I love these videos, great job. No one really tells you about building rally cars. it's just like it needs a cage to the specs and it needs this and that, but this is really in depth. I like it
Regarding seam welding - is it typical to do this before or after the cage? I am currently in the process of having an FIA cage installed into an '06 Subaru and was planning to do seam welding after to have the cage help in resisting any heat distortion. Does the order matter? Is the Fiesta being a newer, more rigid chassis a factor? I've asked the cage builder to hit any seams I won't be able to access with the cage in place (the A-pillar bar to front strut extensions, primarily) but was planning to do the seams myself after the cage is in, additional brackets/weld-nuts, then complete the prep/prime/paint.
Check out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bj7EjaSNDfw.html but you're on the right track, probably just do anything you won't be able to reach before/during the cage install, then finish up after.
You can shoot us an email at info@teamoneil.com and we'll get right back to you. We get the kits imported from England so have to work with the current exchange rate and shipping etc.
Yes, IF they are the 2 door based, R1/R2 (and of course, even the R5) versions, they brought them into the states as 'body in white' unibodies. HOW they can ever get them registered/insured here as street legal cars, which they must be in order to compete in stage rallying (because of the open public road transits between stages), is a mystery to me???
Rally cars are all built from standard unibody cars with VIN numbers, as they all have to be street legal with license plates in order to compete. This one competes here in the US, Canada, and has been to the World Championships in Mexico as well. We've been building them for over two decades now.
