you, the natural way, but it won't be quite as humane.

I love almost every animal I ever raised. I always made sure they never saw it coming and it was a quick and painless as possible. Just because a person doesn't see the cow die that their McDonald's burger came from die, doesn't mean they were giving the same mercy. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing the video it was very educational I think it's important for people to learn how to do things for themselves especially now we need to start learning how to be more self-sufficient there's a reason we came to America and I think we forgot about that

Being humane and giving thanks to the lord for all that he provides, is a righteous way of living. Kudos on an excellent video! There’s a story behind every product you purchase in the modern supermarket.

Honestly hard to watch but so important! I really want to get into homesteading but I truly don’t know if I can do the dispatching part. I really appreciate your frank and respectful education. I definitely will have laying hens and do gardening but I would have to really think if I could do any butchering. Thanks again
@SageandStoneHomestead

You could always take the rabbits to a processor!♡

Butchering, to me, is much easier than the killing. Maybe you could get someone else to dispatch and skin them then you finish up with the actual butchering.

I do appreciate you demonstrating. It’s never easy. I cry every time and give thanks. I pop the head off my quail and it’s never fun. However, we raise them for meat and God said, take dominion and subdue the earth. Good job. Thanks.

Watching to learn the most humane methods of dispatch for survival situations.This is one I agree with since the brain (head) is basically instantly separated from all nerves and other organs, shutting down pain receptors throughout the body so the animal can't feel pain (at the very least.) And yes, these things are a test of how compassionate you are in these situations from God.

Okay that dispatch video was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I think it's definitely something I can do. I think it just takes practice just like anything else. Thank you heather for this video and showing us how to properly dispatch a rabbit you mainly and quickly. Now my question is that rabbit popper is it something that I could buy online or is it something that I have to make?
