I have 2014 6.4 L in a ram 3500 190K miles put new cam and lifters on a passenger side 10K miles ago last week engine had 12psi oil pressure and a slight lifter knock mechanic put a new oil pump with 12% more volume or pressure the added new lifter assembly on passenger side engine still has same issue only 12 psi oil pressure mechanic said after putting engine back together and started engine it ran well the lost oil pressure again back to square one then they started trouble shooting blowing air were ever they could my opinion was to drop oil pan inspect oil lift tube and lift tube connection to oil pump or there must be a blockage from oil pump to where ever the oil pump sends oil to lifter assembly imstumped about were oil goes when it leaves the oil pump any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello, I can try and give a few items to look at. There are many items that can cause a loss of oil pressure. If the pump was replaced with a high volume and the issue persists, then if could be a bad pickup tube to pump seal, blockage, or failing bearings in low end or cam. If I may ask why was the cam and passenger lifers replaced? If it was due to lifter failure this issue with the 6.4 is that on the gas engine there is an internal oil cooler and oil passages that can get clogged up with metal and these areas can not be cleaned out. Was just the passenger lifters replaced? You can try dropping the lower pan and looking for metal in the pan, oil, and or filter. Also look at the lower bearings for wear. Cam bearings inspection would be a bit harder as the cam would need to come out. To be honest since it has had some of the top end rebuilt already and you have 190K miles on it, it might be better to get a some type of replacement or crate rebuild.

What about just replacing the lifters at 100,000 miles? Would that be ok. Or would I need to replace the camshafts too?

If it were me and I had the top end torn down enough to get to the lifters, I would also do the cam as well. Especially if the lifters are damaged. Is there a reason that you are only looking at lifter replacements?

Hey bud, thanks for the very detailed videos. Did you have a problem with oil pressure after this? I am getting 8-14psi idle and 20-25psi at 3000rpm. Before it was 32 idle and 50 at 2500rpm? I didnt touch the oil pump, same type oil, checked with pressure gauge.

Currently with the hellcat oil pump on the 6.4L we are seeing 75Psi on cold startup and around 50ish at idle after warm up. We are going to do some extended runs in a bit and see what is looks like. Did you remove and replace the oil pickup tube by chance, what all got changed?

@@solargarage i just changed the cam/lifters/mds delete/phaser limiter. didnt touch the oil pump/pickup or timing components.

@@digitalme4404 Sound like a plan, on the pickup tube be sure to use a new o-ring and double check that it seats and does not roll out when inserting back into the pump.

How long did it take mine is in the shop for lifters and the guy told me 7 days

Depends on there work load and parts availability. Seven days is not bad, considering they have to remove the heads to gain access to the lifters and then all the clean up needed for the reassembly. With work from the primary job taking most of my time and with filming the process, as well as the upgrade work needed on the heads, it took me a few weeks.

Hey man I did a cam in my 6.4 it now has a open circuit on injector 7 and won’t run right gas smell out exhaust can u help me?

Hello, What type of vehicle is your 6.4 in? Is this a truck or car application? Have you tried swapping the number 7 injector with a know good one to see if the open circuit fault moves?

@@solargarage it has a constant 12v to #7 injector and number 5 is randomly turning on

@@Sonny1989 Is this for a truck application or a car? Are you using a test light or a voltmeter? The injectors are negative side switched on a Chrysler product directly by the PCM. They should random turn on if you are testing with a test light from battery positive to the negative side of the injector as you crank the engine. Are you testing in this method?

@@solargarage yes I receive a open circuit on the number 7 cyl and multiple misfire. I tested with a noid light and a voltage meter. Too. I tested the truck running and tested the wire straight off the pcm with had 12v the other end is has the pig tail cut off right now! Because when it was on I had ton of white smoke and it would go through a gal gas in 1-2min. It’s like the injector never shuts off I switch it with another injector and it does the same thing on the same number 7. I replaced the cam sensor the crank sensor o2 sensor and about 3k $ other stuff

@@solargarage the truck will run but not on number 5 or 7 cyl that’s the back drivers side injector then second one back from front drivers side bank one. I’m getting a bunch of other cods to like the throttle position sensor ext
