After listening to a Stellantis engineer talk about this engine, I'd stay clear. He said no break in necessary because of the hardcoat over the aluminum cylinders (sounds like the Chevy Vega) and stuck with the no dipstick, 10,000 mile oil change with the oil monitor. I won't fall for any of that nonsense. Been there, done that. He held the company line. This is a recall waiting to happen.
Stellantis made a big mistake to just completely drop the tried and proven hemi to bring in an all new, unproven engine and expect there not to be issues. Should have kept the v8 and made the straight six an option, until some real world miles and data to work out the kinks.
You know me ... About towing or hauling. 3:90 gears. Been spinning them since 97. They town and haul much better that the 3:55. I dropped nearly a half second in the 1/4. But the tq of a v8 is king . Too bad they stopped making Reg. Cabs. The HO version would be fun. But I'll have to stick with my 25 year old Dakota RT. And factory 3:92s... Great post their guy. @@bmasontv Yeah that’s bad there.. The hurricane is gonna need that about time the charger come out in order to compete with the rest which are platforms that is already ahead of tuning & modification capabilities i.e. the coyote’s B/S58 VR30 LS/LT the predecessor hemi’s etc
@@shanegautier1976 man, if I'm being totally honest with you I could have been a lot more harsh in that video than I was. As freaking impressed as I was with the high output version of that engine, the standard output is equally as disappointing.

Dodge/Stellantis fail to tell people that, these new TT Hurricane 6CYI engines are having major quality control issues with them and are blowing up !! And problems from Headgaskets, Camshafts, Oil pump problems, Cylinders cracking, and the Crankshaft Snapping in half !! And regardless a 6CYI will never take the place of a N/A good V8 engine !!!
I understand your point about lag, but take a look at Ford's EcoBoost series. The 2.7 l, a smaller displacement engine than the 3 l hurricane, comes into boost more quickly in my experience of driving it. The 35 seems like it is always producing the torque that's advertised of it, almost to a fault. It's one of the reasons why I chose the 5 L over the 3.5 L ecoboost, the ram HP 75 has more aggressive first and second gear gearing than the 10 or 80 does. And more aggressive than the outgoing HP 70 found in the Ram classic and Challenger / charger cars. I have no doubt that the hurricane would motor past the Hemi at some point in a drag race. I made that clear in the video but I just don't know that the way that the hurricane is tuned is right for a truck Ford seems to have that figured out pretty well and I think stellantis could do well to emulate that. I'm still partially of the mindset that something wasn't quite right maybe with the truck that I drove. A bad tank of gas? Was it 87 octane? Whatever the case it did not perform anything like the hoe in the heavier by 1000 lb Wagoneer that I drove. What I didn't mention in the video, but will be a part of my follow-up video to this is the fact that I went to the dealership to buy the truck, the Ford would have been traded in because I would be using the hurricane as a test mule for tuning.
What you experienced is LAAAGGG. And knowing how lazy they tune their throttles, it probably felt lethargic. Pedal commander + spool those turbos up and see whos faster. Tip in isnt going to be like a v8 cause youre only dealing with 3 liters of displacement. I still would take this over the boat anchor HEMI though. Theyre definitely gonna have to do some transmission tunning for a quicker tip in. Maybe a lower 1st and 2nd gear. Stellantis said no more spending money on emissions credits. This is the result of that. The person running the xompany is French. And over in Europe they're dead set on electric vehicles plus the green party over there is much stronger than here.
Wow, I was definitely expecting it to be a little more lively. Especially being an inline over a v configuration. Who knows what the aftermarket could possibly do. I think maybe full of torque management or just a big fat lie lol.
I agree! the one i drove had 3.55 plenty power on tap no lag..felt more responsive then my 5.7 hemi challenger ride was smooth and quiet that's probably the only down side to the truck it's very quiet compared to v8 hemi...the truck was very responsive with power especially in sport mode...it didn't seem confused or hunting more power like the goofy looking clown in the video says...and if it is slower the the 5.0 ford ...who cares!..the RAM is 800lbs more then f150
@@jamesallen7205 well, the goofy-looking clown in the video was actually looking to buy the truck, that's the problem. Was this one a dud? Because the Grand Wagoneer that I drove with the high output variety of this engine was extremely responsive and impressive. Do you think that maybe this truck had bad gas in it? Maybe it had 87 octane and this engine simply will not make good power on regular gas. My Ram 1500 that I literally Drive every single day feels more responsive and peppier than this hurricane 6 did. Please help me to understand that. Make it make sense.
@@bmasontv I`ve seen lots of reviews of this s.o hurricane engine in the Ram and the general concencus is (for now) pretty damn good. impressive performance considering its the lower tune out of the two lumps. Everyone (reviews) seem to be taken aback by its response. Their main gripe of course is no more V8 sound. Just my view.
its slower then a stock coyote of unknown generation. Now go stick a pair of speedy snails on the coyote and see how that works out. Seeing as you comparing NA vs turbo.
4th gen 2023. As far as putting turbos on my truck, if I were to go boost with it, use the Roush supercharger and retain my factory warranty and have 700 horsepower.
